Admiral Ron Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 What happened to bow and arrows? I noticed in the Kingdoms line, there are only crossbows, I am fundamentalist, and I think bows are better. Anyone else agree? Quote
Corvus Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 I'm no history expert, but it seems to me that bows fazed out to the crossbow, which was deadly yet required little skill to operate. Thus, it was a great tool for armies. Of course, the arrow was more accurate, etc., etc., but that's not what you're asking. I'm rambling. I think the answer may just be aesthetics- I've always thought the lego bow with its permanent arrow was a little silly looking. Maybe TLC did too. Quote
Paradosis Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 The bow silly looking? This being said is outrage! Though now that you mention it... Quote
Shroffy123 Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 I miss the bow as well. I think the cross bow with the bundle of arrows looks ridiculous. So now I'll have a lot of arrows, but no bows. I hope they include the bow in the next wave Quote
squiz Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 yeah i'd prefer a few bows in the new sets as well. They are still producing them as the robin hood minifig comes with one! Quote
General Redwater Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 I don`t know why there are practically none in the sets anymore, but I do really prefer a bow to a crossbow. I hope they put them in more sets soon though. - General Redwater Quote
DLangRI Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 I never liked the original bow as a kid. The design felt awkward and the archers never looked right with the way minifigs are articulated. I would've prefered the bow by itself without the string and arrow. Quote
Milan Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 The bow rules! I like them very much, though they really looks somehow strange in the bowman arm, but it didn't bother me when I was younger! Quote

Actually, during the Hundred Years War, English Longbows proved superior to French Crossbows. Quote
squiz Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 Actually, during the Hundred Years War, English Longbows proved superior to French Crossbows. Yeah but the point he is making is that the crossbow is far easier to use. A longbow would take a lifetimes worth of practice to master as the draw strength was ridiculously high (maybe up to 200 lbs). The training required to be able to draw that kind of force, then fire accurately and repeatedly was long and tough. The crossbow on the otherhand could be mastered after a weeks training. Quote
BearHeart Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 I don't mind the crossbows. I feel they fit better with the current factions. I see bows as more of a forestman/bandit weapon. Quote
Shroffy123 Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 I don't dislike the crossbow, I just prefer the bow. For example, my crownies have crossbow troops, but I don't equip the bundle of arrows with them. Those two just don't go together in my opinion. If the Kingdoms line lacks bows, I may just have to buy a bunch of those robin hood mini-figures ... turn the extra robin hoods' into bards ... speaking of which, does anyone know how to construct those cool looking LUTES I see in many MOCs?? Thanks! Quote
Legorski Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 I don't mind the crossbows. I feel they fit better with the current factions.I see bows as more of a forestman/bandit weapon. Agreed, though I wouldn't mind one here and there, I have too many crossbows and too little bows, Quote
Emperor Claudius Rome Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 I've actually been planning to Convert any Forestmen Collectibles I get into a special Lion Regiment. Quote
KimT Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 There's a few customizers that do really great bows. I personally bought quite a few to replace those "Men in tights"-looking bows that TLG produced This is the one: Quote
Sir Fred Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 Maybe TLG is updating the bow mould and just taking their sweet old time with getting it out? Since as much as I want more longbows, given that I only have three, the handle does wear down really easily. Quote
not-in-use-anymore Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 Maybe TLG is updating the bow mould and just taking their sweet old time with getting it out? The Native American fig has a new one, so either they're trying to get more people to buy the Minifig bags or they just enjoy watching us get Robot Minifig(if you don't use the barcodes). Quote
metalandi Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 A new one? It looks the same as the old bows to me. Is there any difference? Quote
Sirens-of-Titan Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 A new one? It looks the same as the old bows to me. Is there any difference? Agreed, there doesn't seem to be any difference between them Quote
not-in-use-anymore Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 A new one? It looks the same as the old bows to me. Is there any difference? I think the handle is longer, and the bow feathers are flat with lines put in, instead of the round bumps. Quote
Admiral Ron Posted May 26, 2010 Author Posted May 26, 2010 Interesting, I had no idea the bows were different! Quote
Stiel Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 I saw a picture recently which shows that the minifig series' bow is a little smaller than regular ones. The quiver too. Alas, I can't find the link anymore. I will take a pic myself once I get my hands on that forestman. In any case, the differences are small, I think you could consider it the same item. Quote

I have both the Native and the Foresmen figure and its looks to me like its the same size bow and quiver as it always was. Quote

The design felt awkward and the archers never looked right with the way minifigs are articulated. I would've prefered the bow by itself without the string and arrow. I always felt the same way about the bow. I prefer the Brick Forge longbow design. Quote
legotrainfan Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Yeah but the point he is making is that the crossbow is far easier to use. I thought it was easier to use a bow. A crossbow was heavier than a bow. Archers also needed more time to reload a crossbow. Quote
