Does anyone know in which set the 6005 Arch Brick in Yellow came in? BrickLink or Peeron doesn't provide any info. Lego Customer Support says the brick was in the set "7012" released in 2001 and the brick itself was stopped being produced in 2006. Lego couldn't find a name for the set, but could see that other parts included were a diver, sea-weed and some sort of shark.

So my question: what set is/was 7012, and was the part 6005 ever released in yellow in that set? If not, was the brick released in any other set?

Since it isn't in the bricklink list I guess not. There is only one guy on bricklink that has a whole lot of them, maybe you could ask him (although he got it probably directly from a factory or so).

The only sets known to be released in 2001 in the 70xx series were Dinosaurs sets, but that can't be it. Around the same time many Alpha Team - Mission Deep Sea sets were released (eg 1426, 4789), so yours might be an obscure promotional from that time. A yellow arch piece is quite fitting for a submarine set, I guess.

I guess without more information I'm suspicious of your communication with LEGO. Was this over the phone? Email? Were pictures provided to or from LEGO? From the sounds of it, my off-handed guess is that they may have thought you meant something like this:

Or some other wacky element. Describing pieces is pretty tricky, numbers are easily transposable and typoable, not to mention bizarre confusion between LEGO "Design ID"s and "Part Number"s, and confusion between the (seemingly) 3 different types of set numberings that LEGO has (usually when it comes to promo items). Heck, it could even have been a set that LEGO canceled and never wound up producing.

It seems suspicious to me that a part would be in a set from 2001, and yet continue to be "in production" until 2006 if it were never used in another set from 2002-2006. Further, between BrickLink, BrickSet, Peeron, and LUGNET, it seems unlikely that a set would slip between the cracks for so long. Sets from the past couple years occasionally surface, but generally somebody turns one up and adds it to BrickLink.

Personally, from where I stand, I doubt the credibility of what LEGO told you. I expect they either misunderstood, made a mistake, or their database is technically correct, but not accurate with reality (IE, an unreleased set, or a set made exclusively at LEGOLAND (which isn't typically even in LEGO's databases), or some other bizarrity).

Well, I called them and it's what the customer rep told me. I had him repeat the set number several times, and even he was a bit bewildered. And it was definetely the 6005 arch brick we're talking about, no missunderstanding. My long-shot with this post was that someone here at the forum would go "oh yeah...I rembember back in...."

I looked in my "LEGO Collector's Guide" book that I bought at LegoLand USA, and there is no Set 7012 listed at all. :sceptic:

I sent a message to the owner of the single Bricklink store that carries the yellow 6005 bricks (Brickwear.com in New Jersey USA). I asked him where he obtained so many (over 200); perhaps he can shed light on the mystery. If he replies, I'll forward his answer here in this forum....

I got this answer from John Neal, who operates the Bricklink store with the yellow 6005 bricks. He wrote, "Hello- All that I can say is that I bought them all off of a guy some years ago. I do not actually know from where he got them. Hope that helps."

SO, the mystery continues....
