Posted May 26, 201014 yr Built specifically for the Spring Contest held by our friends over at Brickenburg, this is our new modular ensemble. It's inspired by the narrow streets of old European cities surrounded by colonnades, little shops and interesting sights. The tan building is loosely based on the architectural style that can be seen along Berlin's Friedrichstrasse, and I guess the dark blue corner structure comes as a natural progression of our Flower Shop. Although pretty much the only thing we've kept there are the clam motives and the arches - and I guess it's obvious that this is not going to be a Flower Shop anymore. Even though both buildings were built for and successfully entered in the contest, being the fiddly otters that we are, we've now decided to do some more modifying. The tan building needs some very minor finishing touches here and there, and the corner structure might require a few more tweaks before I'm 100% satisfied with it. As to the VW van - it will have its own time to shine, once I find MY own time to take a few good pics of it and its older brother (4-wide ftw! ;) )
May 26, 201014 yr Extremely beautiful work Bobby! The two buildings look great next to each other and together they form a lovely street scene! The small details look fantastic (I love the tiles surrounding the windows) and the colour choice is really eye capturing. Not only each building looks beautiful with its colour scheme (tan and brown... ) but they also match being together. The motorcycle is --of course-- the cherry on the cake! Great work! P.S You won the first place! Congratulations to both of you! Enjoy the moment!
May 26, 201014 yr I it. It looks so realistic and the blue is beautiful. The small extra's are good as well- Motorbike and Camper Van
May 26, 201014 yr Impressive job, really! Full of nice details like all the arcades sections and the terraces BRAVO!
May 26, 201014 yr Very nice buildings. I like the colors you chose very much. The roof on the Blue building is very interesting and there are great details throughout both the buildings. Good luck with it in your contest.
May 27, 201014 yr Author Thank you for your kind words guys. It's been a long time since our last more "serious" project, so this one was most enjoyable - despite the fact that there wasn't too much time to build it. As I've said, I'll update it sometime next month and post the finished version. Hopefully, a third modular will follow soon to round off the street. Impressive job, really! Full of nice details like all the arcades sections and the terraces BRAVO! Thanks matey, you know how much that means coming from you. The arcades were actually the foundation which this whole project was based on, since I really wanted to have such a scenery in our town. I knew that the upper floors would turn out big this way, but I didn't expect them to consume THAT much bricks. Which is precisely why I'm currently trying to come up with some nice patio designs to make up for all of that space (and save me some building materials :P). (I love the tiles surrounding the windows) and the colour choice is really eye capturing. Not only each building looks beautiful with its colour scheme (tan and brown... ) but they also match being together. Thanks ever so much Mario! A lot of thought went into picking out the appropriate colours, so it's great to know you like them as well! P.SYou won the first place! Congratulations to both of you! Enjoy the moment! You can imagine how ecstatic I am... not to mention the otter alongside me! :D The roof on the Blue building is very interesting and there are great details throughout both the buildings. I'm glad you like it mate, the dome was inspired by one of lgorlando's many brilliant buildings.
May 28, 201014 yr Simply a BEAUTIFUL MOC - great modular buildings 'MetroiD' ! The van and bike are just the icing on this cake ! I'm a conformist! !
May 28, 201014 yr Some really nice buildings Bobby. I like that you've used the sidewalk for a passage. I just don't like the old and new grays mixed, but that's a matter of preference I guess. The terraces on the tan building are a nice touch.
May 28, 201014 yr I like, very nice. One thing, the grey corner on the roof, the front is too flat, it stands out.
May 28, 201014 yr Simply wonderful!! I especially love the covered passageway and the little details like the shells and gear wheels on the walls... great work!!
May 28, 201014 yr The brown tiled arches are really lovely and so is the small terrace on top of that building! This is certainly good enough for a first place, great job and congratulations
May 29, 201014 yr Awesome! I haven't seen a covered sidewalk in a modular before, so this is wonderful! Great job
February 15, 201114 yr I love these buildings the archways over the sidewalk is a really nice touch Happy Bricking Barberini
