AJW Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 My first attempt at building a Lego London Underground station in minifig scale. Inspired by stations designed by Leslie Green and opened on the Bakerloo, Piccadilly and Northern lines around 1906 - 1907. This is the way the station would have looked in 1910, when the 'UndergrounD' signage began appearing on stations. Entrance and ticket window: Lift attendant: Exit: More photos in the Flickr set. greg3 Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 Superb!! It really looks the part, simple but instantly recognisable with with the arched windows and the rolled up shutters. The ticket office looks spot on and the newspaper seller just adds that final touch. Excellent stuff.... Quote
BlueBard Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 Fantastic job, really! Clean design and nice colour scheme Quote
RoryoCox Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 Lovely train station. It looks really realistic Quote
the Inventor Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 It is indeed a nice train station, it looks great. And that newspaper seller fits in well to the scene, maybe you should add some commuters. the Inventor Quote
Ralph_S Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 Very nice. I've thought about adding an underground station to my Brickston Borough project, but never got around to it. I wouldn't mind having this one. Cheers, Ralph Quote
Fugazi Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 Very nice! I love the colours, and the clean lines. What do you have in mind for the second floor? Oh, and how did you end up dealing with the cheese-slope-above-arches fitting problem? Glue? Great work! Quote
Lord Arjay Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 Ooh really nice. The design of it is very good and the colours on the inside give it an extra spark. Anyway Well Done! Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 AWESOME just AWESOME ! Excellent designing - building - tiling too 'AJW' even a ticket window - oh, so COOL ! 'The Brickster' will want to see this ! I'm a conformist! 'AJW' I'm a conformist! ! Quote
Commodore Hornbricker Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 A beauiful MOC. I love the scale and detail. Quote
Sandy Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 A lovely station - all it needs now is a platform for the train. I couldn't help but to chuckle at the minifigs that all had the same mustache - must be the latest trend, I reckon. Quote
Whittleberry Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 Very nice! Having seen plenty of photos of Leslie Green's stations, and having seen some in real life, I can say that the building is instantly recognisable. It's a shame LEGO hasn't produced those arches in Dark Red - using dark red rather than red-brown would have made it look spot-on. Quote
Ras 74 Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 A very great UndergrounD station! Looks really great. Would love to see some more in this same style of yours. Quote
Pyramid Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 I'd be afraid to ride the train if "Doc Ock is still at large". We know he's attacked NYC subway cars before. Quote
AJW Posted May 31, 2010 Author Posted May 31, 2010 Thank you for the kind words guys. @Greg3 - I am particularly pleased with the ticket office window. When I began the build I thought I might have to do it with a sticker but I finally figured out a way to construct it using cheese slopes. @Ralph - I have seen your Brickston Borough project and it's fab! If you ever get around to displaying it (or something similar), I'd love to lend you my Underground station to slot in somewhere. Are you a member of the Brickish Association? @Fugazi - Yes I had to use glue in the end to secure the cheese slopes above the arches. I never did find a satisfactory way to attach them the official way. As for the upper storey, that would have originally been full of machinery for the lift. @Sandy - Yup, moustaches were all the rage in 1910. I've got a photo of my great-grandfather wearing a huge one! @Whittleberry - Dark red was also my first choice, but you a correct about the arches not available in that colour, how annoying! @Sieg7ri4d - I did this vintage Underground train a while back, you may spot some familiar faces: Quote
Milan Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 What I like the most is the color and the polished tilled floor, it really had the biggest impact on me! Well done! Quote
Trent Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 I know that it's not always appreciated when people bump topics, BUT I saw your signature on another post and realised that you were the guy I'd come across on Flickr. I am absolutely 100% holding you responsible for getting me into Lego trains. Your London Underground creations are my favourite MOCs - the attention to detail is fantastic, and I couldn't believe the curved wall in one of your other sets (and thank you for including the picture to show how you'd created the effect). I really enjoy your work and I can't wait to see more. Quote
wokajablocka Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 Nice station. I like the ticket window and the news paper seller. As mentioned it would be great to get some commuters and maybe varie the current minifig heads so the have some indeviduallity, apart from that good job. Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Very nice scene and beautiful architecture! Great work! Quote
