I think the debate of whether or not to credit others for building techniques will rage forever. But using someone else's photographs is a bit more blatant. Even then, as long as they are credited I don't have a big problem with it.

In this most recent case, the Brickshelf user was just displaying photographs. He wasn't claiming they were his own or making any claims whatsoever, so I didn't have a big issue. "Stolen" was probably too harsh a term. Other users which have actually used photos on their sites which are served from my site are taking my bandwidth (which I pay for) and that was a bigger problem. Different issue though.

I'm more than ready to let this thread die and I'm kind of sorry I even participated. I'm happy to share my photos and my work in general.

I'm happy to share my photos and my work in general.

I'm also OK for others users to use my photos, videos, and even to give complete building instructions for free (MOC UCS). :sweet:

But the minimum I demand is to put the credits. :sadnew:

Ok, i checked out "Technicopedia". Very nice website with lots of info. But i'm sorry, i couldn't find ANY disclaimer where it said "You are not permited to copy the images". Not that anyone reads them anyways.

If i take my wallet, camera and notebook and leave them somewhere in town, i pretty much doubt, they will be there the next day. It's the same with internet. Once you put something on, it's public. The only thing you can do is watermark your pictures (which is a simple batch process).

I know you put a lot of work into Technicopedia. So like Enilder already said, watermark the pictures and i guess u'll sleep better. (and this is not flaming, just advice, because i see reasonable replies in your posts)

Well, i can try contacting him and tell him to credit you guys in the descriptions. Will that calm everyone down?

You show that you have absolutely no idea about what ownership of an image means. You defend thieves.

Goodbye

Nice response after the guy that used the pictures already made a public apology yesterday and deleted them. :hmpf_bad:

You guys are worried about pictures of actual sets when people use other builder's designs on a daily basis and pass them off as their own without giving credit to the original designer. Some of you are browsing and posting on this very forum.

You can't be sued for using another guys building technic.

You can get sued for using other peoples photos.

It's as simple as that.

As the main reason for this topic's existence is now over, and the discussion on copyright of building techniques and photos has already been discussed at length (just make a search in the General Discussion forum and you'll find some threads on these), I'll now close this topic.

Please do not see this action as a mean to shut down free discussion. We like mature discussions on Eurobricks, but we already know this kind of arguments can go on forever and we have already seen them turn too personal :sceptic: .
