So we've seen that the new 7946 King's Castle uses walls different then those we were used to (check this thread out).

But do they go well together? has any of you tried mixing and matching the old walls with the new ones? How was it? Did you like? Or perhaps you didn't like it?

Thoughts on this? Pictures?

With the new castle window I see no reason to use those wall elements anymore.

Now everything in a castle can be brick-built

I was thinking the exact same. With these awesome new pieces now ALL is possible to be built, no compromises have to be made because of big pieces. It's one of the most useful new pieces from the past years imo.

I try not to use these wall pieces too often, but sometimes I don't have enough bricks to "brick-build" everything and the panels come in handy. I've had trouble with the odd width (5 studs) and little overhang of the older wall piece, which is why I'm excited about its replacement.

As far as mixing the two, I think it would look fine as long as the colour is the same. You can get a nice mottled look by tactfully mixing the old greys and newer bleys in small sections, but I think the overall look of your creation will suffer if such large pieces in different colours are not carefully (and sparingly) mixed.

The new window piece will be useful because it's centered, but did you really have to make many compromises before its existence? We have 1 x 3 arches, and where centering is necessary you can use 1 x 4 arches.
