prateek Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 That was a good game between Brazil and Ivory Coast. Shame on Keita for getting Kaka sent off! Quote
§edalia Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 Though it sucks that the Ivory Coast lost. I mean, with Gervinho, Solomon Kalou and Didier Drogba, they could have beat Brazil. But how 'bout them Oranje? Quote
Alex the Great Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 Portugal! 7-0 over North Korea, woke up early to watch it. Quote
Dunjohn Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 The Portugal game was fantastic. The first half was fairly even, great flow from both sides, but the second half was a masterclass from Portugal. They simply carved the Koreans up, their tactics were beautiful to watch. Unfortunately, I couldn't watch it all, and it was 4-0 when I had to go. They scored three more? Nice. With Ireland and all of my usual backup sides (Poland, Sweden, Scotland) not qualified, I've just been taking each match as it comes, but from here on I think I'll cheer the Portugeuse. Speaking of getting up early, the times this year are perfect for my time zone, matches at 12.00, 3.30 and 7.00. Similar to last time, in Germany. 2014's in Brazil, that'll be havoc for my sleep cycle. Quote
prateek Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 What's going on with the S. Americans? Chile is through to the group stage! It's a miracle! Paraguay looks good for the next round, and the other Latinos are through too Quote

Scouty Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 I woke up early to watch the Portugal game and am glad that I did so. After a disappointing tie in their first game, I was happy to see them do good this time. Força Portugal! Quote

Hell no. 2 of our group matches end at 6am! Painful. It sucks for us when there's sport happening in South Africa! Quote

Dunjohn Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Well, France are gone. I'm not one to hold a grudge but while I'm sure there are Irish people who are thrilled with that result, I will admit it's nice to have somebody to root against sometimes. Too bad South Africa had to exit with them. I like it when the host is a lesser football power but still makes it out of the groups. Quote
HumanPackMule Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 My family normally doesn't get into this type of stuff, but recently my fourteen year old sister has gotten addicted to the world cup and is yelling at the TV as I type this. I'm trying hard to hold in my laughter. Quote
bamaker Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 USA! USA! USA! Wow, I'm at a loss for words except to say great game by the Yanks. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Well done USA! You deserved it! I have to disagree. The US had so many chances; they made the same passing in the air mistake over and over and over.... And based on England's play before today, I'd day neither team deserves to advance. Just my opinion, please don't start and argument. Quote

I agree, England, we didn't really deserve it but hey, Where just to awesome. However USA didn't even deserve to be in the World Cup, No evidence to back it up, I just don't like them and no, Its not cause you scored against us, Which wasn't a goal, it was a mistake, Still you didn't deserve it! posades Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 I agree. If it was based on effort, I'd let Algeria and Slovenia advance Were you guys watching the same game, Algeria looked like they were playing for the tie. As far as effort goes, the US had a ton more shots, not sure where all this hate is coming from. If we're talking about what is deserved, how about the two goals that were disallowed? Quote
-zenn Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Can't wait till we (The Netherlands) play again. Quote

Algeria could afford to play for the tie; a tie would get them into the Round of 16. I only saw one disallowed goal, and that was offside. Quote
-JD- Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 The England match was great! I'm glad they're getting back on track! I stayed in at school to watch the whole game with my friends, having watched the first half in our 'French' lesson. Even the headmaster came in and watched with us all! Defoe FTW! Quote
bamaker Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 (edited) Algeria could afford to play for the tie; a tie would get them into the Round of 16. I only saw one disallowed goal, and that was offside. A tie would not have gotten them in to the Round of 16. And the other disallowed goal came against Slovenia with the phantom call that went against US and wiped out Edu's goal. Today's games were all good games. US and England are advancing and deservedly so, as they were the only two teams in the group to accomplish what mattered in order to advance. That being said, Algeria and Slovenia have nothing to be ashamed of; they showed they can hang with the big boys. Edited June 23, 2010 by bamaker Quote
