escortmad79 Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 England vs Germany on Sunday then C'mon England!!! Quote
Artanis I Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 A tie would not have gotten them in to the Round of 16. And the other disallowed goal came against Slovenia with the phantom call that went against US and wiped out Edu's goal. Today's games were all good games. US and England are advancing and deservedly so, as they were the only two teams in the group to accomplish what mattered in order to advance. That being said, Algeria and Slovenia have nothing to be ashamed of; they showed they can hang with the big boys. Poor Slovenia... the only way for them to miss the next round was if BOTH England & USA won. Any other result for either game (including draw) they were through. They totally lost the plot in their game, and then were unlucky to miss out by the USA extra time goal. Every so often I'd change the channel to see how Spearmint vs Peppermint was going. Still nil all? There goes USA with another poor attack, oh there goes Algeria with another poor attack... let's go back to the game with skill on display. (Wayne Rooney, that really should've gone in tsk tsk.)Then group D. Australia & Ghana win, both through. Australia & Germany win by a total of 5, both through. Serbia win, Serbia and winner of other game through. Australia & Germany win by total of <5, Germany & Ghana through. So why did $#%$# Germany have to win 1-0 over Ghana? Oh well, at least Australia got a good win. Pity their game plan was terrible in the first game, it cost badly. Oh and no rubbish red cards or penalties this time! Quote
Holodoc Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 I agree, England, we didn't really deserve it but hey,... So it will be the perfect match on Sunday with two teams who really didn't deserve it with their last match. The german match against Ghana was horrible to look at. A lot of mistakes in the german defense which luckily didn't lead to a goal for Ghana. Good to see almost no cards were given. (The german commentator said the referee was known as a card-player ) Özil nevertheless made a real nice goal! And that is what counts. Well, Australia did win at the same time, so Germany would have advanced without winning this particular match. Now on to England. What did Rooney say, btw.? We'll see about that. Quote
Special K Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Im so annoyed that the Socceroos are out (Im aussie of course) Quote
lightningtiger Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Yay, for a win at last for Australia........dam %$#&**&**& it wasn't enough - ah well next time . At least we made twice in a row. I say England is in with a chance, sorry to France. Keep on kicking goals......I'm a conformist! ! Quote

I mean, We've already one the 2 main important things of the last century so you can win this. Quote

Erdbeereis Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Well, the Germany game for sure wasn't pretty (although the goal was fantastic!), but at least we're through. It was fun, I watched the game at the airport yesterday, and when Germany scored my family and I cheered in the middle of the airport. That's one reason I love the world cup, no matter where people are, there are always groups of people watching together. People were asking us about the score, and a lot of others were watching TVs, even in the US where people aren't crazy about soccer. Quote
prateek Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 ORANJE!!! Arjen Robben shoulda scored that but at least Huntelaar did. Quote
def Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Japan beat Denmark 3-1? I genuinely couldn't believe it. Japan scored one goal in their first two games. The fever will carry on here. Quote
RileyC Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Im disappointed that New Zealand got another draw with Paraguay but I wasnt all surprised that we didnt win. At least we went through the cup undefeated! Quote
Joey Lock Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Bye France! Bye Italy! Anyone noticed how this World Cup is working out like World War II? The French were in disarray and surrendered early, The Americans made it eventually, And England is left to face the Germans! Poland were out before it all really began. Italy doesn't know if its coming or going And Sweden just stayed out of it. And the Japanese are expanding there Empire! Strange... Quote

Yesterday's Italy Slovakia game was very exciting. Every time I thought the game was over, Italy would score again. Japan's free kicks were amazing. Quote
prateek Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Just out of curiosity, how did you start cheering for the Netherlands? I actually have no idea. Maybe it was when I went to The Netherlands. Quote

Brickdoctor Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Did anyone here see the Brazil vs. Portugal game? Portugal was falling down on purpose, and the ref giving out yellow card left and right didn't help. Portugal's #15 (Pepe) got 3 Brazilians in trouble, two of which got yellow cards, before getting one himself. And the ref... Okay, he was kind of iffy. He gave a yellow card to a Portuguese who fell down on purpose. Then when a Portuguese defender tripped the attacker who then fell atop the ball, and the ref called a hand ball on Brazil! With no offense to Portuguese readers or Portuguese sausage, the tactics of the Portuguese squad, including keeping 10 players back to defend, were those of cowards. Quote

Maybe the Americans will eventually become a superpower too in football (soccer). Quote
Joey Lock Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 And at the end of the day the US becomes the predominant world power? Sounds good to me! No actually in the end, The USA will boast how they won single handedly with all goals purposely meant to be a goal, Ignoring a goalee mistake which was the main reason they stayed in. Just like they ignored the giant part Britain played in WWII. Quote

Zorbas Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Yesterday's Italy Slovakia game was very exciting. Every time I thought the game was over, Italy would score again. Couldn't agree more. The last 20 minutes were like riding a rollercoaster. Too bad Italy "woke up" at the last 20 minutes of the third game. I can't wait for Sunday's game btw! Quote
prateek Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 I'm surprised that the Swiss were held to a draw, and David Villa's goal was great! Quote

Where are those damn "bratushka" folk when we need them the most! They'd have kicked some serious a$$ during this tournament ;] Quote
