Then it dawned on me: I don't know how to mount them. Can someone help me out?

I don't own any of them, but I'd say look up the building instructions for the sets they come in.

Try to place the door as good as possible in order to shut it succesfully and avoiding the small gap on the side.

That was my one problem with the new air port set 3182 I hate the way the door fits on the plane.
