The Soup Nazi Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 I liked the "old" ones. They were simple and easy to read. The new ones are so complicated! (two studs height vs 1 stud height) Agreed. So confusing!
Hinckley Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Agreed. So confusing! If there are two plates, you've posted in it. If one plate is bold there are new posts in the topic. If it's blue it's a topic under 14 posts. If it's red, it's had over 14 posts. If it's orange, it's a poll. There now, I hope your brains feel better.

Siegfried Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 This and this. Example 1: Deleted Images Example 2: Malformed link (double http) Both not an EB bug. Thanks for answering my question... and sorry for taking so long. It's easier to see if there is a hole rather than 2 studs layered. Just sayin'... To be honest I liked the hole too, but I think the new ones are clear too and they fit in with the site styling better. (The EB symbol has always been a rendered block.)
Rick Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 I like 'em. Would be even better if they were 1 x 1 plates. The new graphics do mess up the forum legend at the bottom of the page though and I can't see what they look like if I have posted in the thread, because I don't think I ever posted in the Action Figures forum. I did like that the old icons corresponded to actually existing LEGO colors. Now the 'Read' icons are pastel tints, which do not correspond to any main-stream LEGO color. The old icons had 'dark-' variants of the primary colors as 'Read' icons.

The old icons had 'dark-' variants of the primary colors as 'Read' icons. Thanks for pointing that out. We're working on the forum legend. I decided to go with shades to match our skins. I didn't like the old ones with the official colors. I thought they were garish against the muted, earthy, deep and more organic tones of our skins. Although these colors don't exactly exist in LEGO, I think they match our site much better.
Siegfried Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Any update on being able to turn off the mobile/lofi theme when viewing on an Ipod? Yes! I believe I have at last found and fixed that. Anyone with an iPod/iPad/iPhone who can confirm this for me?
RileyC Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Yes! I believe I have at last found and fixed that. Anyone with an iPod/iPad/iPhone who can confirm this for me? I can! Works like a charm now! Good work Sieggy!
Siegfried Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 I can! Works like a charm now! Good work Sieggy! Thanks! I'm very happy that I've killed that silly feature. It drives me looney when sites force my Android phone to a cut down version. Sometimes it's handy (Wikipedia does it OK) but many sites are near useless in small-screen mode.
fred67 Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 I don't see a legend at the bottom of the screen. It would help me if the icons had alt tags so that when I hovered over them it reminded me what it meant.
Siegfried Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 I don't see a legend at the bottom of the screen. Bottom of every index. Such as... It would help me if the icons had alt tags so that when I hovered over them it reminded me what it meant. Actually they do! But they don't have a title attribute... which I suspect is what you mean and if I get around to it I'll add one.
fred67 Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Bottom of every index. Such as... Ahh... yeah... I just always go to "View New Content" so I never see it.
Cecilie Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 My only complaint about the new icons was that they seemed to be a bit too large (increasing the size of each row), but now they seem to have shrunk to a more appropriate size And I like the style, I agree that it fits better with the style of the forum in general.
Rick Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Although these colors don't exactly exist in LEGO, I think they match our site much better. I'm already with you on this point, after seeing them in action on forums that I do post in. Icons like these actually make a lot of intuitive sense: Nice work.
Big Cam Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Whoa, I didn't realize my post would start such a debate. I actually don't mind them, I was just faking a chance at a stab at shadows since I thought he had done it. We will all get used to the new studs in no time.
vexorian Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 The idea of using studs is fine. But I don't really the drawing style that was used. CGI studs don't really match the rest of the site, and I really dislike things with faded colors when stylish and cartoony looks much better. Consider the style of our emoticons: Or the way bricks are usually represented in bricklink:
Siegfried Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 CGI studs don't really match the rest of the site But the EB logo is CGI...

Consider the style of our emoticons: Or the way bricks are usually represented in bricklink: The render is from Bricklink... And we've had these: since I took over graphics. They are not cartoony, in my opinion. They match the plates I just created just fine.
Big Cam Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 I have to agree with hinkley, what part of the stud makes it look CGI? It is proportioned correctly, just a bit bigger than a lifesize stud.
prateek Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Not a huge fan of the studs, but I like the sleek "locked" sign
vexorian Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 (edited) I picked the wrong term - CGI. It is the lack of borders and the faded colors that makes them look out of place for me. The skin has a lot more solid colors , there are faded colors but not as much. The colors in that yellow brick are more solid which makes the borders more noticeable. Or perhaps it is because of the use of a primal color instead of the strange colors chosen or something. I seldom like anti-aliased stuff and much prefer edginess, it is just an opinion though. The logo in the top : Also shows more solid colors in the brick. Edited October 13, 2010 by vexorian
Brickdoctor Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 Yes! I believe I have at last found and fixed that. Anyone with an iPod/iPad/iPhone who can confirm this for me? It works, except how does one switch back to mobile mode? For when I want speed and my WiFi network is having a bad day. When I first come to the site, it's mobile, but then switches to normal when I sign in.
Siegfried Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 It works, except how does one switch back to mobile mode? For when I want speed and my WiFi network is having a bad day. When I first come to the site, it's mobile, but then switches to normal when I sign in. Via the Skin select at the bottom of each page. Select the "Lo-Fi" one.

Now you all can just rely on the tip window.
Darth Jar Jar Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 Done! To be honest this is the first time I knew what these icons actually meant! Now you all can just rely on the tip window. That helps alot
