Mkay.

The SW 2010 Rumours topic disapeared straight after I left it. *huh* Is it me, the new server, or did a Mod remove it?

No, it's still there.

I just unpinned it - but that's a whole different discussion within the Star Wars Forum.

Check the "Talk to Your Moderator" topic with the Star Wars Forum for more info on that.

Where are the smileys? Ah, here they are. So many piratey ones! :hmpf: All mixed up with the normal ones... :hmpf_bad:

That's fixed now!

Looking good! Finally the standard theme uses the whole screen real estate, good for us with big monitors/high resolutions..

Is it possible to add a quick reply-function, I wonder...

w board upgrade is ok in my opinion, some good things and some bad things. I will say the good things first:

  • The smilies come up as pictures when you add them in. default_vader3.gif
  • The new text writer, the one I am typing on in actually rather very nice and refreshing.
  • I like that the avatar and profile settings are in the corner.
  • I think we get our own gallery's, (not too sure yet).
  • More settings to customize the site how we want it.
  • You can download the topic and read it later on.

Now for the bad things which I don't like about the new board upgrade, I have screenshots too.

  • What is the point of having so much space to the right for avatars and profile info. There is way too much space on either side of the info.
  • Look at the photo below, there is loads of wasted space at the bottom of the forum index. I think there should be less space and the names should also go under the statistics to save some space, at the moment the things in the pic below take up a whole screen when looking at them:

4707126000_5b0fb80328.jpg

  • This has been said before, but the user number or posts to be moved.
  • All pinned topics need to be pointed out better.
  • Can the below have the title underlined, same with the thing below it on the frontpage:

Yep well that is it but actually one more thing.

The bloody image inserting feature is driving me fricking crazy. The box is so small and useless and then when I paste something in it by left clicking it goes onto the main page. I have to select paste from the top which gets annoying. Then just now it just basically blanks me completely. Stupid box, this is what it is doing to me:

(I am on the left, the box is on the right)

And this is what I want to do to it, (Now I am on the left)

I still can't decide whether I like new look or not, I will have to wait and test it more.

But two thing instantly bothered me:

Member number and post count should be moved apart, it is very confusing. And I not the only one thinking this.

Pinned topic should be better separated from other topics.

Did something change since the upgrade? The board seems different. I'm not sure, but I think the dark blue highlights were added to the skin, and the signature barriers were added (both good points, IMO). Excellent work, keep it up guys. default_satisfied.gif

I see. Thanks KimT! :classic:

I'm glad to say just an hour on EB has already gotten me used to the new system!

Btw, it would be great if the thread titles were bold to stand out from the description and other topics.

Okay, after a few days of this new look, I've noticed some things. First, you can't quick edit, which means you have to go back to the full reply section again. This gets a bit tedious when fixing grammar and adding something in to the post. Secondly, it's a bit weird not having the pinned topics separate from the others. It's a bit confusing when looking for topics with new posts in them. Instead of looking at the first topic in the second box, you have to see which topics aren't pinned. Sorry if this sounds too nit-picky, but it's just my two cents :classic:

I also am noticing that, at first glance I get confused by the member number and post count. And I agree, the pinned topics should have a separate box at the top, just like before.

On the member profile box at the upper right corner:

Not going to change. I actually like this feature.

I'm not actually saying to remove the member profile box at the upper right corner, but at least maybe you could edit the banner in such a way that the box won't block any of the characters. Just look above: Spongebob, Ahsoka, and Willie Scott is being blocked by the box! It just doesn't look right to me. It defeats the purpose of putting those characters in the banner if they are just going to be blocked.

It seems like the information I had entered into my profile (avatar pic and signature) got lost in the update. I'm not sure if others experienced the same as I see everyone still having their avatars and signatures.

It seems to just be you. No clue why.

I had noticed before that a lot of my pm's have red x's next to them, and it wont let me reply?

In order to use the conversation system, if the pm you want to reply to has been deleted by either participant, it can't be replied to anymore. It's confusing to me as well.

It looks the same to me as it was yesterday. I don't think your change went through.

It did. <ctrl>-<f5> to REALLY reload the page and it'll appear.

I also noticed some of the hyperlinks in signatures and posts are showing their HTML codes.

We ran a script to fix those after the upgrade as IPB changed some important code. Most of them took, a few didn't. Any remaining errors will have to be manually fixed, they won't heal automatically.

The only thing I noticed is if you compare the Pirate section with another for instance Scifi. That the Pirate section is somewhat blown up proportion wise.

Well, Mr. Phes skinned Pirates and I adapted most of the rest of the site and made a few new ones as well. He's always been a little more 'blown up' than me.

That'll move, I have no doubt.

The banners need to accommodate all of the varying screen resolutions of our visitors. 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024, 1600x1200, 1920x1080, the list goes on forever. As a result, if we want to keep that box from blocking anything on any screen, we'd have to leave the banners blank from about 650 on (lowest resolution minus usernav size). I'm sure you can see why that wouldn't work out well. Even ignoring the lowest resolution, we'd need to leave a 150px gap at every major resolution point, which would be literally the whole screen again. There's no winning that one.

Thanks for the clarification, now I am enlightened. default_classic.gif I guess we just have to deal with it. Anyway, it's just a minor issue. Overall, I still appreciate the new and improved look of the forum.

We're in a brief skin adjustment phase, so you may load a forum and by the time you view a post, see changes. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

Is there a way that just me can make it so the pictures no longer come up when I post them, so it is back how it used to be with codes?

It sounds like you're using the RTE (Rich Text Editor). It makes pics and emoticons appear as they would when posted. To turn it off, click the arrow next to your username in the usernav box above, select "My Settings" and uncheck "Enable visual (RTE) editor?" then "Save Changes" and you should be back to the normal text editor.

One suggestion, if I may - clicking an external link from a thread makes that new page open in the same window. Most forums make that new page open in a new tab or window, to keep you from accidentally navigating away from the thread you're reading. Something to consider, anyway!

This is my biggest annoyance with the new version too. I'm so used with getting another tab when I click a link and now I just keep closing the wrong window all the time. :cry_sad:

The user info on the left looks a lot better now with the member number being lower down on the list.

Great improvement!

That is my biggest problem too with this new forum update, especially when clicking on a link to another site or a picture gallery such as flickr or brickshelf.:cry_sad:

On a side note, where is the "location: " in the user info on the left?

Gone! People wanted it smaller and *poof* that's what I did! (It's not really needed...)

External links now open to a new window (or tab, depending on your browser settings). That's how it was on the old board and it seems that a majority of members liked it that way, so back it goes.

Various small adjustments have been made to address issues that the members have brought up. At this point, there are a few things we plan to work on internally, so sit back, take a deep breath, and become one with the new look and feel of the site. Change is always a little shocking at first, but at this stage, it honestly isn't any different than going to your favourite store that has been remodeled to serve you better. Look around, get used to it, you'll be on your way again in no time.

Please feel free to point out any glaring errors you may spot or just express your opinions about the whole process, and if anything major changes, we'll be sure to update you here.

Have fun! :sweet:
