The Legonater Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 (edited) Shouldn't new hosts host these games? Then the teachers can teach the host and the players at the same time. Of course if the new host screws it up then the teacher can take over... for instance I would really like to host a game, and I have some pretty good ideas, but first I would like to train a bit so I can host my game perfectly, and not mess the whole thing up in the middle... I was thinking that as well last night, but it's possible brand new players couple with a brand new host wouldn't go well... Edited February 8, 2011 by The Legonater
Walter Kovacs Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 I was thinking that as well last night, but it's possible brand new players couple with a bran new host couldn't go well... Yeah, it'd be like two virgins megablocking. A better question to ask is would it be beneficial to have prospective hosts co-host these newbie games with an experienced host? Then we get new players learning, and new hosts learning as well, and the game won't get hung up because a newbie host doesn't know what the hell they are doing.

Then we get new players learning, and new hosts learning as well, and the game won't get hung up because a newbie host doesn't know what the hell they are doing. Now that's a good idea, that would really be beneficial for everybody. At first the Experienced member shows the newbie the basics, then the newbie runs the game, always consulting the veteran, and if the new host is promising, at the end he/she can do the hosting alone.

I don't like to have someone next to me, telling me how to run things. But I admit, it works greatly.
Hinckley Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Shouldn't new hosts host these games? No! Of course not. When you went to school, were you taught by students?
Peanuts Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 No! Of course not. When you went to school, were you taught by students? Sometimes...there's a horrible staff shortage at our school

While I disagree that new hosts should try to teach people how to play, do not fear that we have abandoned you. The senior faculty of Mafia School is working on a couple of other projects as well.

Dragonator Posted February 9, 2011 Author Posted February 9, 2011 What kind of projects, may I ask? Top secret ones, of course! You can try and discover them, but they are hidden deep within my cave, so I'd recommend not going alone. More people means more for lunch. More food that is.

Alopex Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Or virgins? Virgins are a species long extincted in Blackwood, thanks to Harr... *cough* someone. Sluts are (sadly) thriving. The perfect road of course, is being simply ladylike, and not taking it to the extremes...

Alopex Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 (edited) You're just jealous of my manners, and I'm sure that deep down you want to be a proper lady. Just cut the cleavage, and behave like a civilized lady... Cleavage won't get you anywhere... (Alright it will, but sluttyness isn't the greatest virtue.) Edited February 9, 2011 by Alopex
Alopex Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 I've thought of an idea. What if players who completed the Mafia School but need some more practice (and other players who think they need some practice) could play in the games hosted by new hosts. This would mean that the the games wouldn't be played by complete newcomers, but not by veterans either, who would: A, Be bored. B, Mess up the new hosts experience with complicated playing, useless characterisation, and metagaming (*cough* Hinckley *cough* ) As these games would probably quite simple, but more complex then the starter ones it would be practice (and a good experience) for everybody!
Sandy Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Before we create a whole multitiered system for beginner, advanced and expert Mafia games, we need to carefully consider how big the demand for them actually is. Currently it seems that the Mafia games get about 50 sign-ups per game, about half of which are people who have played in 0 to 2 games. Since Mafia School cuts the amount of sign-ups by removing the first-timers, we need to look at how many people are left over. My ideal game forum would be one where everybody gets a chance to play, but on the other hand I've been a moderator to a similar game forum on another message board where there were more hosts and open games than there were actual players. And that is not a situation we want to get ourselves in, really. So I suggest we wait until the next pair of games (Forest & Paradisa) is finished before drawing any conclusions about if we need a third game for those who fall in between rookies and veterans.
Dragonator Posted March 1, 2011 Author Posted March 1, 2011 With the end of the current game, it is the correct time for me to hand out awards. As you all know, the Mafia Appreciation tag is a highly valued award given out very sparingly. The prerequisites for the award are as follows: The Mafia Appreciation tag is a prestigious award given to a member who has demonstrated quality participation over the course of at least 4 EB Mafia Games to a notably high degree of excellence, whether playing or hosting. Tags will be awarded between games and announced in the General Discussion thread. Tags are awarded at the discretion of an informal select panel of Games staff, headed by the Games Moderator. After some consultation, I have decided to award Lord Arjay with a Mafia Appreciation tag. Although fairly new to the Mafia scene, Lord Arjay proved himself as a cunning fox in his first game, Hogwarts Mafia, driving some of us on the scum side (yes, me) utterly mad. Having survived this game, Arjay gave an admirable effort in Eurodina, this time playing as one of the Mafia families, and was one of the last to die in this, surviving till day 14. He has since survived the most recent two games, making him one of our most promising new players (or at least really lucky ). Thus, as he has now completed four games, I feel he is more than deserving of this tag. Seriously, don't underestimate this guy. Congratulations Arjay, a very well deserved award. There are several more of you who are in the running for one of these. I would love to give out another 4 or so, however it is meant to be an elusive award, and I like you all to have a challenge. So, my challenge to you is keep playing and prove yourselves worthy. Otherwise, you get fed to the dragon.
JimBee Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Knew it. Well deserved, Arjay, you are indeed a great mafia player. Keep up the good work.
WhiteFang Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Congratulations Arjay! You are one hell of a good mafia player. I will also like to add that the fact that he played his cards and strategies very well in his first game, Hogwarts Mafia, by leading a a 3 straight successful day conviction to reduce the scum numbers. In addition to that, you are also one of the survivors in Hogwarts due to your neutral stand. You almost forced me to a dead corner and I had to put up a tough fight to steer the suspicions away from me.
Ricecracker Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Congratulations, Arjay! I had contemplated suggesting you get one after BloodBrick, but I figured Draggy knows how to do his job. Definitely well deserved.
Admiral Ron Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Congratulations Lord Arjay! You definately deserve it!
The Legonater Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Congrats Arjay- and well deserved too. You've done really well on every game you've been in. Great work!

You're a lot of fun to play with outside of being very good. You made me laugh a lot during our private conversations and it was fun to see the inner workings of both of your games, scum and town. Excellent work and very well deserved! Yay for Gojira!
