Rick Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 This is your chance to learn the ropes and show your teeth, so you too can one day be doublecrossed by Shadows, duped by Dragonator and mocked by Hinckley. Double-crossed by Shadows... check Duped by Dragonator... check Mocked by Hinckley... hmmm, HARRIET! Are you mocking me now? Where can I pick up my Mafia School diploma?
Dragonator Posted February 6, 2011 Author Posted February 6, 2011 Where can I pick up my Mafia School diploma? My office, any time.
def Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 If players crash and burn and have nasty repeated flame outs in the 'advanced' games, can they join in order to brush up their basics?
Dragonator Posted February 6, 2011 Author Posted February 6, 2011 If players crash and burn and have a nasty flame out in the 'advanced' games, can they join in order to brush up their basics? Applicants looking for special entry will be reviewed on a case by case basis by a select panel of the senior faculty, but the chances are not high, and priority will be given to young, fresh new graduates. Because I like them fresh. More likely, special applicants will simply be eaten. We shall see. No Fangy, you may not try to get into Mafia School.
ADHO15 Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 This sounds like a great idea to introduce newbies to Mafia Games and learn the basics without it affecting the flow of an advanced game. I hope to see lots of fresh meat joining the world of Mafia Games (but not too much competition).
KartoffelViking Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 [snip] On my own behalf I'd like to welcome all the people who are interested in playing EB Mafia games, but haven't yet gotten a chance to sign up into Escape from Isla Paradisa right after the conclusion of Werewolf Mafia. [snip] What a great initiative, and I'll be sure to sign up when the time comes! I had a great time following the asylum, and I keep checking for updates to the werewolf mafia more often than I should. I haven't had my first fix yet, and I'm already experiencing the withdrawal symptons of an addict
Alopex Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 and mocked by Hinckley. Harriet doesn't mock anybody! She just rights a little play about them! (although the play doesn't put them in a positive role... )
Eskallon Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Sounds interesting, sign me up. Wait, whats that about me being too qualified, Darn It. Anyway interesting concept and I think this will definatly improve the players quality of gaming and give them a fighting chance when they do sign up for a real game. Out of interest how large will the games be?
def Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 I think it's going to be little games, 12-16 players.
The Legonater Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Wait, whats that about me being too qualified, Darn It. That's something I never thought I'd hear This is a great idea- I find a lot of the time first-timers get killed pretty early, often for bad reasons (I.E, list of motives, bad stuffer, etc.). Hopefully this will show new players what not to do (Again, list motives).
Peanuts Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Great idea. Although I think I've played to often to get into it, right? But seriously, I think this gives new players a chance to get experience. I'm wondering if there will also be other hosts for mafia academy but Sandy?
Sandy Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Anyway interesting concept and I think this will definatly improve the players quality of gaming and give them a fighting chance when they do sign up for a real game. Out of interest how large will the games be? Ahem! We prefer to call them "advanced" games. Even though Mafia School games are simpler, they are still real games and the winners will get their names on the winning list. It looks like we're settling for a maximum of 16 players for all Mafia School games. It might be less if there aren't enough sign ups, but we'll see how popular these will become in time. I'm wondering if there will also be other hosts for mafia academy but Sandy? Of course. I just happened to get to host the first round. I'm sure all the people who've shown their teeth at hosting already can apply to host a future Mafia School game.
def Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Of course. I just happened to get to host the first round. I'm sure all the people who've shown their teeth at hosting already can apply to host a future Mafia School game. You have to host an advanced game before hosting a Mafia School game?! But seriously, I think the first few rounds should be veteran game hosts, but this might become an area to break in new hosts as well.
WhiteFang Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 No Fangy, you may not try to get into Mafia School. :cry_sad: I was about to post my interest in signing up and you preempt me in advance! I am just a newbie mafia player. However.... Now, let's the fun begins!
Pandora Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 we've been talking that from now on, all those who haven't yet participated in a Mafia game here in EB have to play a Mafia School game before they can sign up into an advanced Mafia game. For that purpose we will compile a list of "graduates" that the future hosts can use to see who are eligible as players for their game. I've already expressed my enthusiasm for mafia games and this sounds perfect as I was worried that background reading and forum-watching wouldn't necessarily translate to any actual ability to play, so thank you for setting this up With that in mind though, if I do turn out to be absolute rubbish, am I doomed to repeat the class, or will I be politely ushered from the forum never to darken its doors again? Or eaten by a dragon? Yes, we're elitists bastards, get used to it.
WhiteFang Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 This is your chance to learn the ropes and show your teeth, so you too can one day be doublecrossed by Shadows, duped by Dragonator and mocked by Hinckley. Ah, the painful memories!
Rick Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 With that in mind though, if I do turn out to be absolute rubbish, am I doomed to repeat the class, or will I be politely ushered from the forum never to darken its doors again? Tamamono Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 On my own behalf I'd like to welcome all the people who are interested in playing EB Mafia games, but haven't yet gotten a chance to sign up into Escape from Isla Paradisa right after the conclusion of Werewolf Mafia. The setting is obviously Paradisa-themed, but as Dragonator said, the rules will be simple and easy for anyone to understand. I'd like to add one thing that Dragonator forgot to mention: we've been talking that from now on, all those who haven't yet participated in a Mafia game here in EB have to play a Mafia School game before they can sign up into an advanced Mafia game. For that purpose we will compile a list of "graduates" that the future hosts can use to see who are eligible as players for their game. I'm sure that if this system does not work, Draggy will come up with something different. I hope Mafia School answers to the worries of all those who've had trouble getting into the awesomeness that are the EB Mafia games. This is your chance to learn the ropes and show your teeth, so you too can one day be doublecrossed by Shadows, duped by Dragonator and mocked by Hinckley. I'm certainly excited about it! I've read a good deal of the mafiascum wiki, but never actually participated in a game like this before. You can definately expect to see me in the sign ups!
Brickdoctor Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Been meaning to get into a mafia game for some time; I'll be certain to sign up!
Sisco Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 What about players that have limited experience? For example, I've only played in one true mafia game, so would I be able to sign up?
Ricecracker Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Perhaps it would be helpful to include 1-2 intermediate level players in the game, too, to make sure the game progresses properly. Of course, I'm not sure the specifics of the school part, but that's just something that might help.
CMP Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 (edited) Cool. There'll now be more differentiation between players so the same people won't get in all the time. Oh wait. Crap. Edited February 6, 2011 by CallMePie
Sandy Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Pandora, if someone happens to fail a Mafia School for some reason, they can of course try again. But in order to fail, you'd have to be really clueless about what the game is all about. I for one will do my best to teach the participants in the process of my game without affecting the outcome. What about players that have limited experience? For example, I've only played in one true mafia game, so would I be able to sign up? Perhaps it would be helpful to include 1-2 intermediate level players in the game, too, to make sure the game progresses properly. I'm sorry, but the Mafia School games are only open for first-timers, simply because they're meant for teaching the basics of Mafia. Anyone who's already participated in one of the EB Mafia Games do not really need to learn the ropes anymore, they've already learned them the hard way. There might be a few exceptions to this, but that's up to the mods to decide.

It's not that I want to play, I just fear that the participants may be wary of playing, and that 1-2 more experienced members could help progress the game. Like I said, I'm sure you guys have something figured out to take care of this, but I thought I'd bring it up.
