Sandy Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 It's not that I want to play, I just fear that the participants may be wary of playing, and that 1-2 more experienced members could help progress the game. But the point of Mafia School isn't to have a highly successful and entertaining experience (even though it is always positive if the games end up that way), it's about teaching and learning. I'm sure the hosts can manage all the necessary guidance. Remember that the standard "advanced" games will continue on schedule, and the "Mafia students" can follow them and learn from the experts at the same time.
Brickdoctor Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 So after I play in one Mafia School game, then I 'graduate' and move on to standard games, correct? And (just curious how this will work) if we win a Mafia School game, do we still get the Mafia winner tag? Because if so that might make some people who worked to get one in a standard game unhappy.
Rick Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 And (just curious how this will work) if we win a Mafia School game, do we still get the Mafia winner tag? There is no mafia winner tag. It's an 'appreciation' tag for continued involvement in and/or hosting of mafia games, if I understand correctly.

I believe it's for players who show exemplary skill and sportsmanship over a number of games, or for those who run the forum. Rick beat me to it! Edited February 6, 2011 by Ricecracker
Mrlegoninja Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 No Fangy, you may not try to get into Mafia School. Yay! Sounds interesting. I've played one mafia and one mystery which were both very fun. I'll be sure to watch these newbie games to see how they are progressing!

Because I remember when Village of the Bloody Damned ended, the winner (cralegoboy?) got a tag, and all he did was sit around and target nobody.
Rick Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 I was talking about this tag . The tag for the bloodbath game was handed out because of the Halloween theme month. Normally, winners of mafia games don't get tags.

Mrlegoninja Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 That tag I believe you reciev once you've hosted a game.
Sisco Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Really? Because I remember when Village of the Bloody Damned ended, the winner (cralegoboy?) got a tag, and all he did was sit around and target nobody. Gee, you didn't see what went on behind the scenes. Believe me, I did more than "sit around and target nobody". But I digress. True, I did get a tag. But you have to remember that VotBD was a theme month game, and not a real mafia game. The awarding of the tag was at our Scary Madmin's discretion.
JimBee Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Great idea, thanks for putting it together Sandy and Draggy (as well as others behind the scenes). I was beginning to worry, because as EB mafia games progress, more and more people want to play. And there simply isn't enough room for all of the vets and noobs who want to play. That tag I believe you reciev once you've hosted a game. Nope. Ricecracker, I think said it the best. You receive it after showing dedication and skill in mafia games, hosting or playing. And even then, you might not get one. It's really up to Draggy and Shadows.

All I did was block someone... Guess I just made myself not seem suspicious... Thanks for a great game, Shadows! I guess I'm just not very well acquainted with how much work blocking involves.
Sisco Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 I meant I blocked someone on the last night. I think in the end I had investigated someone, killed two, and blocked one. I also kept a low profile in the day. Seeing as no one targeted me throughout the game and I was the only to survive, I think I deserved that tag.
Hinckley Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Really? Because I remember when Village of the Bloody Damned ended, the winner (cralegoboy?) got a tag, and all he did was sit around and target nobody. Normally, complaining about someone else getting a tag doesn't exactly make you a likely candidate to get your own tag any sooner.
Brickdoctor Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Normally, complaining about someone else getting a tag doesn't exactly make you a likely candidate to get your own tag any sooner. I'm not trying to get a tag. Like I said, I was just curious as to how the system worked. Besides, I doubt I'll be able to do anything but ask questions in the first game.
Hinckley Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Besides, I doubt I'll be able to do anything but ask questions in the first game. There's no system.
Dragonator Posted February 7, 2011 Author Posted February 7, 2011 With that in mind though, if I do turn out to be absolute rubbish, am I doomed to repeat the class, or will I be politely ushered from the forum never to darken its doors again? Or eaten by a dragon? Well that depends, do you taste good with apple sauce? I'm glad everyone is so excited about Mafia School, it promises to be a lot of fun. And this is only the beginning.
RileyC Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Sounds like a great idea Draggy! Im sure it will get some good newbies in here and boost their confidences. I do hope they can make it with us big boys (Im not really a big boy though, more like a medium boy ). I cant wait to see who comes up through the ranks!
Walter Kovacs Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 This sounds like a great idea. But it seems I've heard it somewhere before... On a much more serious note, I would like to suggest that someone host a "beginners" mafia. There were a lot of inexperienced, first and second-timers that wanted to get into the Hogwarts game that couldn't (myself included). And with vets taking up spaces in every game, it will be hard for these newbies to gain any experience. Just a thought. There it is! I thought it sounded familiar. All kidding aside, I'm glad to see this idea finally taking shape.

This is in no way a new idea, but it was just time to make it happen instead of just continuously talking about it.

It's a wonderful idea, and I'm happy it's coming to fruition. It'll be good for EB Mafia games in the long run. I just can't wait to see the newbies in the heat of battle. Before long, we might have enough seasoned players to run two mafias at once. Wouldn't that be wonderfully confusing for those playing at home.
Alopex Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Shouldn't new hosts host these games? Then the teachers can teach the host and the players at the same time. Of course if the new host screws it up then the teacher can take over... for instance I would really like to host a game, and I have some pretty good ideas, but first I would like to train a bit so I can host my game perfectly, and not mess the whole thing up in the middle...
