Derek Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Thanks for the pics, but I have to admit, my first impression of this set is that its farggin' ugly. I really don't need to buy another set this year, so I think this (might?) be a good thing? -darthperson Quote
Tribolego Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 The photo from the AT-AT came from a French Toys'R'Us gift. All sets from 2010 are on it except the Cad Bane's speeder. There is also arts from all the figs you can find in these sets. There is only one At-AT pilot in the AT-AT set. If I have time, I will made some scans from all the pages of the little catalogue gift tomorrow at work. You will see them on FreeLUG.org :D Quote

k_peek_2000 Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 (edited) I am not a fan of the new At-At at all. Those legs. Why do they have huge black sqares on them? The scale of the head/body/legs is completely wrong. I am going to pass. Hopefully they can fix those legs. Price wise and over-all this model looks much inferior to the current walking AT-AT. I imagine it won't be over $100 USD. Edited March 28, 2010 by k_peek_2000 Quote
Tinn-man Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 I like this AT-AT better, actually. It's much more realistic compared to the motorized one. It captures the shape of it perfectly, see? LINK It's about the same size, too, if you count the studs. Each part of the leg is still 8 studs high, just like the last one, only they didn't use a larger dish at the top of the leg connecting it to the body, which I believe looks more accurate. As for everyone complaining about another Hoth Han, he doesn't have on the usual coat like in previous sets. The toyfair book showed us that he has a new jacked and a shirt, like what he wore at Bespin. So he looks like this:LINK I love this set, and it's a must buy for me, as I don't have an AT-AT yet. Ravenxl7 Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 (edited) I'm probably in the minority on this, but I rather like the new AT-AT set. The more simplified design is something I like about it. Plust it comes with a decent amount of minifigures, so that's a plus. Though honestly, C-3P0 seems a little random in this set. Especially without R2-D2 along with him. I'm not sure I'll get it, but as it's my second favorite vehicle from Star Wars, and was featured in my absolute favorite Star Wars movie, there's a good chance I will. I'm already planning on getting the midi-scaled Imperial Star Destroyer, as it's my absolute favorite vehicle in the Star Wars universe. Edit: Didn't realize it was a TRU exclusive. That fact alone will mean I'll probably not get it, as I've never had any luck getting anything that was a TRU exclusive. Oh well, I've got more important, and more expensive sets to get this year. At the very least I'll still get the MS ISD set. Should go nicely with my mini X-Wing (won't be in-scale, but they'll look nice next to each other). Edited March 28, 2010 by Ravenxl7 Quote
Jar Jar Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 (edited) Thanks for the pictures! Everything looks weird but it seems to be a prelim. Is it me or does it look like Luke has a printed visor? I am kind of dissapointed with the set. They could have had a Hoth Leia and maybe R2. Edited March 28, 2010 by Jar Jar Quote
Tribolego Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 What's that set on the left? Seems like something from SW theme. The gift catalogue is only presenting SW sets. On the left is the Emperor Palpatine's Shuttle Thanks for the pictures! Everything looks weird but it seems to be a prelim. Is it me or does it look like Luke has a printed visor? I am kind of dissapointed with the set. They could have had a Hoth Leia and maybe R2. It's not preliminary besause the gift catalogue is public (TRU gift in France) Quote
Deinonychus Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 IT'S HORRIBLE! I was hoping for a UCS AT-AT with power functions, a full compliment of Snowtroopers, 2 speeder bikes, a sound brick, old gray bricks, a cash dispenser, and the ability to make me a sandwich! This monstrosity just looks like TLG tried to make a walker out of whatever pieces they had lying around in production because they hate us. Bastards. I'm gonna take the money I was going to spend on this and buy crack. Quote
DarthSion Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 I hope there will be more snow troopers, and yeah another Han. Quote
RoryoCox Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Thanks for the pictures. I have not made my mind up about this set yet. Part of me is telling me that it is to much like the last version. BUT I also believe that their are some improvements e.g. Legs and Head Some good minifigures but all are repeats, I hope to see a good inside and some more minifigures soon. Quote
Derek Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 I just realized that the new AT-AT is a TRU exclusive, as it is pictured with all the other ones. It made me realize that sets as iconic as this shouldn't be store exclusives, similar to the most recent X-Wing and Luke's landspeeder. I would imagine that they would sell LOADS more if they were widespread releases, especially the X-Wing, which has been out for almost 5 years now, and is STILL on the S@H best seller list. I can already tell this will be the case with the Landspeeder: it's been on backorder since it was released in January. Now sets like the Swamp Speeder, Pirate Tank, Ahsoka's Fighter, Solar Sailer etc. are perfect sets for exclusives, as they are not as well-known, yet still have that coolness/elusiveness factor. Does anyone know how the exclusive sets are decided upon, and how it is decided which stores they are exclusive to? Quote
Mofo Jones Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 TRU exclusive = I buy it at the LEGO store. I like the basic design of the set so far, but I'm hoping for more pictures soon. Quote

DarthSion Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 No there should never ever be exclusive, especially for total rip off. Quote

Normally it's negotiated nationally, so as it's a picture from France it's seems to be sure to be a TRU exclusive in France. So to answer, exclusivities are decided with money on the table Edited March 28, 2010 by Tribolego Quote
Ras 74 Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 I will pass on the new AT-AT. There is no point in talking bad of the set really. I use to say wait til we see better pictures, but here it is not nessesary for me. What possible design can they include to make it worth buying?? I truley hopw there will be an UCS200-250 $ AT-AT one day. If they do that, I promisse I will get 3 of them. Quote
DarthSion Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Opening sides would do it for me, make an awesome MOC for the Hoth mission of TFU. Quote
sok117 Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Thanks Anio, the legs look okay, but it really got smaller. I might get it if I see it. Quote
SWMAN Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Blah another AT-AT that looks exactly like the last one. While the figures included looks nice the actual set looks disappointing. Other than a (possible) new interior the outside looks just like all the other ones. Quote
Zzz Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Why does everyone say it looks like the last one? To me it looks pretty much like 4483 with less details. I guess it is not that obvious on this picture, but the new ones' legs are like 4483, giving it a skinnier look from the front, like the real one. I expected it to be hard for TLC to surpass 4483 and I am afraid I was right. It is still the most superior AT-AT of all of them, without a doubt. Sure the minifigs are nice, but the model has less detail. Quote
RileyC Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Well it looks alright but better than the PF one though. If it was any other vehicle I probably wouldnt buy it buts its an AT AT! I think I will probably have to wait for a good review of it before I make up my mind on this one. Its good that it doesnt have PF cause you can just see technic rods down the legs and no wires. Im just hoping they didnt put PF on this prelim because they didnt want to not just cause they didnt have any PF lying around Quote
mutley777 Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 I put this comparisum pic together to show all 3 sets. If you have any doubt about how good the first (4483) AT-AT was look at the movie picture in the background! Quote
I Scream Clone Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Thanks for the comparison shots Mutley. Thanks to Anio too for finding this pic. I still think it looks quite nice, and very similar to the original. Shame they haven't used the printed dish pieces, but it still looks nice imho. Quote

If they did an updated (for the better) rerelease of the original with these new figures, I would probably consider buying it...The first one was, without a doubt, the best of these three. -darthperson Quote
