So yesterday evening I was cutting bread. Nothing spectacular so far, unless you consider the fact that I cut myself deeply from above (through the nail) into my left index finger spectacular.

The surgeon I consulted today said that this would either a) hurt as hell but heal over time or b) the damaged tissue (and nearly the whole of my fingertip as well) would die off (alls this "turning black"-stuff >:-) ).

So my latest semi-serious injury inspired me to this thread.

Tell your forum-siblings of your most heavy and serious injuries, may it be a broken arm, a wisdom-tooth removed or a gunshot-wound right in the belly! Only the most gory details will suffice here *wacko* X-D :-X

So come on folks ^^!

PS: NO PUNS INVOLVING MY SCREEN NAME PLEASE ! :-P *wacko*

When you realise that pain is just a reaction caused by a problem in your skin, perhaps the pain'll go away.Unless you Cut yourself again.

Hmmmmmm an interesting topic i guess, a cut above from what we usually discuss.......

Ok well here goes with my story, about 8 yrs ago i had a habit of jumping down my parents stairs. I had done this since i was little and kinda got a kick out of it, one particular day i did what i always did and jumped down the stairs however unknown to me at the time my mom had dropped a few of here sewing needles at the bottom of the stairs.

Unfortunatly for me she had picked up all but one and yes youve guessed it i landed on it, the damn thing went straight into the bottom of my foot, luckly for me there was enough of the needle left sticking out of my foot for me to be able to pull it out.

It hurt like hell but seemed ok apart from a bruise on the bottom of my foot, so i just decided that as i got the needle out and as it seemed intact i wouldnt bother getting it looked at by a doctor. So for the next few months i went on with my normal day to day stuff, my foot seemed ok except for when i played football. Each time i did my foot would fill sore and would hurt, i just assumed it was just over use as i would play football with my friends each night.

Anyway this cycle continued untill one night i went out drinking with some friends, when i got home i was completly wasted and as i took off my socks to go to bed but i noticed what looked like a spot on the side of my foot but unlike most spots this one had a sharp edge sticking out of it.

As i pressed against it i saw the tip of a needle sticking out and realised that when i stood on the needle all those months ago it must of snapped in half and that i had been walking around with half of it in my foot for all those months.

Luckily i was able to pull the needle out of my foot, this was possible because of how drunk i was and therefore couldnt feel pain.

So there you have it folks i had a needle enter on the left side of my right foot and after a few months i had the rest come out from the top of the right side of my right foot. The doctors told me i was really lucky not to have been poisend by it and that no long term damage was done.

Since then i have given up on my stair jumping and now prefer to watch where i walk.

My Ex-Girlfriend crashed my right small finger at a Volleyball game in sports class (that was even before we came together) and after the finger became the tripple size of my thumb she told me that she also had such an injury some time ago and that the finger didn't hurt anymore and was normal size after two or three weeks. So I didn't visit the doctor and guess what... The finger didn't heal back to normal. Nowadays I have a funny looking finger on my right hand... At least it is normal size again, but with a funny angle.... *wacko*

Thanks to my Ex for this.... |-/

Whoa Vader! Good thing there's alcohol to numb oneself when needed!

This reminds me of the glass-splinter my sister had in her arm for about half a year (she more or less punched through a glass-insert of the living room door) that would rip open the wound again every time she held it at a certein angle.

Or a colleague of mine who tried to stomp an umbrella with the result of said umbrella punching a hole through his sneaker. He would then curl him up in a pub's toilet-box which he left behind as a slaughterhouse: blood everywhere and even some flesh he tore off the wound. We tried to clean up the mess as good as we could, given we only had toilet-paper to clean it, but it wasn't to the best possible results. Next customer must have thought who-knows-what...

As for fingers at a weird angle...Who hasn't got at least one of these ^^? Either through volley- or handball.

Proves even more how "sport is murder" ^^

Laddie, you shouldn't use cutlasses to slice bread otherwise accidents happen like this happen. Next time use a knife!

Hehe, if that would've been English, you would've been sent to the chamber :-P

Anyway, I have a history of injuring myself. When I was 5 or so I fell on a concrete block at my playground and ended up with a hole in my head. When I was 10 or so I fell again and hit the edge of our living room table, thus ending up with a second hole in my head (I actually got lucky, a bit lower and I would've lost an eye...)

And then, last November, I broke my wrist when playing football. It should've been over in 6 weeks, but the fracture didn't grow together the way it should...so I had to have surgery and am now walking around with a titanium plate and 6 screws in my wrist :-/ . Not to mention the terribly ugly scar...it looks like I tried to cut my wrists...

My injury history also begun much earlier, with 4 or 5 years or so I fell while running upstairs (stone steps) and since that day I have a scar at my lip.

With 7 or so I steped into a broken glas bottle and there were one or two pieces (surely 2-3 cm^2) of it in my foot.

With 9 I broke my right arm while trying to be an artistic bike rider.

With 11 I broke the other arm on my schoolway, also a bike crash.

Then the Volleyball accident happened I mentioned above.

A few years ago I had a motor bike crash (it's a curse, isn't it? 8-| ) and my right knee did hurt for months.

The following year I burned the whole inner surface of my left hand at the exhaust pipe of my motor bike. (Yeah, a curse. *sad* )

I was once in a relay race which was held in a very bad spot. Not enough room to properly run and certainly not the best place to have it as it was on gravel partly. Anyway, in finishing the race I cam e to an area to quickly and had to decide in jumping to avoid a short wall or sliding to quicken my stop. I slid. Thanks to the said gravel my slide turned into a slip with all of my momentum and weight being applied to my left arm which wasn't move the same direction I was. At least not at first. I heard this awful snap noise and noticed my arm felt funny. When I looked down I found to my great surprise that I had added what looked like a second elbow in the middle of my forearm but backwards. Naturally seeing ones arm have a ninety degree angle in a place it shouldn't I did what anyone would due I turned to my nearest family member and said "This isn't good."

Nothing ever broke the skin and I had to wear a cast for the rest of the summer. I still have the plate and four screws and a six inch scar. I had broken may arm in four places. The more interesting side effect though is that in using one arm for everything over a six month period and being force to keep the other elevated for sleeping, swimming, bathing and often general recovery I had developed a funny shape. The muscles in my neck and shoulder on the left side are noticably bigger and those in my right side and chest are bigger.

This is one reason I stuck with LEGO as a hobby versus sports. I have yet to break or cut anything more than a scratch while moccing. ;-)

The first time i ever hurt myself was when i was 7 and i fell out from a moving buses doors, back then buses over here had doors at the back and i was stood up by them but not holding onto anything.

Anyway thankfully the bus was just about to stop and therefore was going very slow, all i did was break my arm which got me some time off school so you see sometimes every cloud has a silver lining :-D

Early childhood injuries are sometimes really ouchy...

When I was five I fell from chair backwards onto a cupboard's ledge -> broke my arm, though this wasn't discovered until five days after that. I don't even remember that much of this incident.

At age 11 or so we arrived for holiday on a northsea-island. I took a ride on my just prepared bike the first day...and fell palms-first onto the graveled path...the skin of my palms was entirely ruptured (both hands) and it hurt like f**k. I don't need to mention the first week of vacation (of 3 in total...) was spent entirely inside the house. Never had such a shitty holiday..apart from that other time, when...that's another story.

Then I had a small fracture of the same finger I cut yesterday from poking my sister (while wrestling around with my her..) about 2 years ago. Went like: POKE -> ouch! -> finger taped for 3 weeks...

My facit: Silly fingers...always getting in the way *wacko* :-P :-D

Laddie, you shouldn't use cutlasses to slice bread otherwise accidents happen like this happen. Next time use a knife!

Well I usually WOULD use cutlasses, falcatas and macheira for cutting my bread, but just yesterday, AS AN EXCEPTION, I used a small wave-bladed bread-knife... Had I had my bih

My list of injuries is not that long (or I just cannot remember that much)!

I just know that I was about 5 or so and my parents (my Dad and some friends) built our house. There was a lot of rubbish and so on. I cutted my thigh at a lid of a can. This gives me a very large scar at my thigh!

An other accident happened at my aunts birthday or so with about 6 1/2. We celebrated there and I fell over the carpet and got onto a stone stair with my chin. Now there is a scar under my lips!

There where a few other injuries where I just fell with the skates and opened my knees and ellbows, but nothing special (though that hurt much).

Some little things happened in the last two years. In my study I work in a chemistry laboratory and so I think you can imagine what THAT means! LOL!!! Salpetrig Acid, Sulfuric Acid and many organic chemicals are not good for the human skin!!! ;-) But thats just life!

Well, I never had a serious fracture, wound or something except when I was 9 or so. Iwas running through a wood, fell and landed with my knee right on some sort of electric wire. The stupid wire was stuck in my knee but I managed to pull it out (it hurted like megablocks, I wasn't drunk ;-) ). It bleeded heavily, but I went home (it took like forever to get home but I got there) then my mum bandaged it. End of story *sweet* .

You lot have some entertaining stories. =P

I managed to *close* the garage door onto my pinky at the age of four. The whole nail came off a few days later. At the age of five, while helping my mother peel potatoes, I skinned my thumb

I have had many injuries. The biggest one happened when I was a child, I was playing on the top of a small hill and then I felt and crashed my head on a rock. Lucky I was ok and out of the hospital 3 days after. The second major one happened when I was about 14 : I sticked a knife accidently into my right arm. As I was alone at home and was afraid my parents to discover this, I did what ricky would have done : I spilled alcohol on it and it burned the tissues. The next day I showed it to my sister who was studying medicine and was sent right to the hospital but there was nothing to do after the alcohol. They only told me I was insane and sent me back home 8-|

And then there were the classics : broken arm, broken legs, brocken hand and broken everything, I was kind of a turbulent kid. If you are lucky, I will also tell you how I managed to burn my entire back *sweet*

One time when I was doing...something I dropped something on my toe, thus causing the whole nail to fall right off.I was four when this happened. Then when I was five I busted my head open.Sadly it hit the part where the memory part of my brain was.It didn't touch my brain, just cracked the skull. That's why some of my memories are gone. How did I manage to bust my head, you may ask?Well it's quite simple,I had had a nightmare and was scared so I went to my mom. Then I was going to my room, but I nver could quite run strait, I seemed to turn.I apparrently had been watching my brother and his friend play Spyro too much so I thought that my head was as hard as Spyro's and that I could charge straitly like Spyro.I tried and...WHAM!, I end up with a busted head.I still have the scar today.

Hmm. Nothing that bad has happened to me... yet. I would say the worst was when I was about eight, and my older brother and I were wresling, and a slammed my head against a corner of a near-by cabinet. I had to wear a head band for like, two weaks. I still have a dent in my head from it, but you can't really tell, because of my hair.

My most severe injury in recent memory happened a few summers ago. I was roller blading with no protection around a badly paved park when I ran into a slightly raised piece of pavement. Ended up having a very sore, horriblely skinned knee, with a nasty scab.

As every kid, I suffered many injuries boating, running, fishing (...) and what have you. Nevertheless I shall tell you my bloodiest story:

I was a kid on vacations in the south of France. I wanted to take my boat to get some fresh mint ice cream at Geo situated in the neighbour port (Port Grimaud). However I forgot to take some money, so I decided to run like crazy back home to take some (my stomach was really demanding this ice cream goodie).

And of course the stupid incident happened while running up those cement stairways in the residence (accidents like that are always stupid). I slipped on something and my face came hiting on full throttle the pointy and hard stairs !! I passed out and woke up litterally in a pool of blood. A guy took me in his arms and brought me to my parents appartment. When my mum opened the door, she nearly fainted, at my bloody sight.

So we rushed at the hospital and I came out with about 11 stiches to saw my arch of the eyebrows - without anesthesia hehe (incredible how that part can bleed). Half a centimeter and I would have lost an eye.

After that incident and a clean t-shirt, we drove to get that ice cream hehe. Mint ice cream finally.

*yoda*

Heh, same here. The scar actually goes through my eyebrow. Well, at least it would've made Phes happy...I would've had to wear an eyepatch :-P
