phoinix Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 does anyone else see that they look very alike or is it just me?.just foun this on the net while searching playmobil stuff..i think the design of there new airport looks very much like the lego one...so this is what they mean by "globalization"!!! (at list they get girls!) Quote
Sir Dillon Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 Yeah, it does. Someone pointed out earlier how much the airplanes look alike. Quote
Athos Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 Have you seen the playmobile Viking Fortress? It looks identical to the Lego one, same octagonal design. Steve Quote
Hobbes Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 A lot of the Playmobil City designs look like the LEGO designs - or vice versa... Problem is: Playmobil was on the market first. And you know what ppl tend to think when shortly after something's in the shelves someone else comes out with similar looking stuff... Quote
Athos Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 Here is a picture of what I'm talking about. It looks almost identical to the prototype fortress and very similar to the final product. Steve Quote
xwingyoda Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 I think its normal that those two well established toy companies look at each other's products and "copies" each other ;-) Its really normal that they have similar themes such as cities, vikings... Playmo is doing a lot better than TLC one one aspect: they keep their great sets for very, very long !! They had Pirates when I was a kid and still do (like city and castles). Nowadays the lifespam of a Lego line is ridicously short !! I think this can have a positive aspect for TLC in the long run. Humm can we expect a pirate revival and Roman theme then ;-) ?? *yoda* Quote
L'Exocet Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Sure, they look a lot alike. But, I think, Lego one has one major advantage: You can redesign, and rebuild it. I actually plan on mocing the Airport 7894 in to something that will resemble more the "classic" airports (6392, 6396 and 6597). And after that, I think I will still have enough parts for something that will be a lot like the Breezeway Caf Quote
snefroe Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 well, there must be some sort of difference because playmo does not only appeal to boys but also girls. Why is that? Quote
xwingyoda Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 One of the main reasons to me is that Playmo offers loads to future mothers ;-) Effectively, girls view Playmo as mini dolls with loads and loads of fun accessories. You do have many Female and kids (both genders) MFs + lots and lots of food, beach and house goodies !! I think that is what Lego is trying to achieve with Jon's favourite theme aka Belville. I think its a good start, but far from being sufficient !! *yoda* Quote
Jipay Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Playmobil offers kids for the female figs, plus accessories dedicated to girls like neckeless and other molded pieces. I think it only serves what most o us think here : lego doesn't appeal to girls because they don't want to. Quote
