You want to check out 8480 Space Shuttle from 1996.

As indicated before allanp said "first set to have 4 motorised functions powered by one motor". The 8868 was released in 1992  However 8480 is an amazing set :)

I have had the old 9V motor (74569) power some quite impressive (power wise) MOC's and official models. In fact the mechanical output power of this motor exceeds the 71427, 43362, and it puts out 86.53% of the mechanical power a small power functions motor.

http://www.philohome.com/motors/motorcomp.htm

Anyway enough of my short but pointless analysis haha, I can not see lego reissuing these old sets due to the motors. They have not made them for ages now and sourcing the motors would probably be a challenge.

I do wish lego would offer PF motors with or without internal gearing down though. Making compressors becomes a very inefficient affair with so much gearing already done :sadnew:

My bad, I read Unimog and then the "first to have".

A great re-edit of an all time classic set!

I'm looking forward to seeing if the unimog will be a worthy successor to the air-claw's crown... I hope so, it looks like it's gonna be a classy set, with plenty of scope for modding!

I have compiled his individual JPG files into a single 14.3-MB PDF file for download

What for ?

If people want to look at this model, they browse BS, and even better, if they want to download it, they use the soft BS Backup.

I mean that uploading the file somewhere in the Internet hides the autorship of the model (in some extent). The guys did a folder where people can look at his work. It's fine. Let people check what he did.

I would not be very pleased to see my work reuploaded like that on such a website.

For example, for my own MOC, I prefer (by far) people to check my vids, to send me PM, etc.

This is the same idea when you present so many models here on EB, before people can even show their own work. If I remember well, a member already told you that about a MOC (and I must say that I would have been upset like him).

On the contrary, I fully agree if you tell me that about 80% of the MOCs you present would never appear on EB if you had not presented them.

So, my point is that you maybe do "too much".

Just my 2 cents. :p

edit : maybe you should run a blog. ^^

I am simply SHARING some of the WORK it takes to compile the HUNDREDS of individual JPG files into ONE, easy-to-read PDF file. I am saving others TIME by not having to spend 1-1/2 hours (like I do) compiling the images. If you don't like my efforts, then don't download them.

MOST people who I've recognized via my Eurobricks posts appreciate the attention (and additional visibility) for their Lego creations. If folks don't want me compiling their JPGs, they can say so (like Mahjqa already did).

I know what is in the folder. And I did not downloaded it cause I do not need it, not because I do not like your efforts.

But that was not my point.

I mean that MOCer appreciate to present their work themself, to get the recognition they deserve in the thread they created. MOCer also appreciate to present their work themself for people to read what they wrote on their own website, etc.

But let's be clear : I do not say to stop everything you do.

Actually, running a blog would feet pretty well to what you do. Don't you think ?

But if you disagree, it's fine. Actually, that was just a suggestion. :sweet:

For what it's worth, I appreciate DLuders efforts to make these files very much. When I am actually duplicating a MOC or making a CAD file of it, I'm often not connected to the Internet and/or I want to be able to scroll through the images much faster than I could on Brickshelf. I usually end up making a PDF myself which takes forever. David's efforts save me a lot of time.

The only downside is that Mega-Upload is blocked at work so I can't download anything until I get home!

Thanks Dluders for compiling my JPG instructions from Brickshelf. :classic:

May I put the link on my BS folder/Mocpages future article, etc?

It is always great honour to be featured on EB.

@ Benny3000: Yes, by all means, place a link to your MOC's PDF wherever you'd like. It's good to know that you don't mind the conpilation of all the photos that you've spent so much time on.

In my 2000+ Eurobricks posts over the past 1-1/2 years, I have been careful to credit the original MOCcer, quoted their words VERBATIM using blue highlighted text, etc. At no time have I presented other people's work as my own. I'm just trying to make it EASIER and FASTER for folks to appreciate other's great work.

I don't want to make a blog (even though Mahjqa and Jetro wanted me to get one long ago). Digging up hidden gems on YouTube, Flickr, MOCpages, Brickshelf, etc. takes time away from creating my own MOCs. There are many days when things are pretty slow here on the Eurobricks Technic Forum -- I'm just filling a vacuum. I don't think anybody can characterize my posts as "junky" and "useless."

For what its worth. I also GREATLY appreciate DLuders work. I mean, I would never spend the time to look through every single posted JPG. But thanks to someone elses SHARED hard work, I can now do what I like to do best...which is of course to recreate great MOC's. Make no mistake...this MOC will forever be known as Benny3000's Studless 8868.

Be careful with your words by the way. Trying to take credit away from a post-processor like DLuders devalues the entire process which allows the rest of us to easily and faithfully reproduce these creations. Would you dare tell Eric (Blakbird) that he shouldn't be posting renderings of peoples MOC's on his brickshelf? Last I checked, DLuders post didn't say "hey guys...look at this sweet model that I have the instructions for". He gives every ounce of credit where it is due.

Back to topic...

@Benny3000 -- Whats with the studded bumpers on a totally studless model? I ask because I intend to build this so if your intent was to pay homage to the original then for that reason alone I will honor it.

I'd hazard a guess that it's because a 1x13 liftarm doesn't exist in White, at least according to Bricklink, so it's the only choice unless you compromise the colour scheme slightly by using a very light bley one.

If you look at the front, you can see that white 1x14 Technic Bricks are used, as in the back. It was supposed to be a tribute to the 8868 origins as a studfull set. When I designed my model, I had no white 1x16 Technic Bricks, so I ordered some. But the Bricklink seller sent me white 1x14, and it was too late to replace them. So I kept the 1x14 and this is what it gave. :classic:

I also think studfull bricks gives a tougher look.

I noticed they were shorter too. But I kind of like it. I also noticed the 8L axles on the original bumper are replaced by 7L axles in yours, which I liked because the light gray color fits better with the white bumper than black. So I thought it was intentional :D

By the way, great model as many have said, so thanks for the construction pictures. And I appreciate Dluders work too, as with the PDF it's now just one file, so only one entry in my already messy digital folder structure :)

Given that M_Longer just recently showed off his 8443 and 8839 studless versions I remembered this model. Did anyone build this that can share the .bsx inventory? Or better yet, Eric, did you build this in CAD?

I'd like to finally build this.

And yes, 5 Years to pull this topic from the grave.

Benny3000's studless Air Tech Claw Rig version is really fine. I have compiled his individual JPG files (from his Brickshelf folder) into a single 14.3-MB PDF file for download from this MegaUpload SkyDrive link.

8868_reproduction_013.jpg

This skydrive link from DLuders is down... Has anybody out there his compiled instruction pics (as pdf)? And may i ask if it would possible to download it from anywhere? This would ne very nice. Then i would build it and present it together wiith the original one.
