Balrog Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 Hi, I know I am new, but that does not stop me from suggesting a new Forum Feature. Some (or a lot) people have very capable smartphones nowadays and surfing the internet with it when they are away from their house or even in their house ;). The usual problem when browsing a forum is, that this usually is kind of slow, because there is a lot of overhead traffic due to the rest of the website. But there is a App for iPhone/Android/Blackberry/Symbian called Tapatalk (www.tapatalk.com) which allows you to solely read/write in forums. The reader version is free and the writer version is paid. This keeps you from having to load the whole website when you just want to check the Forum. Forum integration is completely free as far as I know. This works via a plugin and the Invision Board is supported as well. I'd love to know the opinion of all forum users and admins. Might this be a useful addition to the forum? I do not want to advertise this app or the company behind it. I simply found this app very practical and good to use and use it regularly by now, when I am on my way. Now it is your turn brickpeople ;) cheers Balrog Quote
Big Cam Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 I'll be honest, the tapatalk version of forums sucks. I have an android phone and I've used it before on a different forum. Personally I browse the forum all day on my Motorola Droid and I use the regular full skin. Its only slighlty slower than a computer. That is the point of these phones being so advanced, you can view the full web on them. They do have the option of a lo-fi version which is selectable in the lower left-hand corner of the screen. That option takes all the fancy pictures and skins out of the equation, very similar to tapatalk, and equally as un-gradfying. Quote
Balrog Posted June 30, 2010 Author Posted June 30, 2010 Hey Big Cam, Thank you for the reply. I understand your opinion and it is ok, but I have some points. 1. I could not find such a button that you mentioned. Something like that would be cool. 2. If you have always 3G, the it would be no difference if you use Tapatalk or the Browser. But I live in an area where most places only have Edge. Nor do I have Wifi everywhere I am. I too have a Android phone and browsing the net is superfast. But not on Edge. This is where Tapatalk has a clear advantage, since it does not need to render the Forum itself and load web content. 3. If you do not like Tapatalk, that is ok for me. I personally like it. We should see some other opinions first, I guess. But I fully understand you. And discussing is, what this thread is for. Quote

I hope my previous comment didn't come off as too harsh, I personally just don't like tapatalk, but I agree options are good. The button I'm referring to is towards the bottom and to the left, it likely says "summer" right now and then your choosen language next to it, which I believe the standard is English. If you click the word summer, it brings up a drop down box with different themes, and if you choose lo-fi it's a lo-fi version of the board. Quote
Rick Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 If you click the word summer, it brings up a drop down box with different themes, and if you choose lo-fi it's a lo-fi version of the board. 'Problem' is that it is overridden by theme skins in most subforums. Quote
Big Cam Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 'Problem' is that it is overridden by theme skins in most subforums. Oh, that's weird, when I choose the SW skin, it stays everywhere I go. Sounds like a job for shadows. Edit: nevermind, the sub themes do take over, I must of gone to a subforum with no theme. Quote

aawsum Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 What is the harm to the forum to open it up for tapatalk? I browse multiple forums via tapatalk, and their webmasters activated it within 10 minutes. Besides this it is also free of charge. Can it be discussed between the admins please to enable this ? I would very much appreciate this. Quote
