Ricecracker Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 Hi everyone. It's been a busy few months lately, so I haven't been able to MOC as much as I would have liked. Fortunately, I do have these two MOCs to show you today. MAN Hooklift This was a collaborative build between myself and Psiaki using Skype to discuss the build. It is a hooklift truck based on one used by the Hannover Fire Department. From what I know, hooklift trucks seem to be very popular with European fire services, because of the ability to buy only truck, with many pods. We've built two pods: a mobile command centre, and a water rescue boat pod. The hooklift functions much like real ones. Ford Transit Also very popular in Europe, this type of vehicle (Ford Transit, Dodge/Mercedes/Freightliner Sprinter, Volkswagen Cargo, etc.) take up both the pick-up truck and van segments of the market. These vehicles serve many different uses, and can have a variety of different rear sections. I decided to make mine able to easily accept different rear sections. Sorry for the bad pictures. We've been having bad weather for the last few days. As always, you can view more on my Flickr. Thank you. Quote
lightningtiger Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 G;day 'Ricecraker' nice Ford - interesting use of tiles and slopes to achive the shape of a Transit truck. Now the Man truck is even better, great load/unload mechanism - not bad truck cab/front end too ! Excellent work again and I'm a conformist! 'Ricecracker' I'm a conformist! ! Quote
prateek Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 Great trucks! The crazy SNOT work on both of these models is great, and the hook mechanism is genius! Quote
Rick Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 I really like the hooklift truck a lot. The upside-down half-stud offset chairs used as fenders look great and the striping looks great. They are indeed being used a lot by fire departments here and carry high-capacity pumps, specialized rescue equipment, mobile command posts, big boats, etc. I like the idea for the van. The cabin is a little 'too brick-built' for my taste, but the unavailability of windows is one of the drawbacks of building 5-wide. The front and the fenders look very good though. I like the simple, but accurate back section though. Nice work Ricey! Quote
dr_spock Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 Nice work. Great design on the hooklift truck. They are popular in Europe, not so much here. I think I've seen only one hooklift for a dumpster in Toronto. Quote

I'm glad you like them. The design of the hooklift was designed by Psiaki, so I can't take the credit for that. ;) I really like the hooklift truck a lot. The upside-down half-stud offset chairs used as fenders look great and the striping looks great. They are indeed being used a lot by fire departments here and carry high-capacity pumps, specialized rescue equipment, mobile command posts, big boats, etc. Thank you, Rick! My main part of the build was the cab, so I had fun with the striping and offsets. ;) I like the idea for the van. The cabin is a little 'too brick-built' for my taste, but the unavailability of windows is one of the drawbacks of building 5-wide. The front and the fenders look very good though. I like the simple, but accurate back section though. I know what you mean, but I wasn't sure what else to do. Speaking of the back sections, do you have any ideas for more that I should build? I think I've seen only one hooklift for a dumpster in Toronto. Actually, I think many of the smaller-landscaping ones use hooklift-type systems, with bigger ones using the hoist system. Quote
danim Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Looks very good not seen one in real life but I do know that london fire brigade use one similar, if you would not mind I could post a pic of it Quote

XimenaPaulina Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 Pretty nice trucks Ricecracker! I like the Hooklift better. You got the overall look of the real truck based on the reference pics. And most important of all, the hooklift function is really impressive. Great job! Quote
The Player Nº1 Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 The Ford Transit its so realistic. Congratulations, great work. Regards Quote
