Posted June 29, 201014 yr Maybe it's just me, and I really want King's castle, but does it look like it's Duplo to anyone? It just seems like one solid color of gray with some red thrown in. With not too many pieces making the walls on the sides, they seem really babyish, IMHO. Maybe since I prefer the Dragon Knights, and I think their colors of dark green and dark gray look better and they should control the castle. Does anybody agree with me on this?
June 29, 201014 yr No, it really does not at all, once you have it and look at it in real live. It's simply stunning. Any why should the dragon knight's colours control the color scheme of the lion knight's castle? It is not their castle Edited June 29, 201014 yr by metalandi
June 29, 201014 yr I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with you. This is one of my favorite class. And it didn't feel "junorized" at all when I was building it. I think it actually took me two (2) hours to complete it.

Maybe I was thrown off because of the angle used in the LEGO Shop Magazine catalog I received recently. And about the scheme, I prefer the Dragon Knights over the Lion Knights. I just would rather have a nice big castle for the Dragon Knights in their color scheme instead of one for the Lion Knights. Sort of like how LEGO released a castle for Vladek instead of giving one to the Jelly Belly Patrol. Well, I guess that's what Bricklink is for!! I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with you. Shroffy123, i didn't mean to say the build was <insert that tiresome argument>, but more with those wall pieces and not many system bricks if it seemed to be <insert that tiresome argument>. And how is the building experience? Is it challenging or more laid back and easy, but a long process? I've been building LEGO for years and I'm pretty experienced. June 29, 201014 yr It's just great. The red color gets even better with the Lion minifigs around. It's just an awesome set, and you should get it ASAP.
June 30, 201014 yr I don't have this set, but from the many photos I've seen it's a very good set, apart from the colour scheme. I don't like white+red combinations in LEGO Castle, looks like a hospital to me...
June 30, 201014 yr Actually it's grey, not white. And btw. in reality, hospitals actually aren't white and red Edited June 30, 201014 yr by metalandi

I'm not sure exactly what you're implying as wall panels have been pretty standard since 1984. New or old panels, these will always be '<insert that tiresome argument>' elements. The real difference is that the older panels were larger, more cumbersome and less versatile; all marks of an even more <insert that tiresome argument> element. This is the first castle we've had since the mid 90s that actually featured a proper, working gatehouse and drawbridge. It also is no slouch when it comes to pieces with 933 bricks. Honestly, none of the mainline castle sets have ever really been particularly challenging builds. That being said, it's nice to have a new castle with a proper gatehouse, stairs and towers with doors. The design itself may seem a bit tired given that almost every LEGO castle has used this template (main gatehouse, two back towers), however it is by no means a bad looking castle.
June 30, 201014 yr My personal thinking is that dark green looks terrific. It seems to have more strength than normal red. Maybe I would have preferred dark red + dark grey instead of light, but I find the desing awesome, and its modularity prefect. MAybe TLG would release a larger Dragon Knights fortress. That could be quite interesting.

We can only hope, right? and blueandwhite, the only "Castle" I own is the Citadel of Orlan from KKII. I have many knights, and some towers and siege equipment, but I've never had a true "castle". Maybe that's why I'm slightly picky with this set, as I am really interested in a challenging build.

I do not own Citadel of Orlan, but I own, and just recently built Vladerk's Dark Fortress, and if that is any inclination of the rest of KKII, Kingdom's Castle is a complete 180 in regards to challenge, style and overall greatness. As stated above, I too have never found any of the actual castles to be a challenge (the only castle themed set that was a challenge was the MMV). With that said, the Kingdom's castle took some time to build; having had many small detailed pieces. Try not to compare your castle experience of KKII with the new line (or even fantasy line IMO). If you purchase the new castle, I'm quite sure you'll not only enjoy the build, but the model itself. It may even perk your interest into tracking down all of the older castle models ... Much like the fantasy line brought me out of my dark age, and I found myself collect all the older castle themes I once had, which I sold prior to leave for college so many years ago.

I've actually really wanted Vladek's Dark Fortress and all it's glory, and all the other great Classic Castles, but alas, I don't have the money right now.. would you like to make a donation of some sets? Like before, i want ALL of the old castles, the new one, and a great building experience. So, I think you've finally reconvinced me to buy King's castle. Thanks!
July 1, 201014 yr MAybe TLG would release a larger Dragon Knights fortress. That could be quite interesting. Yes! After all, the HQ of the Dragon Knights - the Prison Tower, their biggest set after all(!!) is about 3 times smaller then the King's Castle. That's not fair! The biggest castles I have are the 6073 and 6075, 6066, 7079 (though these 3 are smaller, medium constructions). I would love to see a Dragon Knights set the size of 6073. July 2, 201014 yr II've been wanting to get this set myself. In fact, I hope to get at least two and make one big castle. I would love to have something large enough to add furniture. I do agree though that Dragon knights need their own.
July 3, 201014 yr Yeah, when building it for the first time this past Tuesday, I felt at times " Why do then need to use this BIG piece?" Being used to building old castles with lots of little 2x1's it felt like Lego was catering to younger audiences. And then the stickers bugged me, as it dawned on me how much I missed printed stones on walls. But after I put it all together, I realized how much I love the design. My only regret is that I didn't get 2!!! I got a 2nd Dragon tower at Half off to make a bigger fortress for them instead of a 2nd castle. I will get another castle to make it a bit larger....Love the set...really do. I reccomend you get two :)
July 4, 201014 yr Author ...or four How about 20?? Anyway, I picked up King's Castle Thursday, and I love it! It's smaller than I expected, but taller than I expected. I'm hoping to pick up a second eventually to make it bigger, but I can't decide on making it taller, or keeping it at the same height but with a bigger base.

It added another dimension to the castle.
July 4, 201014 yr I actually have said castle on my dinning table for my son to play with I feel it's not Duplo-ish at all. The red roofs are brick-built. so too many other components too, yes there are panels, but remember kids are funny people, they want a challenge but also they sometimes lose interest real quick so begins the balancing act of mega-brick-build vs. lots of pre-fab panels. I quite like this castle, it's my first and well, my son loves it too ! I'm a conformist! !

Being used to building old castles with lots of little 2x1's it felt like Lego was catering to younger audiences. I think you're misremembering your old sets' parts. Besides the Yellow Castle, all the other large castle sets have also used "<insert that tiresome argument>" wall panels.
July 5, 201014 yr I wasn't impressed by the initial pics but having built it I do like it a lot more than I thought I would. I actually like the return to the green plates and red slopes instead of having another 'dark' coloured theme (which we had from KK2 2006 and Fantasy 2007-2009). The footprint, whilst smaller than the King's Castle Siege, is actually a lot sturdier and more akin to the large playset size of other castles (like the PoP Alamut set or Trolls Mountain fortress). Unlike the 2007 Castle, this one is properly modular - with 2 sets it is much easier to expand the side walls, for example, than having to dismantle sections of the castle which don't connect properly. It is also strong enough to carry around without bits falling off. The gatehouse looks fab and the drawbridge and portcullis mechanism work brilliantly (the portcullis is especially clever). Yes, it would look better with a detailed interior but that's what the Advent Calendar is for! The only sore points are the sticker overload and crappy print quality on some of the figs/ accessories, but that's hardly news to anyone buying LEGO for the last 5 years. I would recommend this set over the 2007 King's Castle Siege, for sure!

I quite like this castle, it's my first and well, my son loves it too ! I'm a conformist! ! Ah yes, I remember my days as a child. I wasn't a good builder, (mostly slow) even with instructions. Luckily, I had my big brother to help me build the sets while I played with the minifigures. In fact, my "sigfig" was designed by him. Now he's lost interest in Lego, so I have all of his old sets . Back on topic, I think sometimes those panels are cheaper to produce than a bunch of little bricks, just like how they put random shades of tan, blue and red on the inside of several sets, like the 2008 Republic Attack Gunship, or the Prince of Persia Battle of Alamut (blue, inside the stairs to the palace). Overall, I think the King's Castle looks great. Now I just need to get it. -Santhor
July 5, 201014 yr This set reminds me alot of the the crown knights castle set I bought a few years back. It even has the same detachable design, but seems to be a little smaller.
July 5, 201014 yr I wish I had a camera to take pictures, but I added two of the outpost attack towers to the castle; one on the tower, and the other on the back of the castle. It added another dimension to the castle. Dude, if you could take a pic or 2 that would be helpful. Don't have that set and didn't plan on getting it, but depending on how 1 castle looks with them, maybe I'd do that and then 6 more Prison Carts. No, 4 is too big for me...2 will be just right. I was thinking of The Old Kings Castle..that I have and the Knights Castle...yes they had the wall pieces, but no stickers or other large parts. I'm not bashing the set, I LOVE it.
