July 25, 201014 yr It would be amazing if they came back, but I think that Klaus is right that it will not be next year, because of the double header of historical themes with Pirates of the Caribbean and Kingdom, however I do believe that at some point they will make a return. After all, some people back in the 90's thought pirates would never come back too All that I know for sure is that when they come back I'll be right there waiting
July 29, 201014 yr Now I remember that TheBrickster mentioned somewhere some time ago that there were rumours that Playmobil is going to release a Mexican theme in 2012. And since it's not seldom the case that Playmobil and Lego release similar themes in one and the same year, perhaps we've got the luck to get a new Western theme in 2012. I really hope so! Btw: For those who haven't already joined, please take part in the Petition to bring back the Western theme - thanks. Klaus-Dieter Edited July 29, 201014 yr by Klaus-Dieter
August 1, 201014 yr Now I remember that TheBrickster mentioned somewhere some time ago that there were rumours that Playmobil is going to release a Mexican theme in 2012. Yes - I heard a rumor about it on a Playmobil forum. Not sure if it's true, but I would look forward to such a theme. You never know, LEGO could make one as well.
August 2, 201014 yr I really hope so, TheBrickster! Very likely my petition and our report to TLG last Sept./Oct. was - although there was a huge agreement amongst many Lego fans in this and in other forums - too late for planing a Western theme already in 2011. TLG very supposably already had bought the license for Pirates of the Caribbean and the other new theme (?NinjaGo) was already decided to be released in 2011, too. But they now had and still have enough time to develop some great Western sets for 2012. Let's hope! Klaus-Dieter Edited August 2, 201014 yr by Klaus-Dieter
August 11, 201014 yr It has one of the smaller followings among Historic themes, sadly. I think this is due to the fact there were only two years of new Western set releases, not counting the re-releases. There were many unused set-ideas. If I think of the Wild West I know from movies, there are at least two important things: a saloon and a steam locomotive with a cow catcher, 2B or 4-4-0 axle configuration, well, you get the picture. I think the Indians subtheme couldn't last long at all, since I don't see many really new set ideas, but that can be a lack of imagination from my side. Whatever the chances for a long theme were, Western or Wild West was discontinued after a while, with far less sets released than Castle or Pirates. Pirates returned for a while last year, Castle was never completely gone (although the Power Ranger knights from KK2 seems very unpopular). I think this all contributes to the fact that you don't see as many Western MOCs as Castle or Pirate ones (but still there are some fabulous Western ones). If a total Western theme won't be released, I hope for exclusive sets. Sets at the size of Cafe Corner, Green Grocer and the others, but in a Western setting.
August 16, 201014 yr Well, we don't need Lego to release more western sets, we just need to make more western MOCs!! I've been on a tan bricklink buying spree lately and currently planning a collaborative large (6x12) western display for early 2011, but you'll have to be in Australia to see it (in person at least)... Planning the mocs now and will put on my Flickr page (and Lego Old West group) and Eurobricks as I make them. DrRod aka Intrastella :)

(As I wasn't able to pick up any western sets ) 3 are you allowed to use Brickarms within the build or are BA only for the MCW? Edited October 31, 201014 yr by dragunov

Plenty of users post them and many use "Western" in the thread title somewhere, so you might try searching for that. If you want to look beyond EB, there's a Western group on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/groups/westernlego/ 2. Here are some figs I made with various torsos. Let me know if you'd like to know more about any of them: Themes, left to right: Harry Potter, Adventurers, Harry Potter, Speed Racer, Speed Racer Speed Racer, Harry Potter, Adventurers, Adventurers I've actually got more, but those are the only ones I've photographed, sorry. 3. I sure do. They've even got a derringer and a lever-action rifle in prototype stages! Edited November 11, 201014 yr by Carbohydrates

January 26, 201114 yr Anybody know something about these guys? I've heard these were prototypes, but Wonder why they were never released?
January 26, 201114 yr Anybody know something about these guys? I've heard these were prototypes, but Wonder why they were never released? I saw that on brickipedia about two years ago. They were supposed to be bison, but they were never released.
January 27, 201114 yr I saw that on brickipedia about two years ago. They were supposed to be bison, but they were never released. I wonder why, this would also be a great add for the animal kingdom of lego
January 27, 201114 yr I think the buffalo figure looks great. I very much wish these were made. Maybe, in some deep dark corner in Billund, the mold for these is waiting to be reawakened. We do know that 2 protos were made. I won't hold my breath, but it would be great. After all, every zoo needs a bison. And my wild west MOC's could use dozens. Maybe BrickForge would consider making something similar? The napoleonic theme from the same source would have been fun for AFOL's like us but not as much for kids. Ahab out...

Maybe BrickForge would consider making something similar? I completely agree with you, AhabDarab! These bisons look ! I really hope that if TLG brings back the Western theme, bisons or buffalo will be included since they're such an important and concise part of the Wild West. The Western MOCs which appear from time to time here on EB, our discussion about WW sets and MOCs, the general like of kids to play Indians, sheriffs and cowboys, our many ideas for new Western sets, our report and petition (which was even sent to TLG), agreements of ambassadors of other forums and finally the people's choice for a huge Western diorama in a Lego exhibition in Australia really shows that people are (still) interested in Lego Western. And I even really hope that TLG draws a conclusion out of this. That they engaged BrickMiner might be a hint for us getting some new WW sets in the next year(s). But of course that doesn't say anything since they do not need one graphic designer for only one theme which then even would only be there for one til three years. Next year it'll be 15 years ago that the last WW set was released. So that would be the perfect timing for starting a new Western theme. In the first wave/year mainly cowboy oriented sets should be released (since I bet that kids are the most interested in these), in the second wave/year soldiers and in the third wave/year Indians. I luckily own all the Western sets from the ninetees. But there's still that much missing - mainly a saloon, a stage coach with post office, a Wild West farm and a Western train with train station. So let's hope! Klaus-Dieter Edited January 28, 201114 yr by Klaus-Dieter
January 29, 201114 yr If they bring back the western theme they will include the bison 100% surely! This reminds me of the skeleton horses from the fantasy theme; I saw a picture of a skeletal Lego horse figure in trans clear in early 2004, and wondered whether or not it was a sham. It didn't appear the next year, or the next year, but in 2007 they were introduced in white an in black for the fantasy era skeletons! I believe we may be seeing a similar item here; something released a little ahead of the game. KD I can guarantee you your wish will come true, another western theme is waiting for the right time to emerge once we've been fed up with castles, pirates and mummies Edited January 29, 201114 yr by Sirens-Of-Titan
