BillytheKid Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 (edited) Name: Atlantis Exploration HQ Set No.: 8077 Theme: LEGO / LEGO Action Theme Year: 2010 Pieces: 356 Minifigs: 3 Price (when it was in stores): USD 50$ (which equals about EUR 50€) Today I'm a proud owner of this set. It would be a nice project of mine town to do some research in the sea. Let's first see the box and it's contains. Click on pic for bigger one Click on pic for bigger one Click on pic for bigger one Click on pic for bigger one Lets see the minifigs which come with this set. Two members of the diving team and one Manta Warrior. Click on pic for bigger one And one little minisub to defend the laboratory. Click on pic for bigger one The foundation where the sub can park, where it can be a laboratory. Click on pic for bigger one Click on pic for bigger one Finally I could start with the sub itself. Click on pic for bigger one Here you can see the interior of the sub itself. Click on pic for bigger one Arrived a bag number 3. Click on pic for bigger one The first weak design of this set. The front motors aren't connected strong to the sub. Click on pic for bigger one The sub can defend itself form monsters, but it can only shoot 4 times. The harpoons need to be reloaded outside again. Click on pic for bigger one The front of the sub is getting shape. Click on pic for bigger one These pieces are new to me. Maybe already seen in other sets, but for me it's THE piece for this set. Click on pic for bigger one The new pieces are used to hold the trans-bright green cylinder hemisphere 4 x 4 . Click on pic for bigger one The end of the building is near. Only the long stickers are hard to apply nicely. Click on pic for bigger one The building is completed now. Click on pic for bigger one Now lets see the set itself around the clock . Click on pic for bigger one Click on pic for bigger one Lets see what it looks like when you open the sub, to transform in a laboratory. Click on pic for bigger one Click on pic for bigger one This is the front of the laboratory when placed on its own foundation, which must be on his place first before diving with the sub. Click on pic for bigger one And offcourse the inside of the laboratory itself. Click on pic for bigger one I hoped you enjoyed this review as much I did, while making it. I'm gonna use it for my town while they still build it. Mine town what to explore the ocean floor. Just in case, the sub will be equiped with some weapons, just in case. The divers won't know it, but they will encounter monters around here and need more than the installed weapons. Soon they have to ask help form the powerminers which need to fight against them. I will make pic's of that later. For now, I'm finish this review. Rating: Color scheme: 8/10, looks very good. Minifigs and accessories: 6/10, to mine opnion it could have more minifigs. Pieces: 8/10, Very good, only a same they used bionicle pieces. Playability: 9/10, for a child I think it has a lot of fantasy for playing a lot of adventures. Design: 6/10, it could have been a little bigger and a room for changing the dive gear. I can't believe they stay many days in the same dive gear. Overall rating: 9/10, design could have been better and the use of bionicle pieces . More minifigs would have been better for playability. The final words: Smaller than some of today's promos, but no worse. Edited November 25, 2010 by AFOL12v Quote

XxX Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 (edited) thanks man!!! I agree, there is no stands/room for their big diver helmets and flippers, that's where Aquaraiders and many other underwater themes got the best of Atlantis. Thanks again great review!!! Edited July 7, 2010 by XxX Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Great review AFOL12v. The set seems interesting due to the lab-ship transformation, but I guess I'm not just that into Atlantis so I'm gonna pass on this one. Quote
beans Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 This set looks waaaay better as a laboratory than a sub. The vehicle form just looks way too blocky to imagine as a submarine. Nonetheless, those green domes will certainly come in useful for MOCing! Quote
Aanchir Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Technically, it didn't use BIONICLE pieces. While BIONICLE was one of the first uses of the new style of TECHNIC panels, they're more TECHNIC than anything else. Glad this set was enjoyable! I personally look forward to getting this set, even though it's not necessarily at the top of my list (and my family's trying to be frugal this year, so unsure if I'll be getting things other than the things I'm certain about like Hogwarts Castle or the Shuttle Adventure). Smack Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Thanks for the review of this set. I am a proud owner now and actually really like it a lot. I agree that a couple more minifigs (another diver or two and more Mantas) should be included. But for the price you really can't expect more I guess. Quote
Fires-storm Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 (edited) I bought this set for the heck of it, and actually got it for 20 bucks instead of 50 because of the members sale the stores were having! I loved this set so much it actually inspired me to buy three typhoon turbo subs when I originally wasn't going to buy any Atlantis at all Thanks so much for the review, this brings back fond memories Edited July 28, 2010 by Fires-storm Quote
Plastemaurer Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Thank you for that nice review. It makes me want this set even more. I think that it looks better as a lab, too. Quote
sharky Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 As a constant Lego bargain hunter I found this set at my local Walmart for $35. At roughly $0.07/piece it was a must buy at that price. BTW, the box states the piece count is 473 not 356. I plan to get some Atlantis 8072 Sea Jets and some 30042 Mini Sub kits to go along with this set. Quote
