Living in the small country of Denmark, one gets used to a lot of things being unavailable. Some stuff like DVD's or books you have to order from Amazon, and so on.

But with Lego I expected things to be different. Sadly it is not.

The online Lego shop is no help (if you live in Denmark the 7712 Supernova is not available).

Amazon.com cannot ship it outside USA.

Toys'R'Us in Denmark have never heard of the Supernova and their computer claims that they will NOT be getting it.... :-(

Getting this model may not be all-important to me, but I just don't understand what they have to gain by not selling it online to danish customers. Also, it gets my goat that there is stuff I cannot get even though I live in the country of origin.

I am sure it will be available via SAH soon ;-) It is not yet available in France mind you hehe !!

So patience !!

I would not trust TRU employees, they are not Lego allmighty :-P (at least in France !!)

I shall move this topic to the BSTF forum ;-)

it's quite simple really, lego is no longer a danish company. Denmark is no longer a privileged market for the company, it's just in the periphery of Europe, their main market... :-( :'-( X-O *sing*

Their main market are the USA actually. It makes me wander why they are still located in Denmark ?

They should move to the USA and let another company take care of the European market X-D

Yeah - I was hoping that maybe someday it would pop up somewhere. Maybe in the special Lego store or in the Legoland store...

Sorry for posting this the wrong place :-) I'm still new to this forum.

And though stuff like this is annoying - Lego is still the best "toy" *wub*

hehe, i like your theory, perhaps we should ask them if we can just take over here in Europe and let them worry about the US :-P

lucky for us, Europe IS by far lego's main market, based on sales of 2002 and 2003 in the financial report of 2003. if you take the new structure into account (only two market sectons in the world) we're even bigger...

the reason why everybody thinks the US is the main market is because US culture dominates the world; it's become practically impossible to sell anything non-US in the US. Take movies, for instance, what turns a film into a monster success or just a very good success worldwide, is the way the US market responds to a film. a film of "Tintin" for instance, would never sell in the US, so why bother to get a lego-license for it? "Smurfs" wouldn't sell either... it's so much easier to sell a US-based product like spiderman or batman in the rest of world, (the easy market) than to sell a non-US based product in the US (a very difficult market);

Basically, it means lego is trying to get very good sales in the US and she makes it easy on herself by producing US-based products. that way she increases her chances in the US, and Europe just has to follow, and to keep Europeans happy, they'll even produce "vikings" in order to defend her market share in Europe; it's quite clever, really...

You wouldn't have to, Denmark is not in the UK.

As for the US being the main market for Lego, well.. what are they not the dominating market for? The are financially the largest market in the world, so why do you wonder that this weakening European company goes there?

As for Lego and their future plans, the European market should not be forgotten especially with the move to the Chinese factory and increased sales in the US. I am sure people will never forget the history of Lego and the fact that it was created in Denmark (unless they delete this page off Lego.com ) and so Billund may become a pilgrimage in the future?

I think my post has little relevance to the Supernova not being in Denmark.. but hey! That's what EB is all about!

IMHO the Supernova should appear in Europe by July this year in ToysRUs-Shops ( in Denmark, too ).

The release-dates of themes are varying in fact of legos marketing strategy.

It's too bad that europe has to wait for some very nice sets longer than the USA.

Lego just sold some parts of itself:

- all LEGOLAND-Parks are now "Blackstone Capital Partners"

- KOMPAN A/S was sold

- some Faktories, Buildings and Planes

But was not sold completely...so it's still a danish company :-)

Is this a big deal?

Sets are frequently released in one market first. The Exo Force line seems more in tune with the American market than it does with the European one. Many sets are released in Europe before reaching North America, and some sets never actually come to this side of the pond. It works both ways, and I don't see it changing anytime soon. The Airport and the KKII maxifigs still aren't available through Shop@home for US or Canadian customers.

The fact is, Europe and North America are very different places, with different consumers. The fact that you may not get a certain store-exclusive Exo Force set is hardly surprising. Not every set makes it to both sides of the pond. This is nothing new.

Later.

Thanx - now we just need ToysRus to figure this out X-D

Also, I know that Lego has sold of some parts - but in my heart Lego will always be danish.

In response to the various people who said "whats the big deal" or "so what...": It is the principle of the thing. I would like to be able to buy ANY and ALL sets Lego produce. Maybe not in my local toyshop, but at least in the Lego online shop or through the special Lego-shops. I fail to see what Lego have to gain by excluding customers from buying certain sets online. I can see logistic issues, but if I really wanted to pay shipping & tax and buy stuff from say Amazon US - where is the harm in that?

I read in another thread, that Spongebob would not come out in France... again I think that is okay, in the sense that if they don't think they can make money of the squarepanted little fellow there... thats fine. But why go the extra mile and prohibit the same people from buying it online.

Well - better stop my rant here :-P before I turn all blue... I hope that you are right and we will all get option to buy all the sets somehow.

right ! S@H would have a lot to do with shipping to other countries in combination with dealing with various setprices ( 7700 in germany-s@h: 14.99 € != 7700 in USA-s@h: 14.99 USD )

So here comes the community:

If someone in the USA is willing to be the shipping-address for an USA-s@h-order of an european forumuser and would resend the parcel to him..and the other way around, that would be great.

As I mentioned before, I've ordered the 7012 this way and t's on it's way to germany right now ... *sweet*
