Catarino Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 (edited) Hello there! So here's my latest, done for a contest at my LUG. The theme was single wheeled vehicles and I came up with this thing: "Mobile Lab Platform Explorer - Used to explore the conditions of new planets to be colonized. It is equiped with a lab with all sorts of equipment to determine the conditions of the planets. It is able to accommodate 2 scientists for long periods of time." Check the video as this one is Power Functions Controlled! ;) >>>>>>>VIDEO<<<<<< Here are the links for the galeries: Flickr or Brickshelf So? What do you think? Edited July 9, 2010 by Catarino Quote
ProducePrincess Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 Pretty neat The body of it kinda reminds me of a boat with that blue bottom and white top ,whitch is a nice look for an exploring vehicle. How is it's balance though? It looks like it stands decently because it's bottom heavy but does it tip with a tap? Quote
Decale Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 That's just awesome Catarino! How did you do this wheel? The whole thing looks very robust and stable on the video. Quote
Catarino Posted July 9, 2010 Author Posted July 9, 2010 @Black Rabbit If you check the entire post there's a link to the video of this thing working with Power Functions ;) It is pretty stable I think! :) @Decale: The ring is done with bricks plates and tiles 1x2! Try it! You will see that it is quite soft when it gets big and then you just have to bend it until you get the ring :) Quote
SirWacky Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 Very nice! I love the wheel, Very well done! Keep it up! Quote
CMP Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 This made me laugh. It's like half a Haailfire Droid. Nice MOC. Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 Now that's AWESOME 'Catarino' while also being one of the most interesting designs I have seen in a while. In fact I've can not recall any sci-fi flick or tv series using anything like this, except in the original cartoon series of Speed Racer, but it was it as big as this. I'm a conformist! 'Catarino' I'm a conformist! ! Quote
SirWacky Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 In fact I've can not recall any sci-fi flick or tv series using anything like this, except in the original cartoon series of Speed Racer, but it was it as big as this. Think General Grievous wheel bike made 50 times bigger and heavily modified Quote
Apollo Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 I am truly out of words. Despite how simple the concept is, that itself is one of the most ingenious creations I have ever seen. It is almost Cyber Punk in nature, as I can see a Steam Punk artist with the same concept! I truly love the design of the wheel and it's function to transport the vehicle; I can see this mode of exploration being used (though not on coarse or rocky planet surfaces ), like a possible breakthrough in transportation or in an Arthur C. Clarke novel. Brilliant concept and creation, my friend Quote
Minifig Lecturer Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 Single wheeled! Very clever, nice work! Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Yay! I love how you build that circle, certainly most impressive! And the concept is really unique. Fantastic work! Quote
evildead Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Excellent construction! In my point of view, you've already won the contest! Quote
Catarino Posted July 11, 2010 Author Posted July 11, 2010 @dr_spock: It doesn't! :) Thanks to all for the nice comments! This MOC as even been blogged by BrothersBrick! Wow!!! LINK @lightningtiger: "I'm a conformist! 'Catarino' I'm a conformist!!" I will surely do! Quote
Sandy Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Clever! Now it just needs some kind of stabilizers so that the hull wouldn't rock like that when it moves. Poor minifig, he must be horribly motion-sick! Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 This MOC as even been blogged by BrothersBrick! Not to mention being font-paged here on Eurobricks! Quote
prateek Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Great job! Just make sure it doesn't fall off your table Quote
CP5670 Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Cool idea, and the whole thing balances itself surprisingly well. Quote
Teh Stud Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 What a great idea, and very well constructed! Nice work. The MOC is beautiful. Quote
greg3 Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Brilliant!! The wheel looks great as it moves and I love the design of the lab part too!! A really unique looking MOC... (good luck in the comp) Quote
Catarino Posted July 11, 2010 Author Posted July 11, 2010 @The Brickster: Yeah! @prateek: Almost did when I was shooting the videos! Once again thank you so so much! I'm totally overwhelmed with the feedback I'm getting with this MOC in such a short time. Just Wow! Quote
