Can someone tell me whats going on? Is brickset wrong? Is there a part that counts for the "part count" but doesn't show up in the inventory? Did I get my inventory above wrong?

Or if anyone has a 100% confirmed correct inventory for this set, that would do as well.

Trying to get a 100% correct inventory for this set as I am parting it out with a few friends and need to be sure that I have buyers for every piece before I jump in.

Is one part really going to make that much difference for buyers? I can't believe you did that whole list just to track down one part.

Brickset pulls its parts counts off S@H, which lists it as 669. The currently pending inventory on Bricklink, however, agrees with you.

Maybe you should ask LEGO. Call them up and start reading them your list

Well the inventory at the back of the manual doesn't count spares, for one, so that may account for some discrepancy.

The official part count does not count spares either, not on any set I have seen.

Are you sure the instructions have every part in the set in the inventory? Once in a while they don't, or at least from what I have observed.

Could it be that the instruction sheet is a part? Add it in, you get your missing part.

668 bricks + 1 instruction sheet.

The Shop.Lego.com website http://shop.lego.com/product/?p=7938&LangId=2057&ShipTo=US lists the correct parts count at 669.

The instruction manual or sticker sheet doesn't normally count in the "parts count" on Shop @ Home (or Brickset which uses Shop @ Home numbers). And in any case this set has 4 books (one for the front car, one for the middle car, one for the back car and one for the platform/signal)

Well, I would part out whatever you've got -- folks are eager for this stuff! The possible "missing" part(s) may be some inconsequential 1x1 round plate or some other tiny part that is easy to get.
