Cookie0879 Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Just read through the entire topic, very very nice what you've done with what to me looked like such a limited set at first (8271). I'll have to go out and get myself one now Does your imagination ever fail you? Seems like you come up with new models faster than we can keep reading. Quote
grohl Posted August 2, 2011 Author Posted August 2, 2011 (edited) Thank you very much. 8271 was really not a set I wanted to buy, but it was the first LEGO I got from my girlfriend. To show her how much that meant to me, I started creating alternates. I started working on alternate #30 few days ago, but there is not always time or there are other projects as Technic Challenge or Czech LEGO Ship Racing. I am working on my first MOC inspired by a computer game. If you would like to see its chassis in action or WIP photos, you can check my Youtube or Facebook page. Believe it or not, my imagination works still fine, but my hands and sometimes LEGOs fail me. The solution of the problem in LEGO is too big for a MOC or the parts do not exist in the correct colour but that does not happen often. Edited August 2, 2011 by grohl Quote
grohl Posted August 5, 2011 Author Posted August 5, 2011 (edited) Finally the folder with the SCRAPER has been made public. Here is the gallery. Last week I measured the Barracuda's speed and although I think it was not going its maximum speed through the whole measured distance, the result was three times the same. 12.7kph Edited August 5, 2011 by grohl Quote
captainmib Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Grohl, you are an excellent builder. I tried to built your sea harrier from the parts of 8258 (and some older technic lego) but did not complete it. (i do not own enough universal joints, only the 2 from 8258 ) I substituted the outlet-system with a gear system. One thing i noticed though is that the front needs an extra beam for more stiffness. It's a bit wobbly (i think). (will try to upload pictures later) Overall the sea harrier is really cool, excellent job and thanks for sharing... Quote

Can you post me the link for the exact step or somehow mark the place in the picture? I think that the most fragile part of it were the wings and not the front. Thank you. Quote
captainmib Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 Well, it could be because of the use of other parts At stap 59 I had to work something out, because i do not own 41678 and 32291 But i think there could fit a 1x15 beam at stap 368 above the grey 48989 the seat and frontpart should be fit differently, but whould make it a bit stronger. Just my opinion though. For the wings i use the system posted here to make it stronger. You can adjust it to have the same angle you have with your system... Quote
grohl Posted August 18, 2011 Author Posted August 18, 2011 Instructions for the scraper available, just click the picture. @captainmib I could not use the system from Pilatus to make the wings stronger. It would not fit there. Quote

DLuders Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 (edited) On MegaUpload Skydrive, I compiled the 192-photo Building Instruction steps (plus the 28 pictures of the completed model) into a single, 14.8-MB PDF file for download here. All of the pages are numbered. One can flip rapidly through the pages to see the construction details. @ Grohl: I really like your 8071 Scraper. Out of curiosity, when you create these types of "alternate builds" for Lego Technic sets, do you always construct your INITIAL idea, or do you have to try various vehicle types before you can finalize an alternate model? How many hours (or days) of trial-and-error does it usually take to use almost all of the parts available in a particular Technic set? Edited February 8, 2012 by DLuders Quote

I think I might have to build this one. It is such an excellent alternate, and such an unusual topic. Quote
technicmad Posted August 21, 2011 Posted August 21, 2011 "But Wait, There's More!" Grohl's outstanding Sea Harrier Mk.1 photo-sequence Building Instructions ( http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=420794 ) have all been compiled into this single 21.5-MB PDF file which you can access from MegaUpload. I have added the Sea Harrier to the Rebrickable database Thanks Grohl! Quote
technicmad Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 I have also now added the Monster Truck part of the Heavy Transport MOC :) Quote

grohl Posted September 27, 2011 Author Posted September 27, 2011 (edited) Due to some problems with bricklink orders and other activities it took me a bit longer to complete this: M35 MAKO An APC based on the MASS EFFECT computer game series. (You have already seen larger one from a Czech TFOL malyMech) Length: 325mm Width: 150mm Weight: 854g Propulsion: 1M motor for all wheel drive without differentials Steering: 1M motor Turret rotation: 1 Micro motor Working gun Opening side doors Working headlights Pendulous front axle Pendulous rear suspension arms GALLERY Photos of the MAKO from the game Edited September 27, 2011 by grohl Quote
bord4kop Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 (edited) Great work again there Grohl! The aesthetics and colors of your models are always so good, spot on (is this the right word/expression?). Nice to look at and nice 'hidden' functions, e.g. features  Edited September 27, 2011 by bord4kop Quote

Zerobricks Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Another great alternative, Grohl! And 2 models at once! Quote
Dutch_EE Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 I agree, a great alternative. One question, how do you operate the LA that extends/folds the tail ? Quote
grohl Posted October 5, 2011 Author Posted October 5, 2011 I agree, a great alternative. One question, how do you operate the LA that extends/folds the tail ? From the top by a 20t bevel gear and the people with bigger hands can easily lift up the light grey structure that covers it. Thanks to both of you for the feedback. Quote
Jurgen Krooshoop Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 (edited) Your alternative models just keep amazing me. I think I've fallen in love with that Helicopter Edited October 5, 2011 by Jurgen Krooshoop Quote
