Love hearing all these ideas. When I used to work in the office I used to sketch down ideas for some Avatar sets and minifigures in my free time. It was fun thinking of possibilities for this license. It's sad that LEGO went with Spongebob, which after seeing its run I can say that I feel that it was pretty bad. So many remake sets for such a short run. Spongebob is great and all but Avatar had a world, and a big one at that! So many buildings could be made or Fire Nation vehicles. I came up with some ideas for the tank but never got to try it yet. I honestly believe that the Avatar line was pushed out because LEGO believed in Spongebob's popularity but the Spongebob universe just doesn't create sets! Avatar could create a longer running product do to the size of the fantasy world, much like Star Wars did. And also Avatar hit the same age audience that LEGO normally targets, young boys. I believed it was just poor marketing; I think Avatar didn't even have a commercial like the Spongebob sets did. LEGO missed an opportunity here. Ranting aside , here's some of my old sketches that I was talking about earlier.

You can see Zuko sporting the Hockey armor which I though looked closer to the actual design in the show. I also drew Iroh with the “pot-belly” knight armor to give him a fatter look (I’m surprised to see someone else thought of this too).I actually worked on the Toph design, the face and body are completed but just recently I wanted to... "refreshen" the look for the Avatar line by adding some shadows in the clothing like how LEGO does now. However, I would keep the style of the faces. I believe LEGO hit the right balance of "anime eye" to face with this short lived line.

Okay, that's it for me for now :classic:.

Wow. Great sketches.:thumbup: The hockey armor would look kind of better, yes.

I think that modified Zurg "armor" will be great on Zuko.

Didn't you pay any attention to Sokka in The Siege of the North Part 1? "The Fire Nation doesn't wear shoulder spikes anymore. The newer uniforms are more streamlined!"

Zurg's shoulder armor don't have spikes.

Zurg's shoulder armor don't have spikes.

Check again. They're small, and not very sharp, but they set it apart from Fire Nation armor. Besides, I like the simplicity of the hockey armor. It allows for more detailed printing at a lower price.

Granted, I never minded the thicker armor for him. Minifigs don't need to have exact proportions-- their bodies are square! I never got any Avatar sets, and thus never owned a Zuko figure, but someone was selling them last year at Brickfair so I got a really good look at one.

that is your definition. just because it lasted 2 years doesn't mean it's any good by any means. here's one very simple conclusion involving just pure money and desirability. see how many EF sets selling on BL for 2x or higher msrp and compare that with other regular lego theme. even when stock is limited (only available from 2-3 sellers), clearing the sets has been difficult. you still regularly find TLC using EF sets for speed-building contests.

That's absolutely no indication as to how well a theme did, though. E-F selled well - well enough to continue for a few years. It perhaps had less popularity among AFOLs, but was still a pretty profitable line for Lego for the first two years at least. It's also silly to be talking about whether a theme is 'good' - that's subjective, obviously, but also has nothing to do with how well the theme sold. To 'tank' means to sell badly - and it sold well.
