Shall we ever get an AFOL Sci-Fi set?

This is a great topic and one which I've actually been thinking about lately. Personally I'm starting to get a bit bored with the Star Wars theme, so I've dug out all of my childhood clasic space sets and reassembled them. Anyhow, in a perfect (and unrealistic!) world I'd love to see a UCS style Minbari Sharlin class cruiser or a Narn heavy cruiser (both from Babylon 5). Lightning Tiger also mentioned earlier about Battlestar Galactica sets - I'd love to see these as well (Hee Hee - as a kid I once took too my green baseplates with a pair of sissors and cut them into a battlestar shape ).

However more realistically (possibly) I'd like to see a large classic space style starship, followed up by some sort of space base - also in the classic space style. It could be characterised by:

- A minium of large moulded pieces.

- Baseplates!! Particulary ones like 454-1: Two Lunar Landing Plates (the younglings could use them in their Clone Wars MOCS!)

- Emphasis upon exploration rather than conflict. Although the ship would still be well armed - sort of the 'we won't start it, but by gosh we'll finish it' phillosphy.

- Transparent yellow pieces

- Focus upon build rather than play features. The Space Police 3 set #5974 : Galactic Enforcer was a nice ship. But as Artanis I noted earlier re. the jail pods - "they stand out like an arm coming out of your stomach".

- openable cockpits

Anyhow these are some of my own personal thoughts. If I saw a set like this on the shelves, I know I would break my 'don't pay full price for a set' rule! Cheers.

As someone who refuses to pay the "Lucas Tax" on the starwars sets and someone who owns a boat-load of old Space stuff (Classic Space, Futuron, Blacktron 1, Ice Planet), I would LOVE to see an AFOL space set (not interested in the shuttle adventure because it just doesn't feel "real" to me without all the NASA logos and stuff)

I think a "Blacktron 3" base using the Space Police 3 bad-guy Blacktron torso (as others have suggested) would be GREAT (especially if it contained bits in black and/or trans-yellow that are otherwise hard to get in those colors)

But since such a set would take money away from overpriced starwars sets, I doubt it will happen :(

I think the last time any really GOOD space set appeared was with the Star Justice (which is a GREAT set)
