Skafte Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 these are the pictures they used and the droid head is too big Just for fun, I did some math (I never thought I'd say that sentence, let alone write it!). On my screen , the JSF is 208mm long on the drawing and 209mm in the LEGO pic. The droid heads are 12 and 15mm, respectively. This means that the droid head is 5,8% of the overall length "for real" and 7,1% in LEGO. A 3 stud dome would be 5,3% (11mm) and therefore better to scale, but still too small. In "perfect" scale it should be 12,1mm, but I don't think LEGO is about to construct a 3,27 stud dome in the near future. They already had the mold for a 4 stud dome, and we don't know if they plan to make another UCS (or whatever) in 2011 where one of those fits even better. A 3 stud dome would be a great piece, but that would make this set even more expensive, and that is what we are most upset about, right? Sorry for the rant and all the math and miscalculations. I look forward to discussing this set when we all have built it! Quote
Brickdoctor Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Nah. Made perfecr sense. The obvious solution would have been to increase the size of the set ti match that of the dome, thus making it to scale, including more pieces, and make more people happy. Quote
cavegod Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 and they do make a 3 dome otherwise i must have imagined it when i used one in my JS Quote

And at 1500 or so pieces, it would be another UCS too big for many to afford. I think LEGO has more to consider than we know of! cavegod, which set du you mean by JS? This one? Has it got a new 3x3 dome in it? Quote

Skafte Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Well played! It's the Cylinder Hemisphere 3 x 3 Ball Turret upside down! ...but not really a 3x3 dome suitable for astromech printing! Quote
cavegod Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 i dissagree, it's perfect i've been trying to find somebody to psint it but nobody is up for the challenge. Quote
Anio Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 A 3 stud dome would be a great piece, but that would make this set even more expensive Would decrease the profit made with that set. The price of the model was defined before the model was designed. The designer had to design a $100 model. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Well played! It's the Cylinder Hemisphere 3 x 3 Ball Turret [snip] upside down! ...but not really a 3x3 dome suitable for astromech printing! I used this too in my UCS V-wing, but it's not a true dome. A three-wide dome with standard stud connections would have made my job much easier. Quote
cavegod Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 now the person who won this set at auction said he got it for %30 off full price. in his words he said It's a pretty good build, but the set's not worth full-price, in my opinion. Less than 700 pieces for £80 is poor value, even by Star Wars standards. Of course, I got it at 30% off, so it's ok for that. so would this suggest that the price is £80GBP and not the £99GBP stated? Quote
Aeroeza Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 S@H just listed the price of the JSF for the Australian market... $174.99 AUS + $35.00 delivery. ... who'd have thought the Downunder dollar had parity with the greenback nowadays! Quote
TheBrickHitHouse Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Lego must think we're stupid, blatant attempt to rip us off Not getting this and I hope no one else would either, comes a point where lego needs to show us some respect Quote
Rufus Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 I don't think anyone has made this point - the display stand has a single tile on which to place the UCS sticker - no more irritating STAMPs! Quote
Aeroeza Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 I don't think anyone has made this point - the display stand has a single tile on which to place the UCS sticker - no more irritating STAMPs! True! I was surprised to see the use of this tile in 10212 as well. The only problem with these pieces is they tend to be bent or distorted slightly straight out of the box. Using large standard plates as a solid backing to the tile should fix them. Quote
merman Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 Can someone explain how the two sides on top (with the lime green) are linked to each other? I like the building techniques in this set a lot! Quote
Brickdoctor Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 Can someone explain how the two sides on top (with the lime green) are linked to each other? I like the building techniques in this set a lot! If I had to guess, I'd day there's some Technic hidden under that big slope just in front of the cockpit. You could always check the online building instructions. Quote
Brickus Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 Can someone explain how the two sides on top (with the lime green) are linked to each other? I like the building techniques in this set a lot! Possibly with a rubber band mechanism. Quote
Aeroeza Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 Possibly with a rubber band mechanism. Hope not! Mind you I'm happy with the options a rubber band lends to a builder when problem solving- though I can't help but feel I've cheated a little afterward... Mind you, life could be summed up as merely a succession of relationships on a day-by-day basis with much compromise traversing each so, on balance, I guess I can live with another rubber band to 'soil' a build. cavegod Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 i've placed my order i wasn't going to buy it but at $99 and then shipped to uk it would be rude not to. Quote

Brickdoctor Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 Alas, the building instructions are not yet available online. I'm kind of curious how it was done as well. Oh yeah. It's funny because this set has been revealed for so long I forgot that it hasn't been released yet. Quote
cavegod Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 if anyone really wants this set at full price it's on sale at the lego store in Milton Keynes UK. Quote
Darth Jar Jar Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 if anyone really wants this set at full price it's on sale at the lego store in Milton Keynes UK. Already beat you to it Quote
KimT Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 True! I was surprised to see the use of this tile in 10212 as well. The only problem with these pieces is they tend to be bent or distorted slightly straight out of the box. Using large standard plates as a solid backing to the tile should fix them. Plus the ultra tile has a ejection mark in the middle of the front, making it a mess to add a sticker. It's wobbly and ugly, bring back the tiled signs please. I can live with writing off a bunch of 1x8 tiles for a sticker instead of this hideous thing Quote
