What a clever message ! fail.gif

First fail : you don't even know how to calculate a price per part.

Price per part = price / part

Veeery good. Now try again. Read along with me the post just above yours: I will now link the complete parts/price ratio for the UCS sets. Once more: (...)complete parts/price ratio for(...). Last time, now in bold: parts/price ratio.

I calculated the parts/price ratio, not the price/parts one. And I even stated it. If your reading comprehension skills suck it's not my problem.

Second fail : many of your prices are wrong (the 10030 for example)

I directly copy-pasted brickipedia's prices. If they are wrong blame them, not me. But that's a tie, so let's go on.

Third fail : you do not compare the 10215 with the current models (I really don't care about the 10 year old models for such a comparison !).

**Yawn**

This is getting reeeally boring.

One more time, one more chance, as Masayoshi Yamazaki said.

I listed, (sigh) the UCS's prices. I even said it in the heading. I don't care about regular sets. I was compairing, and I hope you noticed that, ONLY the UCSs. These years, whoever decided their price either went completely nuts or completely greedy.

Judging by the other UCSs, you can clearly see how the 10125 is overpriced to say the least. The UCSs had a precise trend over the years, and the parts/price ratio I wrote down shows it quite well.

Try harder, you'll be luckier.

Yeah. I can read.

But we usually calculate thee price/part ratio.

So what ?

I do not care where your (wrong) figures come from ! ;)

Yes, I noticed that. I also noticed how stupid such an idea is.

You can not compare the price of a today set with the price of a model that was released 10 years earlier.

Otherwise, of course there is an increase. That's logical !

But this increase does not involve 10215 only. It is the same for all the LSW models.

So, the trend of the UCS line (and so the price of 10215) is equivalent to the trend we can see on the whole SW line.

PS : a good LSW fan knows that 10195 (and 10188, but that's more debatable...) is not UCS. ---oo.gif

Unfortunately, your argumet is already rendered invalid by the fact that between 10030 and 10186 (6 years) the parts/price ratio has been way more stable than in the last one and a half years, where it abruptly collapsed. It should have been logical to see a decrease in the parts/price ratio going from the ISD to the JSF, but, look at that, it's the opposite. TLC has been, ironically, more generous in those years than it is right now, where the parts/price ratio has dropped. I suppose you didn't even check those numbers to see if your theory was right (which it is, just not here).

As you said before, I do not care what "fans" presume. TLC lists them as UCSs http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Leaf.aspx?cn=416&d=322 , which means they are so.

It actually doesn't take too long to build.

it does when you have 18KG of lego to sort and clean

i'll save it till xmas and then i can get a pic of mine v's TLG's

I just finished building this set; I landed it for 80USD shipped which was a far more palatable price. While its not a very long build I found it to be very satisfying and lots of fun to swoosh. It looks great on the shelf, its pretty large, so I highly recommend this set if you can find it at a discount. The designer used a log of nice colors, it was gratifying to see that instead of light-bley 1x round plates he used the metallic ones.

shop.lego.com now has it for 59.99 ?

Mine was from eBay. Although Lego has it on sale for 75 USD.

That has to be a Christmas sale price, right? It's only been out for a few months, surely it hasn't been permanently discounted already?

Wow, must not of been that good of a set then! I mean, it looked a bit plain..... And expensive.

A actually think its a very good looking set; its just the original price was too high (which has been discussed and argued in detail). TBH I think the new Imperial Shuttle is a far plainer looking set.

But there are a couple other factors. The Shuttle has nearly 10 parts per dollar, which makes it an ideal parts pack and a good value, and it's OT, which will interest more of the people who even buy UCS. Personally, I don't see why TLG even makes PT UCS; they never sell well.

TLG can not afford to sell 10212 at a high price since the model was nearly entierly designed by an AFOL, Dmac.

true and 10215 was nearly copied from somebody in the uk

i'm gonna build it later today and take a pic of them side by side

Looking forward to it! Could you also get an time on how long it takes to build? I want to know if the (still) high price is made up for in nice building techniques.

It took me a lillte bit less than 2 hours to build.

But I REALLY envoyed building this set. There are very nice bricks and colors (compared to the other UCS I'm used to build).

Sounds promising. I can't remember the last time I took 2 hours for a $100 set. Do you think it's worth the $75 sale price?

Well, built 1hr 20mins very nice build though doesn't get repetative at all well worth the $75 sale price!

waiting for a UCS V-Wing, ARC and A-Wing! now!

A-wing would be nice. The other two are PT. Wouldn't buy the V-wing anyways.

I may consider this, then.

:sceptic: No offense my friend but I'm fairly sure that no IP laws were breached as a consequence of 10212 being based in some part upon Dmac's work.

I also doubt its price was influenced in any way by this similarity.

Pictorial evidence of Lego's underhanded and morally bankrupt creative team exposed by intrepid AFOL reporter/builder. Lego executives refuse to comment. More Wikileaks exclusives to follow!

BTW, is being 'nearly copied' somewhat akin to a 'near miss'? (Rhetorical question).

I'm also looking forward to the comparisons!

*snip* I want to know if the (still) high price is made up for in nice building techniques.

What the hey! I'll try and give you more reasons than it just having nice building techniques (and by no means am I meaning to come across as an apologist for TLC)...

1. Yes its a good build and its definitely in the style of classic UCS models in terms of complexity and clever use of bricks. The designer certainly hasn't settled for any straight forward answers.

2. As you probably know it has three printed pieces (two of them unique) as well as a number of small silver round 1x1 plates (I got alot of spares of these in my set).

3. The cost in $US (significantly) is basically equivalent to the UCS Tie Interceptor when it was first released in 2000. So TLC haven't set a new precedent with pricing 10215. This is hardly a happy fact when compared to other comparable UCS' like the ATST and Vader's Tie but still a consideration.

Is it worth it? How long is a piece of string and how much do you like UCS'?

I liked the build, I liked the design and I liked Lego making this product for AFOL even though its PT. Obviously I hope future models will be priced lower however its cost was mitigated for me by the following logic...

First - I suspect 'this limited-edition collector vehicle' will not be around long and was never intended to be.

Secondly - I'd certainly hate to pay even more for this one when its finished its 'limited' production run (that Astromech head could be a real draw card for future collectors who have grown up with the PT).

That's my best shot! Hope it helps.

Great. Now I want it. Something else to spend money on.

I think I'll wait until the May the Fourth Be With You sale, see if the discount goes down more. If it goes under $70, then it'd be a good value that I'd get. Right now the only reason I don't want to buy it is because I don't usually display stock sets, and this set is still too expensive for a parts pack. I really want some of the dk. red pieces.
