I just got official word of the pricing... everybody sitting comfortably?

10214 – Tower Bridge:

US= 239.99

UK=204.99

DE=219.99

CA=314.99

James

That's not so bad. I expected the Canadian price to be MORE than the Taj Mahal. Not that I can afford it, anyway. :laugh:

The price's a definite pinch in the wallet for sure. Although I'll take two of these IF two of these can be modified for a minifig-size tower-bridge layout. A friend stacked two Eiffel towers together and the result is impressive.

There is blue alright:

But I'm not sure if they used the right shade. Maybe if it had a bit more green in it then it would look fine.

BTW, who else noticed the gold and the printed shield! :thumbup:

BUT, it could've used some flag poles.

In fact, it should be light blue. Brits paint the bridge with the colour of the last country to whom they won a war. In this case, and sadly enough, it's my coutry, Argentina, and the flag is white and light blue. For years it was paintedwith Germany's colours.

...and now, the bad new:

PRICES:

US $ 239.99

CA $ 314.99

UK £ 204.99

DE € 219.99

Considered that the Taj Mahal is €300, €219.99 is a good deal. I was so angry not long ago, when I saw they sell the Motorized Excavator at €195.

In fact we don't!

Not unless the Falkland's War happened in 1977 when the bridge was re-painted in the present colour for Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee. It used to be a chocolate brown so unless you can think of a good reason for brown being associated with either Imperial or Nazi Germany (apart from the SA) then I'd say your hypothesis, however 'colourful' :classic: is incorrect...

As for 10214, as wonderful as it looks, I'm still gonna have a hard time convincing my girlfriend that she wants it! She already owns and displays the Eiffel Tower and Taj but the apartment is getting a little small for this one as well...

Maybe its time to move!

I updated the first post with the set information and the official release notice. I haven't got a chance to sit down properly to admire this set and I must said that I am really very impressed with the overall architecture and I am very tempted to purchase it, given that the local price is right. I haven't exactly got into any of this world iconic structures, but this could and might be my first. I wonder how could the bridge looks like filled with minifigs scale vehicles. :wub:

Then you make me a happy man!!!! I was told so by a guy in London when I inquired if he knew why the bridge had those colours (I asked because they aren't, or at least not to me, classical British colours). So, if it's not true, the better... :)

At Brickfair Steve Witt hosted the speed build and although I was on the other team (taj mahal) I got to watch their group once in a while as they built it. 5 people built it in 2 hours and 20 minutes.

That's pretty good time, since the Lego World Record (for a 3-person team building the 10189 Lego Taj Mahal set) is 1 hr 47 minutes 9 seconds (from http://www.recordholders.org/en/list/lego.html ) :

"Fastest Time to Built the Taj Mahal (Set 10189) (The team is limited to 3 builders. No presorting of pieces is allowed.)

"1:47:09 hours -- Marcus Klein, Christian Krützfeldt, Bruno Kurth (all Germany), Thomas Muskovich (Austria), Tobias Reichling und Thomas Wesselski (both Germany) at LEGO fan weekend in Skærbæk, Denmark, 27 September 2008."

There are other Lego World Records listed on that website too -- it makes for interesting reading. :classic:

What a cheeky sod he was!! :laugh: I live in Australia now. If you happen to visit and anyone speaks to you of the dangers associated with walking in the bush and encountering 'drop bears' then rest assured they're taking the piss! Of course if you catch an Aussie out on this there are plenty of other killer animals out there we can scare you with.

Ever heard of Bunyips? :grin:

Love this version! I'm assuming this is mini-fig scale?

That is amazing, no doubt a master builder did that one.

As for the official one, if you live in Australia, $379.99 is not a bad price to pay for 4200 pieces, even if some of them are small, the Taj Mahal is $499.99, and the Carousel is $399.99, so I think it is a fair price for this lovely set, heck the Imperial Shuttle is $449.99 and has just over half the amount of pieces.

If anyone is interested, I was able to pick two of these sets up today at my local LEGO store (I think they put them on the shelves before they were supposed to). I have put one of them up for sale on ebay. Here's the link: LEGO 10214 Tower Bridge **BRAND NEW IN SEALED BOX** For those of you outside of the US, I will ship this internationally.

Wow thats lucky

BTW the back off the box looks amazing wait I don't care about the box I care about the set :tongue:

LEGO store at Mall of America in Minnesota has the Tower Bridge set in stock and on shelves for sale. Saw it with my own eyes!
