noname Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 For more information about the minifigs and for the story, click here. My second castle MOC! I've used old "Expert Builder" gears that were found in the attic in this MOC. (These parts are 40 years old!) There's a blue pin connected to the gear. When the gear spins clockwise, the pin reaches the "brake" and holds the bridge mid-air. This gear also spins the second gear counter-clockwise. The second gear is connected to an axle, and when the axle spins it lifts the whole bridge. The heads of the towers are removable. There's a wheel in one of the towers. It is connected to the gear with the pin. When the wheel is spun, it activates the whole mechanism. The wheel was spun, so the pin reached the "brake". The second tower. It took few days to build, because I forgot I had these gears- I even tried to build it with a tractor's wheels , but there was not enough friction. I've filmed the mechanism in action, but Youtube and Photobucket gave me an error message when I tried to upload it. You may notice that in some pictures, the flags are connected to "poles" and in some pictures there are no poles, because I took some pictures in the evening, and in the morning I didn't find one pole, so I removed the second. Tycho McKorley Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Your MOC is nice, but I really like those gears. Admittedly the blue color scheme may not be the best for castle, but the fact that those pieces are so OLD really hammers home the longevity of Lego blocks. Thanks for sharing this with us. Quote
Hoboman Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Nice use of those gears. I love the tower witht he control gear. Nice job. Quote
Orcasek Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 This is clever, I remember seeing those gears in my old Lego League class. Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 I really like your mechanism for the drawbridge 'noname' - very simple yet very clever ! Great designing and I'm a conformist! ! Quote
