Cecilie Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 After getting a box of the first series of the collectible minifigs, I was wondering how best to display them, and I got the idea to make a modular display shelf. Each minifig would get an 8x8 vig which would give it a "natural habitat". The vigs had to be such that they could be arranged in any configuration, so they also had to have a set height. I decided on 9 and 2/3 bricks high (9 bricks + top and bottom plate). Here are som pictures of the finished result, and a picture of the whole thing stacked together. You can see all the pictures at flickr. Quote
Skalldyr Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 (edited) Wow, what an amazing setup idea!......They all look nice Oh and I love the Cowboy, Spaceman-flag and Indian rug producing clouds... Edited July 23, 2010 by Skalldyr Quote
Carbohydrates Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Aww, poor robot doomed to a life of assembly line manufacturing. The clock over the conveyor belt really adds to that one. I bet it never moves. Quote
greg3 Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 What a great idea and an awesome looking display!! I love it! Quote
Sandy Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Yes, this is really a fantastic idea and a top-notch execution. It reminds me of the collectable minifig contest we had here a month or so ago. Did you participate in it? Quote
BrickClick Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Really nice display! My favorites are the wrestler, The zombie, And the space man! Great work and thanks for sharing Quote
Plastemaurer Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Wonderful idea and a great display. Thank you for sharing this with us. Quote
Svelte Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Brilliant work and all your little scenes are superb! I especially love the dynamic action of the skater, the coloured totems of the Native American vig, and the detailed but compact little graveyard scene for the zombie. Thanks for sharing - this is very inspirational. Quote
Tycho McKorley Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 This is a really fun MOC you've put together here. I really think making a modular set of vignettes is one of the more creative things I've seen in a while. Nice work. Quote
BlueBard Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Not only a great idea, but also a wonderful MOC! BRAVO! Quote
prateek Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Awesome job! IMO, this is the best display for these figs I've seen! Quote
Jonas Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 In my opinion, this is the most original and most sophisticated idea of displaying the collectible minifigs. Moreover, this modular display scheme can be easily expanded when new series arrive. Quote
iwanapsp Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 WOW. amazing execution. i came up with this same idea 2 weeks ago and so far have only done it for the diver wrestler and magician. i like your ninja diver n archer Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 AWESOME just AWESOME ! Fantastic idea indeed, it's an extension of that minifig contest but with all the first series figures ! Excellent designs and really I'm a conformist! ! Quote
Cecilie Posted July 24, 2010 Author Posted July 24, 2010 Thanks everyone, glad you like it I already have series 2 on the planning board, so hoping I'll be able to get my hands on a complete set of those as well. It reminds me of the collectable minifig contest we had here a month or so ago. Did you participate in it? Yes, I did. The ninja-vig in my display is a modified version of the one I entered for the contest. And I gotta admit that the contest might have been what sparked the idea of this modular display Quote
badboytje88 Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Great Idea, I'm building a display myself, but it will be pure black. Can't wait to see what you will build for the second batch of figs. Quote

guy montag Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 This really brings a smile to my face. Well done. When you do series 2 and then series 3 and 4, its just going to look awesome. Good job. and thankyou for making my day. Quote

WhiteFang Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Seeing this display shelf certainly brings me lots of memories about the Minifigs Series 1 contest. Well done. Every minifigs have indeed been give a well deserved scene of their own in this beautiful display. Quote
vynsane Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Very inspirational - great concept AND execution. I may have to do something like this (someday...) Quote
Rick Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 These are great. So much detail crammed into all of the vignettes. And the idea to make them connect is simple, but clever. Quote
