January 27, 201114 yr Given that they wanted the horns to be three-dimensional, making the head in two pieces was a GREAT move. It allows for the figure as shown, but also (as others have noted), allows for other hat pieces like hoods or helmets. Beyond that, it makes the head piece itself much more useful in non-SW instances since you can combine it with more helmet types. A single-piece head with molded horns would be much less flexible, usage-wise. m19
January 27, 201114 yr Savage looks okay. I think if the horns were to be a hat, which they most likely will be, would be contoured to the shape of the head under it. And we could also put them on Maul.
January 27, 201114 yr For reasons I can't especially explain... I was playing Star Wars Ace Assault on LEGO.com this morning. I found a video in a hidden unlockable and thought it might give some input to the look of the mysterious spiked minifigure heads, such as Darth Maul and Savage. Take a look if you get the chance! The unlockable number is bonus video #3, I unlocked it fairly fast, so if you have patience you might figure out LEGO's spiked heads. ~~Lloyd
January 27, 201114 yr Look on the bright side. The choice to make the horns removable means that you can just take them off and toss them in an extra parts bin for a 'classic'-style Savage. And since classic Maul wasn't printed on the top, back, or sides, you aren't losing any detail.
January 27, 201114 yr More news from Brickset! According to Huw, the advent calendar includes "mini models from the entire galaxy and 8 minifigs". Only one of those figs is new, but it's supposedly the best one. He also confirms that Savage and Maul's horns are a soft-plastic head gear which blends in with the head pretty well. That pic of Savage does look a bit weird, but I guess that's because it's a computer rendition. I'm sure it will look better in real life. His lightsaber isn't great, but at least we get a decent symmetrical hilt. It's generic enough to be used for both him and Maul and in MOCs.
January 27, 201114 yr @ Brickdoctor: Some detail might be lost though, as the yellow printing extends up to the headpiece. The yellow printing on the head would then be 'cut off'. Edited January 27, 201114 yr by commdr_neyo
January 27, 201114 yr Except we've gotten plenty of new head molds lately. Remember all those SP3 aliens? Meh! But that's different. The SP3 aliens had different shaped heads. Maul and Oppress have human heads with horns. If I had to say which fig Lego missed making a full head was Saesee Tiin. His official head piece looks too big and awkward
January 27, 201114 yr More news from Brickset! According to Huw, the advent calendar includes "mini models from the entire galaxy and 8 minifigs". Only one of those figs is new, but it's supposedly the best one. Hmm... There are 7 OT Heroes and Villains. (Luke, Han, Leia, Chewie, R2, 3P0, Vader) There are 8 CW Heroes and Villains. (Obi-Wan, Anakin, Yoda, R2, 3P0, Padme, Dooku, Grievous) But that's if generics like clones and Stormies aren't included. I guess most likely it'd be CW, in which case the new 'fig would Padme, since she'd be CW and not TPM.
January 27, 201114 yr I'd like to see them come out with an OT advent calendar, and a CW advent. One for each set of fans. Too bad we only get one, and I don't really want to see them mix the two.
January 27, 201114 yr Wow! That Savage Oppress is awesome! I did not expect the horns to be done like this, but it is good. It kinda looks a bit off, but I believe this is better than a full new head mold. That just wouldn't look right. I really hope the saber hilt is done like this, with a new piece. I was looking at my Darth Maul fig, and I was just thinking how the handle looks too small.
January 27, 201114 yr I really hope the saber hilt is done like this, with a new piece. I was looking at my Darth Maul fig, and I was just thinking how the handle looks too small. But why can't a minifigure tool be disproportionate like the rest of the minifigure? I'm not complaining about our man-sized megaphone and camera blasters.
January 27, 201114 yr But why can't a minifigure tool be disproportionate like the rest of the minifigure? I'm not complaining about our man-sized megaphone and camera blasters. I guess so, but I think it would be cool if we had a saber hilt that could be held by two hands. That would be ideal.
January 27, 201114 yr Does anyone have pictures of all the sets and figures? because brick link says that they saw figures that were to die for
January 27, 201114 yr I guess so, but I think it would be cool if we had a saber hilt that could be held by two hands. That would be ideal. And it would be as tall as the minifig. The existing lightsaber hilt is already much too large as is. (although that's a product of how big the hands are)
January 27, 201114 yr And it would be as tall as the minifig. The existing lightsaber hilt is already much too large as is. (although that's a product of how big the hands are) A new hilt without the rims popping out is what would have to happen. I hope not, though.
January 28, 201114 yr Can't say I dislike the new Savage Opress minifig just from what I've seen so far but I can say I'm not excited. I'll have to see an actual photo of the minifig 1st.
January 28, 201114 yr I guess the hilt is fine. It's kind of a conflicting argument in regard to the hilts. On one hand, it would be nice to have some variety in the hilts, but on the other hand, an extra long hilt would look ridiculously big. Maybe we just need a different looking handle (something more like Anakin's?). That might be nice. But I doubt LEGO would ever change the hilt design after 10 years.
January 28, 201114 yr They sent a pic of a printed-horn Savage to my facebook when I unlocked him. I'm guessing the site version is what we'll get in the Dathomir Speeder and the facebook pic is how he'll look in the game because they made the game before the summer set announcement (remember Ki-Adi in the gameplay clip?). Also I'm guessing he'll have Clone Wars eyes because Lego Star Wars III made them all original. From where I see it, we have yet to see the Savage that we will add to our collections.

That sounds pretty much correct.

January 28, 201114 yr Brickset Report of the New Star Wars sets. Hmm, interesting. "No less than nine". No specifics, so that may hint at more things we haven't seen. Is the spikey part of his head a head gear part like a hat? That seems most likely, and I think that's good for most of us. That way, Darth Maul can wear a hood, and other headgear is compatible with them. More news from Brickset! According to Huw, the advent calendar includes "mini models from the entire galaxy and 8 minifigs". Only one of those figs is new, but it's supposedly the best one. As we expected. "Mini models from the entire galaxy" seems to hint that we'll be seeing stuff from all the different movies. I'm interested as to whether the new figure is a variant of an existing one, or a completely new one altogether.
January 28, 201114 yr I think the figures will most likely be CW, but I'm definitely hoping for OT, If it's CW the fig would probably be a clone comander of some kind, or arc trooper, But if it's OT, I'm hoping for Nien Numb or Max Rebo!
January 28, 201114 yr He also confirms that Savage and Maul's horns are a soft-plastic head gear which blends in with the head pretty well. I think it really makes sense to create just a separate headpiece for Savage's/Maul's horned top. Echoing morgan's sentiments, this gives more flexibility in using other head pieces, like putting a hood piece to Maul. And besides, this has been the trend with the recent SW figures = Ahsoka, Aayla, Saesee, Shaak. I guess what's important here would be the 'seamless blending' of the headgear with the headpiece, which IMO they have already proven to be effective, perfect example would be the new Shaak Ti fig.

Yeah but the thing that worries me is that it may appear that the Zabbracks will have elongated heads when in comparison to other minifigures, which I can't say I'd be very fond of
