Forresto Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 It is obviously not a Dwarf Spider Droid. Dwarf spider droids don't have Battle Droids sitting on them and controlling them. And please, no reason to quote that huge chunk of pics. It actually resembles the DSD from Republic Commando Link However it's deffeninty a Proton cannon. Quote
prateek Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 We'll just have to wait for the official SaH description to find out if it's a proton cannon or not Quote
Ceroknight Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 That's also an artist's representation, for whatever that statement is worth in a movie saga whose ships all originate as drawings or paintings. From these shots from The Phantom Menace, you can see that the PAC is the same color as the AAT and B1s, in which case from a clearer shot of the AAT I would conclude that the most accurate color is good ol' tan: The most accurate color would probably be that Dk. Flesh color that Jar-Jar has. That was what I was implying when I said that As for the proton cannon/ dwarf spider droid argument, I thought it was the advanced DS Droid but that was before I knew what a proton cannon was. It is a proton cannon Quote
Brickdoctor Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 It actually resembles the DSD from Republic Commando Link However it's deffeninty a Proton cannon. I only see a small resemblence. I think we can all agree on the fact that it's a proton cannon, too. I'm just curious as to what TLG will call it in the set description. Quote
Cloney Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 re: set 7869, (the geonosis set with Luminara and Rex) That's not a proton cannon, it's a dwarf spider droid. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Dwarf_Spider_Droid YESSSS! XimenaPaulina Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 YESSSS! I can finally get a new Captain Rex, since my neighbours stupid dog chewed him and Ahsoka up I had a good laugh reading your post, now wonder how elated you are with the upcoming Geonosis set. I agree, the Battle for Geonosis set is really the perfect chance for people to pick-up Rex in an inexpensive way. I missed Rex in the AT-TE, and I've been unsure getting him off BL (too pricey IMO), so this is a good move by TLG. Not to mention that sweet new Luminara fig. This set has certainly jumped on top of my 2011 buylist. Quote

I'm just curious as to what TLG will call it in the set description. Proton Cannon, what else? Anyway, here's a comparison pic with the real thing. The barrell and the headlights should've been positioned lower, and the twin headlights smaller. But that can be easily fixed with a bit of modding. Quote
CommanderFox Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 I just happend to look in Kims gallery and man, the proton cannon set looks incredible! A definite on my list! Nice comparison pics KDM! CF Quote

There's a 200 pic limit for non-paying users. At least TLG didn't try to turn the whole barrel into a flick-fire missile. Quote
RileyC Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 Thanks for the comparison KielDaMan! It actually looks pretty spot on. The only real differences are that the red lights are probably a bit too far up and the knee joints on the lego version arent as built up like the original. Still I think its going to be a pretty good set! Quote

Back on topic, I just realized that the barrel was raised to accomodate the firing thingy below it. Quote
Fallenangel Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 I should have made my point clearer, it's not that I find it totally wrong not to have landing gears, but it would just be better if the V-Wing had landing gears compared to none at all. Clear? IMO, the V-Wing won't look good if it just landed on its underside without any landing gears (as I said, I'm not familiar with the V-Wing design and just expressing my opinion). The Delta 7Bs, which is about the same size as the V-Wing, have appropriate landing gears, then why can't they put one in the V-Wing? And pls. do not generalize my statement that all ships should have landing gears. Obviously, the TIE doesn't need one because of the vertical alignment of the wings. And the Naboo N-1 Starfighter has different landing/docking positions (inserted in multi-level hangars). Yes the ARC-170 has no landing gears either, and just look at the official set on how it doesn't look right without the landing gears and just lies flat on its 'belly' in landing position. I'm sorry KielDaMan this is like the third time I've attacked you without realizing it was you. On a forum with no human faces it's easy to forget who's who (IMO anyway). Considering the sloping areas on the underside of the Alpha-3 you're right it probably would look better if it wasn't sitting on the bottom; maybe hovering like the N-1. (Actually, we never actually see the underside of the V-wing touch the ground in the film, so this is quite possible.) But seeing the incline on the underside of the nose,I think that having a central foot for landing gear (in the style of the Delta-7) sticking out would look somewhat awkward. Actually TIEs are stored on racks so wouldn't the wing panels be irrelevant as to whether or not it would need landing gear? I always thought that they intentionally designed the ARC-170 to have a belly that slopes outward from the body for the purpose of sitting on its belly (and, of course, as a grip on the toy for kids to hold on to - the Prequels are all about merchandising). And the LEGO set is pretty deformed compared to its movie counterpart so I don't consider it a very good caliber. (Don't get me wrong, 7259 is a great set, but the proportions and shape are way off.) Anyone else notice that the set numbers for these new sets barely relate to each other? This is very different from what we've been seeing for LEGO in the past 5 or 6 years in terms of Star Wars sets. I mean come on there's 7913 7914 and 7915 but then it's 7929 7930 and 7931 and then 7868 and 7869 what? I still suspect that the last two are fake. The box art is just too plain compared to the other sets and the content of the sets are unusual. (Plus Rex's blaster effects look crappy.) Quote

XimenaPaulina Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 No problem fallenangel327, I completely understand. Regarding the landing gears, even though I wanted the V-Wing to have landing gears, if the real design doesn't have any then I'd understand tha lack of it in the official set (I'm really not familiar with the overall design because of the little exposure of the V-Wing in the movies). The 8088 ARC-170 does have a flat underbelly for landing, the problem with the official set was it was shorter than what it should've been (1-2 bricks higher would have been perfect). And yeah, I also noticed the odd numbering of the 2011 sets (unlike this year's 808x - 809x series), but it's obviously just a small issue. Lastly, I sure hope you're wrong (in a good way) on your assumption of the 'fake' sets, because everyone would really want to get an updated Luminara and those who were deprived of Rex before. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 I don't think there is any pic of the bottom of the V-wing or the ARC. If I get the time I might play a little BF2 and see if there's a good image there. Quote
Aethersprite Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 I have similar complaints about the oversized red 'eyes', but upon pondering about it for a bit, I realized it's better that way. The only other alternative is to use 1x1 circle bricks, and that would look ridiculous. I still have complaints about positioning the barrel of the cannon higher in favour of the missile. Hopefully it's removable without using any additional parts. Other than that, I can't wait to get this set. I'm now in favour of getting this over the Droid Carrier, if I have limited funds. Quote
commanderneyo Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 This is what I like and don't like about the battle for Geonosis set. Good: Proton Cannon New Luminara Unduli Bad: Lack of figures (The battle of Naboo has 10+figures while rather than having battle droids I would rather have clones or Geonosians). No Geonosians (This is supposed to be the battle of Geonosis and yet there are no Geonosians). Captain Rex (Yes I do like Rex but we really should get one of Luminara's men as she is the main Jedi in the set like http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/CC-1004 http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Draa http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Buzz Overall I will get this set but seen as I already have rex I will probably paint the thing around his neck and make a ARC Trooper out of it Quote

Corydoras Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 Wow, I'm suprised how the sets changed from preliminary to their final versions. I really like the V-wing, the Platoon Attack Craft and the proton cannon. Quote
