FettJango Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 The rumors Poza found are unknown to be true however Greg Hyland who works for Lego stated he remembers doing preliminary designs for the sets and remembers at least 1 OT set. And that means one less CW or PT set. Quote
commanderneyo Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 And that means one less CW or PT set. Well FettJango while I prefer PT or CW, OT fans need there sets too and also we are getting a bit spoiled us PT and CW fans with the 2011 wave so far Quote

No, I'm joking. I'm in need of some more original trilogy sets anyway although I do favour the prequel trilogy and clone wars sets. It sounds a bit strange, though, to have only one (or a few, anyway) original trilogy set amongst the others. Quote
Ceroknight Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 maybe the reason there is no 'legitimate'; OT set is because the UCS will be a OT set..was this ever considered? Since the death star playset is in limited quantity, maybe a cloud city playset is going to replace it? Quote

Since the death star playset is in limited quantity, maybe a cloud city playset is going to replace it? For now, there are still the Endor and Home One playsets, although that doesn't help me since I have those already. Frankly, I'm not surprised (albeit, still unhappy) about the number of OT sets. In 2007, 7 of 15 sets were OT. In 2008, 6 of 22 sets were OT. And in 2009, only 6 of 24 sets were OT. Quote
Super Brick Collector Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 Looks good for next year. But kinda dissapointed about the lack of OT sets. I do hope that there is sets we havent seen yet that will be OT. Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 With all due respect to OT fans, do you guys really expect TLG to release more OT-based sets considering these movies are 20+ years ago? We all just have to accept the fact that OT & PT are things of the past, and CW is the in-thing nowadays, and one doesn't need to be a rocket scientist to know that obviously TLG will base majority of the sets on the current CW series. Just be happy that TLG doesn't totally ignore the OT/PT and at least they try to release a couple of sets per year. I think one thing going for OT/PT fans is the planned re-re-release of the PT/OT in 3D which will definitely increase the chances of more OT/PT sets in the future. Quote

Penitent Tangent Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 I love the OT as much as the next guy, but again.. we currently have a very popular TV series running, which is introducing a lot of new characters, vehicles and locations. It makes much more sense to release sets based on those things rather then the 20+ year old movies that have already been done to death. Especially when we see so many complaints about remakes of old sets.. what else is there left to do? Personally, I'd love to see a new system scale Millennium Falcon and Sail Barge, but I'm sure they'll come. Eventually. Quote

Good point, but I expect there to still be potential for new sets or remakes. I don't want to stop my stormtrooper collection just yet. Still, I don't mind whichever way future sets go. I'm not too picky about which series I collect from, and I don't think Lego can possibly forget the trilogy that started the whole thing. I still agree with you on the fact that original trilogy sets will decrease. Quote

Do you expect a logical reply from an OT fanboy. There is probably 1/5 of what the money is for OT sets then what there is for CW as its on tv now and its mostly kids buying the sets. Quote

Flare Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 I don't really care, they should at least do a few OT sets... Quote
Mr Man Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 Hmm Overall there are: 21 PM sets, 8 ATOTC sets, 29 TCW sets, 20 ROTS sets, 16 ANH sets, 22 TESB sets, 18 TROTJ sets, and 9 EU sets. Not including UCE of the 2011 sets. that works out at 49 PT sets, 56 OT sets, 29 CW sets, and 9 EU sets. Sorry if this is of topic. Quote
Emperor Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 that works out at 49 PT sets, 56 OT sets, 29 CW sets, and 9 EU sets. There are more OT sets than PT sets, OT fans should be happy that TLG still releases sets of 30 year old movies. I'm happy with CW, you get figs which exist in the PT too and you get sets which are new and not just remakes. I do hope TLG will release more AOTC sets, 8 is far to less for such a great movie. The 3D SW movies could change that, though. Quote

I hope it's re-re-release in 2013 will spark something up. Maybe the CW will be over by then. Quote
Supersonic Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 The problem is that there aren't too many possible sets from AotC. Sure, a few big Geonosis sets are due, with some Geonosians, and maybe something from Tatooine with a real Watto minifig. But big parts from the film can't be made into sets - like the part with Anakin & Padme on Naboo, or the Kamino clone facility. Sure, Kamino would be cool but also extremely boring for kids. Here's to a really, really big Geonosian arena set some time. That reminds me - the Geonosian Starfighter this summer or the rumored Geonosian BP could be very awesome. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 Personally, I don't think you can get a true view of what sets TLG releases from those stats. Back in 1999, there was no CW. Until 2008, CW sets didn't exist. It's not like there are still a lot of OT sets being released. As far as we know for 2011, OT sets comprise only 12.5% of the comfirmed sets, and only that much if you include the V-wing. Now before you say, "It's CW's turn", remember that just because there are overall fewer CW sets and more CW fans doesn't mean that OT fans don't exist. TLG still needs to keep up it's updating of OT sets. Just because all those kiddies happen to like disproportionate Venators and irrealistic Solar Sailors doesn't make the X-wing and TIE fighter any less iconic. Those ships are still what people think of SW as. And if there are no OT sets, those CW kiddies (and when I say kiddies I do not refer to the CW fans who are responsibpe members of EB) could forget OT exists. One of the things that makes me sad is when I'm browsing the LEGO store and a kid tells his parent that he doesn't know what the heck an X-wing is or thinks it's ugly. They don't know where SW started! Think about it: If Lucas started with Ep.1, you CW/PT fans would be the OT fans, and we OT fans would be ST (sequel trilogy) fans. TLG would be releasing loads of ST sets, and you OT fans would have no sets to look forward to and would be sad or mad that us ST fans didn't know of or couldn't acquire the OT sets. Just because there happen to be more kids who are CW fans than OT fans doesn't mean there aren't kids who who would like an MF. What will parents do if their kid wants an MF? Sorry, it's too expensive on eBay? Here, have a $40 display model that has no minifgs or play features? Sorry for my rant, and I say it with all due respect to the many responsible and law-abiding AFOL CW fans of EB. Don't get me wrong, I understand that some people just like CW more or see it as he SW of the future. I can accept that. But OT fans still exist, and there are a lot of us. Just because LEGO is a kids toy doesn't mean TLG shouldn't cater to the side of the fanbase that is mainly adult. OT fans need their OT ships just as much as CW fans need their clones. Quote
Supersonic Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 Well said Brickdoctor By the way, the old movies still are on TV every few months. It's not that unlikely that kids watch them there - I personally am much too young to have seen the OT in theatres, and I still loved it after seeing the movies in TV. Quote
