Brickdoctor Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 Well said Brickdoctor By the way, the old movies still are on TV every few months. It's not that unlikely that kids watch them there - I personally am much too young to have seen the OT in theatres, and I still loved it after seeing the movies in TV. Yeah, they're usually on Spike. Out of curiosity, Supersonic, are you an OT, PT, CW, or combination fan? Quote
commanderneyo Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 (edited) I have to say BrickDoctor that was the best rant I ever saw In all seriousness though it is no rant, you are pretty much saying logical sense and not at all a rant and yes while I agree with you about your logic but also there are kids who know what a X-Wing is and would buy an X-Wing (Depends what age the Kid is though). Emperor Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 You're absolutely right Brickdoctor. It is important that TLG continues making OT sets. I just don't like them as much as PT. What sort of annoys me is the fact that so many people complain that there are too many CW sets(no offense). 2009 there were very many OT sets, and they sold quite good, so I think TLG won't stop making OT sets as long as they have the license. At the moment CW is very popular; TLG highest priority is profit, after all, so one shouldn't complain that there is only one OT set in this wave. As long as the 30 year anniversary of ROTJ is celebrated properly, I think every OT fan should be able to live with the current situtation. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 Quite agreeable Brickdoctor. Does that mean you agree. In all seriousness though it is no rant, you are pretty much saying logical sense and not at all a rant and yes while I agree with you about your logic but also there are kids who know what a X-Wing is and would buy an X-Wing (Depends what age the Kid is though). I never said none of the CW kiddies knew what an X-wing was. We're not complaining that there are too many CW sets- just that there aren't enough OT sets. I don't really care if TLG makes a million CW sets as long as we get our 3-5 OT sets each year. Quote
Supersonic Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 Yeah, they're usually on Spike. Out of curiosity, Supersonic, are you an OT, PT, CW, or combination fan? Combination I like both trilogies and I find The Clone Wars enjoyable(though the movies are better, of course). However, I still hate it when TLG does sets like the Freeco Speeder or the Halo, they are just so utterly unimportant. Quote

Stegoceras Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 On another note, with 2013 seeing a 3d version of the movies (not sure but I read TPM in 2012 and AotC in 2013) and it being the 30 anniversary of RotJ, I'm quite curious to see what bandwagon TLC is going to jump on, PT or OT sets. Sorry for the off-topic. Lets not forget this is a 2011 picture and rumor thread, not what trilogy is best/what will happen beyond 2011. Quote
General Magma Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 I agree, well said Brickdoctor. I don't mind the CW and the PT sets, but OT sets are just released in very small amounts compared to CW/PT sets each year, ever since the CW came out. It's a bad year for OT fans... I hope there will be an awesome OT UCS set to justify it a bit. ~ General Magma Quote

Or they could redesign a Y-Wing/A-Wing/B-Wing, or do a Yavin Base, or a minifig scale Mon Calamari Cruiser...seriously, there is so much OT stuff still waiting to be done. I really want a standalone A-Wing - I won't pay 140€ for the MCC just for the fighter It is a real disappointment that both exclusive sets are TCW - many special edition sets were OT/PT, like MCC, Swamp Speeder or Rebel Blockade Runner. We can still hope for a random march release, like LAAT/c wth AT-OT. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 I really want a standalone A-Wing - I won't pay 140€ for the MCC just for the fighter There was one in 2006 and in the original wave. (2000?) Quote
Clone OPatra Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 There was one in 2006 and in the original wave. (2000?) Yes, but you've just said numerous times that you want more OT redos. How are past standalone versions of the A-Wing relevant to his desire to have a current one out for him to purchase? I honestly don't see what that has to do with Pictures & Rumors anyway, since a new standalone A-Wing is neither a picture nor a rumor. I don't see why some people seem to think that just because in the one wave that we are completely solid about (January) and in the current rumors for the Summer there are few OT sets, that means that OT is officially dead to LEGO. Come on people, LEGO will always continue to make some OT sets, even if it's more some years and less the next. The past few years have seen some wonderful redos and brand new OT sets. It makes perfect sense that in a year with no anniversaries LEGO would shift over to focusing heavily on CW (while still releasing some OT as well, I am sure). Fine, if there was no OT at all to come in 2011 then perhaps that would be a surprise, but I'm confident that it's not going to happen. Quote

And no, this has nothing to do with 2011 rumors. No idea how we got to this topic, but we'd better stop. We're not saying we think OT is dead, but having no OT in the first wave is something new. Yes, you're right about that, although 2009 did only have one OT set in the first wave, I believe. Looking at it from LEGO's point of view, perhaps, the divide might be Films/CW, rather than PT/OT/CW. There is at least one non-CW set, though of course that can't appease the exclusively OT fans. Everybody can't always be happy all the time. Quote

Everybody can't always be happy all the time. I guess. That's a good point though. I would divide it OT/PT/CW&EU, if not just because there's so much more of the movies. That'll change in a few years, though. I really think all we need is a System MF, X-wing, and TIE Fighter. I can be happy with that for a while. Quote

A System MF and a TIE Fighter I understand, but why a new X-wing when the old one is still available? As for the OT/PT/CW&EU discussion: It's all starwars and that's why I like it, you just have to use a bit of your imagination. Quote

I guess he wants a more accurate one, and I agree with you, there all starwars to me also so I don't care.. sure I hate the design of the t6 shuttle but why am I and probably others going to get it? because of the new minifigures! same goes with all the other sets released in 2011, spectacular minifigures, horrible ships. Thats my conclusion of winter 2011 unless what i said becomes true Quote
StoutFiles Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 If anything, the lack of certain OT sets would be surprising. I imagine that OT sets are some of their highest moneymakers...can anyone say that a new Falcon would not be one of their top sets for the year? It's been seven years since they've made an affordable Falcon! I don't mind the PT/CW love but don't leave OT completely in the dust because there's still a HUGE market for it, especially with the right sets. Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 That sounds kinda offensive to me... Oh my I'm so sorry if you felt that way, I never meant to offend anyone with that post. It's just that people are constantly complaining about the lack of OT sets in the 2011 wave. Don't get me wrong, I'm a SW fan in general, and I just try to look at things based on the present and not in the past. I also apologize if my controversial statement has spurned 2+ pages of OT vs. PT vs. CW off-topic replies. I hope we all could get back on topic now. Quote

I realise that this continues the off-topic discussion, and I promise this'll be my last post on the OT vs. CW topic. Mostly, it's just that 4 of the 6 included minifigs need updates, and I would like o see the craft return to the 1999 grey color scheme. Quote
Fallenangel Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 A System MF and a TIE Fighter I understand, but why a new X-wing when the old one is still available? clicky. Flare Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 (edited) I think we should make a petition for a UCS Cloud City set! Whos with me? Seriously... (and sorry for off-topic ) Edited November 8, 2010 by Flare Quote
