XimenaPaulina Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 These pics look cool, but some of the pictures even of the figures look prelim. Here's my thoughts why: Jar Jar has the exact same torso print that he had last time he came out. LEGO just wouldn't do that, they'd come out with a more detailed one. The figures in the shuttle seem very weird to me, and mismatched. Saesee Tiin has a Clone Trooper face. I guess it's possible LEGO would do that, since it sort of works, but that just seems weird. Tiin also has an old style torso, like the PT Mace robes and the original Jedi robes, not the CW style. Both Shaak Ti and Quinlan Vos do not have the signature Clone Wars eyes. That just doesn't make sense. It made enough sense for Bariss not too I suppose, since she came in an arguably PT set with a EpIII Clone and not a CW one, but why would LEGO make a set with two CW looking characters and two non-CW looking characters? I just don't get it. Quinlan Vos's torso looks like the old Luke Skywalker one just with some extra minor detail. LEGO hasn't put out a SW torso that simplistic in years. And, finally, Obi-Wan has a green lightsaber, but I guess that could just be a silly mistake. I think since TLG has been very detailed with its recent MFs (SW and non-SW), they won't resort to reusing old jedi torsos and will make new ones patterned to the jedi's attires in the CW series. It seems like there isn't a single normal Clone Trooper in the Clone one, since the fourth one pictured on the box also looks orange-ish. I don't think there are regular clones, those are four specialized troopers = ARF, Commando, and Bomb-Squad (the orange-ish one) Quote
NarakuAulonocara Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 I already figured, read my last post. What I meant about Shaak Ti was that I don't like how part of her forehead is printed on the head piece. For the nth time, they are prelim pics, some of my comments in blue. Quote
ThatGuyWithTheBricks Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 KDM, you actually like rubber heads? Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 It's not that mine is probably better. I know LEGO won't do one UCS, and I never intended to purchase it in the first place. However, It's really not that much better than the original V-wing, which itself was almost as bad as the original Sith Infiltrator. I did see blue markings on the ARF, by the way. Without the benefit of clearer pictures, I'd agree that this V-Wing is just a recolored (blue instead of dark red) version of the previous one, maybe with some slight improvements but I'd still expect the basic shape and build. Amongst in the line-up, this might be the one I won't bother to get. If there are blue markings in the ARF, they might probably be the Lightning Squadron type, or another type which we'll about to see in Season 3. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 (edited) I don't think there are regular clones, those are four specialized troopers = ARF, Commando, and Bomb-Squad (the orange-ish one) I also notice they didn't bother to remove the fin from the commando. Battle droid carrier looks goo, though. Edited August 26, 2010 by Brickdoctor Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 KDM, you actually like rubber heads? Yes as opposed to CW faces. I admit they are non-conventional, non-ABS lego plastic that we've been used to, but these rubber heads are more detailed IMO, and will represent alien-type heads better than plastic (that's why the Fisto head is so cool right?) Quote
Clone OPatra Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 I don't think there are regular clones, those are four specialized troopers = ARF, Commando, and Bomb-Squad (the orange-ish one) Yes, looks like two Bomb-Squad troopers to me as well, although the one not pictured above the box looks to have a less-orange helmet. Strange. Also, it looks like we're getting new smaller handgun molds, since the Mando's guns aren't exactly like any we've seen before. Aurra and the "Commando" seem to have them too. I love new guns! Quote
lightningtiger Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Aw yeah ! (Chef Mundal - Chowder) Oh my poor back pocket early next year.....but stacks of new figures....but Quinian Vos does not look CW as the other figures do....odd, but he could change again before January I guess. The bounty hunters and the Mandalorian's I can't wait to get them.....note to one's self - don't let son need them......he has lost bits of Vadar and I just rescued C3PO from the vacuum cleaner ! Hopefully in the comming weeks more pictures of the actual ships are made available....but all the sets are sold on me.....just for the figures alone ! I'm a conformist! ! Quote
CommanderR Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Those action figure minifigures were a bit stupid but don't forget the Mandos are the exact same as the Boba design except the lack of jetpack. The Mandos have jetpacks. Quote
RoryoCox Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 The Mandos have jetpacks. It doesn't look like the one in the minifigure lineup has one. Maybe the others do? Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 I also notice they didn't bother to remove the fin from the commando. Arrgh! Lazy TLG (joke). They went the easy way out and did not make any new helmet mold and just recolored it. So there is only one new helmet mold (ARF), I knew TLG won't pamper us with more than 2 new helmet molds. Quote
CMP Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 I'm seeing 6 or 7 battle droids in Battle of Naboo, and at least 1 Mando has a jetpack. The Mando vehicle does seem to be the Mandolorian speeder bike (As I predicted ) and the Clone vehicle looks like a big BARC speeder. This may be unlikely, but does that R2 unit seem gray or silver to any of you? Quote
prateek Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 It doesn't look like the one in the minifigure lineup has one. Maybe the others do? You can see the neck attachment on the fig in the lineup. Quote

Yep, I also see only one Mando with a backpack, the other three have none. Sorry to be harsh but the Mando speeder bike and the BARC speeder look horrendous, which is 'consistent' with the previous terrible BP mini-vehicles. I mean the designers could've done better than those, this is their perfect chance to do an accurate version of the BARC but it looks like they'll fail yet again. I'm sure there will be better MOC versions that'll surface and put these mini-vehicles to shame once again. This may be unlikely, but does that R2 unit seem gray or silver to any of you? The droid looks metallic silver to me (like the lightsaber). I might have to eat my words and get that V-Wing too (I love astromechs!) Edited August 26, 2010 by KielDaMan Quote
Clone OPatra Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 You can see the neck attachment on the fig in the lineup. I'm not so sure. I think you're just seeing the little sliver of silver above the black line on the torso. The jetpack around the neck would be much bigger. I also noticed that the R2 unit in the V-Wing is the Clone Wars style, which is very odd. The ship is certainly not a CW set, in fact, it can only count as EU. Quote

The Set designers may have wanted more detail but that might have required more parts or parts that cost more. So they have to dumb it down to stay profitable. Lego is a business after all. Quote

I understand the budget factor, but I've seen better alternative versions (from MOCers) of the recent BP mini-vehicles at the same piece count (50-60 pieces I believe). If the MOCers can do that, why can't the official TLG designers right? But I'll have to reserve my final judgement for now until I see the hi-res pics. Anyways, it's the MFs the consumers are after for in the BPs and not these mini-vehicles. EDIT: Sorry, I take back my harsh criticism of the BARC speeder, upon closer look it does seem they got the basic shape right this time, it's just hard to see the details in the small blurry pic. I also noticed there seems to be another blue mini-vehicle in the Mando BP, the one in front is the Mando speeder bike and another blue 'thingy' at the back (does not look like a speeder). Or is it possible that there'll be two Mando speeders? Edited August 26, 2010 by KielDaMan Quote
Rocketbilly Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Correct me if I'm wrong, but on closer examination of the Mandolorian Battlepack, it looks like there's some sort of weapon on a tripod, like the E-web in the Echo Base set. It's in the foreground, near the speeder bike thing. Having said that, there's also what looks like some sort of gun emplacement behind the bike, too, possibly similar to what we've seen in the original Clone Battlepack (2007?) Either way I'm definitely going to get the Imperial V-Wing if I can, and at least one apiece of the battlepacks. I can hope for the Jedi Shuttle, too but that's only really for the lovely Quinlan Vos figure - I find the rest of the ship unappealing and on my very tight budget I can't afford to buy the ship merely for the figure, but sadly I know that I'll at LEAST be able to buy a whole Battle Pack for the amount he'll probably go for on Bricklink. Of course, there's the inevitable Magnet set, but with so many new figures, who's to say he's guaranteed a magnet set appearance? I'm indifferent to the Clones battlepack, though - the ARC or ARF or whatever it is trooper is lovely, and the green Clone "Commando" is great, too - but something doesn't look right about the Bomb Squad troopers, but I can't put my finger on it. I think it might be the helmets - I hope that they are white helmets with orange printing, and not an orange helmet with the small amount of white printed over the top. Im hoping also that both battlepacks will come with those little packets of helmet add ons - you know, the visors/flashlights/rangefinders/antennae and stuff. It would be a nice bonus to get a spare set of pistols and a pauldron/kama included too (as they always come packaged with aforementioned helmet bits) , like in the latest Slave One but I doubt we'll get that. ALSO those new pistols are looking pretty snazzy, eh? I expect one will turn up in Han Solo's hands in future set appearances, it looks very much like his blaster. I hope they're going to be made of hard plastic like the rest of the Star Wars blasters, instead of the slightly softer plastic the original Star Wars pistols have been in. Will/Rocketbilly Quote

I also noticed the blue thingy at the back of the Mando speeder, most likely it'll be some tripod of some sort as you said. But in the CT BP, all I see is the BARC speeder, the white thing you saw at the back might be the long rear part of the BARC. Regarding the troopers, I think the Bomb Squad troopers will have the standard white helmet printed majorly with orange. But I don't think there will be extra gears for the BPs, except the standard weapons and a jetpack for one of the Mandos, One thing I don't see is some type of bomb squad kit, all the BS troopers have are blasters. Just Imagine Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Just saw the new pictures... My thoughts on them: The Bounty Hunter Ship: Other than Aurra Sing I'm not all that excited for this one. Gungan: Ehhh, I'll pass. V-Wing: Interesting... Although it looks like they just gave the old one a new paint job and raised the price. I can't see any difference in the design. The minifigures are nice... Although I wish the torso for the pilot was different from the ones you get in the Tie-Fighters. The R2 unit looks like it's silver, which is nice. I'll probably end up getting this one. Mandalorian Battlepack: I like this one, though I wish they weren't all blue. It looks like at least one person comes with a silver jetpack. Clone Battlepack: I know the figs probably aren't final yet, but ehhh. The ARF trooper, while nice, is a bit too CW for me. The helmet just looks to cartoony for my taste. Clone Commando is a disappointment... The visor isn't the right shape or color, they still have the crest, the colors are kinda... meh. He just looks like another clone trooper. The bomb squad clone is bit more interesting, I like the color. As for the Jedi Ship, not interested in that. Quote

Sorry if I was unclear, I meant that the white thing also seems to appear in the Mando Battle pack, and that I can only see the big bike in the Clone pack, like you said I do hope that the helmets are printed with Orange, that way, if you're so inclined, you could scratch the printing off to get a more realistic, gritty looking figure. I wouldn't do it myself but I can certainly see it being done by customisers. I don't know how they could replicate a bomb squad kit really, I suppose just standard tools, which is a bit low-fi, I can't remember what they use in the show, it's been a long time sine I've seen an episode of The Clone Wars. As long as there's at least one blaster per figure in the battlepacks then that's okay by me. That's what annoyed me about the Imperial Hoth battlepack we have currently - three blasters to go round four figures. I know it's a minor gripe, but come on....you can't take part in a battle without a weapon! looks like everyone's going to get blasters, for what I can see. Will/Rocketbilly Quote
vlai23 Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Wow, while reading the excellent SW Republic comic as it was being published, I would never have imagined that there would ever be an official LEGO Quinlan Vos minifig. I am extremely excited just about that (even if he has to be via CW). Quote
ILikePi Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 (edited) Wow, clear pictures already, and I haven't even bought any of the summer wave sets yet! I'm a bit disappointed how the battle packs look to be only one man vehicles (I may be wrong about the Mandalorian one), but I'm glad that there are still four minifigs! The Mandalorian battle pack, although having no variety, is definitely going to be a popular set, as well as the specialized clones and their battle pack! The ARF trooper mold looks great, and it's always fun to get more variety in our clone armies! The Imperial V-wing doesn't look very interesting, but I do like the silver/grey astromech and pilot with black clone pilot helmet! It doesn't seem worth it, though, since the normal V-wing in 2006 is about the same size as it, but this one is definitely going to be $25 USD. I'm looking forward to the Battle of Naboo set! We finally see a return of Gungans, and a droid with torso prints (excluding the rocket droid commando from the January wave). Also, there appears to be a whole bunch of droids in the set! The Bounty Hunter Gunship contains some cool bounty hunters, but the ship looks pretty small - I'm guessing that only one minifig can fit in it. It's interesting how the assassin droid now has a special printed 1 x 1 round brick (which looks odd, since the head is one plate higher). I don't know much about the three new Jedi minifigs in the shuttle, but they do look nice. The shuttle itself, however, looks odd with its studs on its wings. None of the sets actually disappoint me; they just aren't interesting enough for me to put on my list. I rarely buy any of the January sets except for the battle packs, but next year, I might have to get the Naboo set too! Edited August 26, 2010 by ILikePi Quote
Forresto Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 I'm glad though that these are prelim photos in a sense. I really doubt that they would market the extremely popluar Clones (Clone Commandos from the game) and do a half megablocks job on them. It's more likly like the Plo-clone-Ackbar if anything. Too be honest, the only three sets i'm going to probably buy are the two BPs and the gungan one. However I may try for the green one if it looks better in the final pics. Quote
Fallenangel Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 OMG what is that ugly 'Sugii' thing? Aurra Sing makes sense I guess but a new mold of a weird teddy bear thing is ridiculous, why? And what's with the shoulder pads on 'Embo'? Not even the Darth Vader minifigure has shoulder pads. I can't help thinking LEGO is beginning to go a little overboard on new minifigure molds nowadays, even though we did get some long-desired figures (Wampa, Tauntaun, Bossk, etc.) Are all these new molds really that highly desired as to cause massive price boosts? Mandalorian battlepack? I don't see the purpose in that. Were there Mandalorians in a recent Clone Wars episode or something? V-wing reminds me of 7663, ugly. Black astromech is neat (it was seen on the Death Star, after all), but what's with that Imperial pilot? I've never seen anything like it. Hopefully we'll get the TIE pilot from the Defender in the final. And besides, I thought the astro droid was programmed into the fighter like with the Delta-7? Droid carrier looks all right, but it doesn't seem to carry any more droids than the previous rendition, which is a bit of a letdown. Printed Gungans: expected. "Jedi Shuttle"? I thought they already had Consulars, Delta-7s, and LAAT/is? Who the heck is "Quinian Vos"? I don't know what LEGO is thinking expecting children to be happy with expensive new molds of who appear to be more or less throwaway characters. And do Jedi really need yet another transport? Luke traversed across the galaxy in just his X-wing, Han in just the Falcon, and even Obi-wan traveled all the way to Kamino in just his Delta-7. Plus you can totally tell the T-6 is a ripoff of Asajj's Geonosis fanblade starfighter in the '03 series, and the 'Bounty Hunter ship' of Jaster's Legacy. (But then again, that legacy, too, was ruined...) Quote
