MrLestrange Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 The new Ventress is... really beaudifull! And anakin too! Quote
pranas Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 (edited) Color me disappointed about the advent calender, YUCK! I has hoping it would be more minifigure heavy and have environments instead of mini-vehicles. Oh well, that just means more money saved that I can put towards all the other awesome sets this summer (going to try to get all of them except the Sith Nightspeeder). EDIT: Oh yay, my 10th post! I'm no longer "new" anymore! Edited February 9, 2011 by pranas Quote
metalface13 Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 I think all the new sets look fantastic. I don't have a Millennium Falcon so I am definitely excited for that. I'm also really excited for all the Dark Jedi that will be available. Darth Maul, Asajj Ventress and Savage Opress and Darth Vader! Prepare to give in to the Dark Side. The advent calendar does not have me sold. Why is Nute Gunray in there? Who cares about that guy. Quote
mathias Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Hey, don't give up on that calendar yet. I too was hoping for more environments than minis and some minifigs that were useful in the more recent sets. However, you don't always get what you want and the kids will probably love it. But don't forget: the pic just hints at half of the content and it is only a prelim. Cherish the clone and cross your fingers... By the way, I would have bet heavily on the exclusive fig being a red Vader so Santa Yoda is a surprise. At least for me. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Sadly, it will easily be the best selling advent calendar. Doesn't matter if the models are lacking and minifig selection is average at best. TLG has no reason to try harder on it. Unfortunately so. Color me disappointed about the advent calender, YUCK! I has hoping it would be more minifigure heavy and have environments instead of mini-vehicles. Oh well, that just means more money saved that I can put towards all the other awesome sets this summer (going to try to get all of them except the Sith Nightspeeder). I expected the MINIs, but not of this type. But don't forget: the pic just hints at half of the content and it is only a prelim. Cherish the clone and cross your fingers... I highly doubt that the entire box art front panel is going to be changed. 'Cause that's basically what it would take for me to even consider this set. Quote
StoutFiles Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 By the way, I would have bet heavily on the exclusive fig being a red Vader so Santa Yoda is a surprise. At least for me. By the way, is there anything unique about Santa Yoda that won't be replicated on future winter themed sets? Santa will take this body and backpack... and short red legs are obtainable. The figure is unique now but it will be easily recreated in the future. Quote
Mr Man Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Hmm The new advent calendar, well its a bit silly, too many gimmick but then what would you expect from an advent calendar? Now they have the tall legs from Woody in the toy story sets, they could use them on Chewbacca (in the right colour). Quote

I'll bet the same torso comes in the CIty Calendar. Hmm The new advent calendar, well its a bit silly, too many gimmick but then what would you expect from an advent calendar? Now they have the tall legs from Woody in the toy story sets, they could use them on Chewbacca (in the right colour). It's been discussed before, but if they put them on Chewie they have to use them on Vader, and Vader in the MF is the standard height. Quote

'Cause that's basically what it would take for me to even consider this set. I agree. Surely they'd try and sell it by showing off some of the "better" things in it. I'm sure there will be a nice suprise in there, but I won't be splashing out on one. The mini (vehicles) are of no interest to me, but I'm sure it will still sell like hot cakes. Quote
Muddy Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 (edited) I have counted 125 parts for the 13 known doors Falcon might be more than 9 pcs though I already built the Shuttle, A-Wing, and started the slave-1 glad we got a side view it changed how I thought the parts went... Personally I like the 8-8-8 advent calendars 8 Minifigures, 8 Accessories, 8 minivehicles This one appears to be a 7,7,7 3 left overs It is hard to build an advent set with so few pieces I was hoping Lego would have been creative with minifigures selection Over at my brickshelf - user muddy I tried to make a Clone Wars Advent I ended up with 333 pieces but more expensive ones than in this set The internal requirements to make a model are - must use parts currently available - must have play value (few exceptions - sculptures/architecture) - must be sturdy for self support (not issue for advent) - must be able to be seen (why bldgs do not have backs sometimes, why all empty space is used/accessible - ventator star destroyer great example) - must with stand heat test...(simulates light damages) - official snot techniques only - no clips at weird spots) - must be in cost window (each piece in each color has a value) (factor in license cost) Blah blah blah My point is I see alot of ppl who are "Meh" about the set I am surprised there has not been a contest to make your own official advent calendar - or day Based on official Lego concepts Personally I like all I have seen so far I am curious what the other 11 sets are going to be (assuming accessories) Edit - anybody else what Nute Gunray's Mechano Chair? Walter Kovacs Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 I'm not sure what everyone was expecting out of the Advent Calender, but this is what I thought we'd see. Of course, the only calender I've ever owned was the 1998 version, so my expectations might be skewed. I for one am excited by the prospect of picking this one up. Then again, I do have a MINI\Micro fetish, so those are must haves. And an extra Clone Pilot is always welcome. Quote
j30spiff Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 (edited) Put me down for the Advent Calendar. I'm totally fine with the micro ships as one of the things that I love most about Star Wars growing up were the ships. Edited February 9, 2011 by j30spiff Quote
Stegoceras Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 The Gunship, Shuttle and Slave I will fit in nicely with my micro X-Wing and Tie(Exactly the same as TLC version) and my designs for scaled Tantive IV and Rebel Transport(which I still have to order parts for). Also one more Clone Pilot, that's an excellent addition to any army builder and I love to have one more of them in my collection, good to fill up my Gunship with. Guess I means I'm ging to want this calender. Though I hope it'll be available here, cause I can't remember having seen any of the previous calenders. Quote
Baylego Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Some of those mini models look great! I also like the Santa Yoda, but it seems like Yoda isn't quite fit for the Santa role. I can't think of one, but Yoda just doesn't seem right as Santa. Quote
Fallenangel Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 I don't know where all of the complaints about the Falcon are coming from either. Though I only have the original version myself, I have seent he second version and I thought that is was a vast improvement upon the original, and a fine set in its own right. I think that the flaps on the roof are a great way to make the circular shape and have wonderful, easily accessed playability, and this new version seems to have more interior details than the other two, or at least better-designed details. If some of the sizing is a little off, oh well. That's a toy for you. And the fact that you can only seat two figures in the cockpit... does it really matter? Even if LEGO crammed in four or five seats it still wouldn't be accurate anyway, since the cockpit is quite roomy in the films. I'm not saying that I am going to purchase the new Falcon, but it certainly seems like a good rendition of the ship to me. I would disagree. To say that the sizing is only "a little off" is a gross understatement. Just look at a picture of the real thing and it should be obvious that the inflated cockpit destroys the shape of the ship completely. Not only the size, but the angle of the tunnel extending from the cockpit is all wrong, which in turn causes the mandibles to look even more awkward. And as I've mentioned before, the use of the 2x3 wing plates make the mandibles look skinny and elongated. And those equipment access bays should be huge, nearly as wide as a person is tall from what we see in Empire. Oh, and there's also a great big gap in the front that shouldn't be there. Detail-wise, there's less dark grey on this Falcon than there was on the last one, and there isn't nearly as much hull discoloration and exposed wiring as there should be, making the ship look too clean. This is an ugly representation of the Falcon at best, especially after the groundbreaking 10179 which has none of the issues I've mentioned save for the 2x3 wings (and it shows). Quote
muscleman Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Don't know if i can post that, if no, sorry to mod and forum. but that is a Star Wars Advant calendar no? Quote
Tamamono Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 The Advent Calendar is okay, considering that it's full of mini models. (Although I am pretty happy about the short red legs and new "Santa" torso that Yoda has ) It's definitely a pass for me though; $40 USD is way too much to pay for 5 minifigures and 7 mini models. I'm pretty sure that the Kingdoms Calendar 8 minifigures and and a bunch of useful accessories such as a cauldron or a blacksmith anvil, why couldn't the Star Wars one be a little more like that? They could have 7 or 8 minifigures, 2 or 3 mini models, and a few useful accessories like a gun-rack or one of those lightsaber training balls and a few lightsabers. Quote
mathias Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I highly doubt that the entire box art front panel is going to be changed. 'Cause that's basically what it would take for me to even consider this set. You might be right, but then again I don't think this is even close to the finished box art. In any case, the box art is of course secondary (at least to me) and the minis and figs are probably a good representation of what the calendar will actually contain. Bad for some, great for others I guess. By the way, is there anything unique about Santa Yoda that won't be replicated on future winter themed sets? Santa will take this body and backpack... and short red legs are obtainable. The figure is unique now but it will be easily recreated in the future. True. And slightly dissapointing. But they still have a couple of months to rectify that. Let's hope the calendar at least contains something vaguely unique. Quote
famman47 Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I've analyzed to the best of my ability both of the possible preliminary 7965 Falcon models, and it appears that they are actually significantly different from each other. The first preliminary model of which a picture appeared seems to be approximately two studs wider than the last released system scale Falcon, 4504, as well as about three studs longer overall, while the most recently released prelim pic of 7965 is almost exactly the same width as 4504, while the new mandibles will make it about one stud longer than 4504. All three models have the same six stud gap between the mandibles. If set 7965 has a total of 1238 pieces, while set 4504 had just 985 pieces, there must be some sort of significant difference. It could be that it is a slightly larger model, as the first prelim image suggests, or if it is the same size as 4504, then it might have significanly more interior detail. "Detail" trends have been inconsistent with recent starwars sets; the latest Tantive 4 owes its high piece count to it's relatively hight detail, utilizing many of the smallest elements. On the other hand, the new AT-AT is almost the same size as 4483, but uses significantly fewer parts, and has much less detail in certain areas, especially the legs. So... all things considered, something different definately seems to be up with the new Falcon. Worst case scenereo in my mind would be that the prelim piece count turns out to be on the high side and the actual model appears as the most recent exterior box shot shows (same size as 4504,) and has little improvement on the interior compared to 4504. Given all the evidence, I'm inclined to predict, based especially on the print-ready appearance of the box art in the most recent prelim pic for 7965, that we will be getting a falcon that is almost exactly the same external dimensions as 4504. I just hope it has a kick-butt interior. My favorite part of modding 4504 was creating the access coridor to the cockpit, but that may be a bit much to ask for as an interior feature. I'd like to at least see the layout of the main hold be more accurate--seating booth and game table on the right side instead of the left, etc. Overall, I'm happy for rehashes like this, since it introduces diversity into the line and makes it possible for newcomers to have relatively easy access to models of the iconic starwars ships and locations. On a different topic, is there anyone else like me who would like to see a revisiting of Yoda's Hut? I love the model from the years-back x-wing set. I think it would be an awesome stand-alone set. I also really prefer the original yoda mold to the new one with oversized clone-war eyes. Who else want's a new Yoda Hut? Quote
BrickArtist Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 That is seriously disappointing I mean really? Yoda? Sooo much more they could of done here. Of course, though, they had to go with yoda head on a santa torso. I think I might buy it though, cause the other figs are good. Quote
Fives Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I was just taking a closer look at the Sith Infiltrator, and from what I saw, it looks like the front triangular section will flip up and open like the Venator set. Just have a look at the connection it has to the ship. Interesting! (Also, that Advent Calender is absolute garbage. What a perfect waste of a chance to do something awesome) Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 For SW collectors this advent calendar is definitely a must-have, but for selective buyers like me I might just have to pass on this one. The only element that interests me on this one is Santa Yoda, the rest are easily-obtainable minifigs and mini/micro models that you could always make with spare parts. Quote
brickbuilder Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Heyy! I just realized, that Nute Gunray's hat is printed now Quote
The Legonater Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 the rest are easily-obtainable minifigs Well, all except the Clone Pilot- which I've already said would be one of the only reasons I'd get this set. The pilot's been in what, three sets? Two of them are old and semi-expensive, and the other is a much more expensives set that's still a few years old. Quote
BrickArtist Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Heyy! I just realized, that Nute Gunray's hat is printed now It's never a good idea to base fig speculations of pics where the limbs are in those weird positions. I think it'll be the same fig. Quote
