Brickdoctor Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 But I guess we'll just have to accept this one (at the very least it will be a source of potential ideas for the Single Pane SW Funnies ). Ooh, I got one... You know how when you're a kid, sooner or later you always step on the shovel end of a hoe and the handle whacks you on tue forehead? Looks like that's what happened to Ki-adi. As far as whether or not these models have improved, there's no rwal way to measure that, it's all dependant on your interests, so it's not worth arguing IMO. To me, the MF is a step down if not just because they didn't really improve anything on the accuracy side of things. But that's just me. There's no set 'Improvement' factor to compare a set to. In the end, that's a stat that isn't set in stone, and you're better off discussing the specific shortcomings. Whether or not the shape of the MF is better is specific. Whether or not you think the whole set is an improvement is not. Quote
jansued Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Although I like the design, the Republic Frigate looks like a Chibi Version of the "real" one: Best Regards, JanSued Quote
Brickadeer Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Although I like the design, the Republic Frigate looks like a Chibi Version of the "real" one... Best Regards, JanSued I think that's because the engines are too small compared to the rest of the ship. However, I think the engines have the size they have because TLC uses/used the molt for 35 other sets; while the body of the ship was designed to allow interactions with minifigs, so it couldn't be made smaller. Surfer Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 All the summer wawe jedi are quite awful. Not even close to most wonderful figure ever, Shaak Ti, or Aayla and Saesee Tiin who are also incredible. Quinlan's hair and face are not accurate at all. Ki Adi is ok, but cannot be called "a nice figure". Eeth koth is so ugly that I can't believe TLG made it like this. His horns should at least be 3 times thiner. Quote
Masked Builder Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Eeth koth is so ugly that I can't believe TLG made it like this. His horns should at least be 3 times thiner. Lego can't make them too thin other wise they'd break off. Quote
j30spiff Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 I feel LEGO has done a great job with the new minifigs in their SW sets. There's a line of Collectible Minifigures that are selling like crazy and I feel this focus on minifigs is trickling down to the new sets. I applaud them for their efforts. I think the problem with the new Ki-Adi Mundi minifig is the seam for the elongated head. A single mold for the head (as seen in the preliminary pictures), just looks better. Also, the top piece in the photo looks to be a shade off from the head mold. If the colors are off, it looks like he's wearing some sort of head piece. Quote
Cusm Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 I am super excited for these new sets. Some of the prelim pics looked better, but IMO all the figures look great. My son is going to be super pumped when he sees these pics. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Although I like the design, the Republic Frigate looks like a Chibi Version of the "real" one: [snip] Based on that image, they also put the salon pod on backwards, I think. Of course, they could've avoided the whole thing by just using a double-tall head like in LSW1. I liked that design. It was classically LEGO. Quote
Muddy Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 I've noticed that people are upset we are getting Obi-Wan in the new podracer set. Why!? I know he wasn't in this secen at all, but at least TLG remade him. He isn't the best fig of them all, but at least they completed the TPM cast. No offense to anyone, I just think its a bit silly. I know here we put in an extra figure if you don't complain we won't take one away from a different set... Actually what I would like to see is Commander Gree, & Commander Bly - maybe they should include them in the FV-7 set (cannon from CW Movie) when it comes out. I am tired of getting the same recycled Commanders There are alot of clones they could make that would sell well especially if coupled with other characters... I am glad we are getting a Commander Wolfe - He needs more screen time! Quote
eriochrome Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 While more detail on the falcon would be better, the basic bottom makes it better to play with. If you already have one, then you really do not need it but what star wars collection would be complete without a falcon. The pods are out from pure distaste with their parts in the series. Quote
Fives Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 I actually posted that same pic 4 pages back. The bulbous head protrusion (binary brain) isn't actually the issue, but the noticeable gap between the headpiece and the head. I'm not really hating, I'm quite happy we'll be finally getting Ki-Adi in minifig form, it's just that I hoped for a better (seamless) transition of the headpiece with the head, much like Shaak Ti's. But I guess we'll just have to accept this one (at the very least it will be a source of potential ideas for the Single Pane SW Funnies ). Shaak Ti's head piece wasn't seamless. The section of the head piece that continues her face kinda protrudes out like a big brow. It still looks awesome, but not seamless. Quote
DarthR2-D2 Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 This may have been discussed already but why are the prices so outrageous? I was looking at the Harry Potter sets and they are nothing like this. (Battle for Hogwarts was $50) How come LSW prices have come to prices this high? Like $12 BPs and Ewok Attack for $25? Quote
snefroe Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 hmmm... yet another MF. think most of sw fans have an entire fleet by now... i kinda like the pod racers though. they look quite detailed. the speeder looks fairly weird however... Quote

Most of the kids probably roll through in about a 4-5 year cycle so a good deal of the customer base might not have one. Late Teen or Adult collectors might be different. I do not have one since I am just now getting sets again to play with my daughter after stopping buying lego's in the early ninties. Quote

Like $12 BPs and Ewok Attack for $25? $12 BP's are now standard for Star Wars. We knew eventually the BPs would get more expensive, and with two new Ewoks and 166 pieces, Ewok Attack is around the same value as Luke's Landspeeder. And it's been said before, don't turn this topic into a price rant. Quote
Fives Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 (edited) I just thought of something... Does anybody think that the new Collectable Minifig Fisherman beard would look great on Mundi? Also, has anyone else noticed how most of the figs with lightsabers have the hilts upside down? Edited February 15, 2011 by Fives Quote
Tamamono Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Also, has anyone else noticed how most of the figs with lightsabers have the hilts upside down? I have. But honestly, after seeing Panaka's hat on Qui-Gon, I'm not suprised. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Also, has anyone else noticed how most of the figs with lightsabers have the hilts upside down? Remember, there's no set way to use the hilt. While most people and modern sets use the flanged side down, original 1999 sets show the flanged side up. And some MOCers use them both ways just for variety. Quote
Fives Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 I noticed that Panaka has a new skin colour, but is it a new colour in general? I don't recognize it. Quote
Clone OPatra Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 I noticed that Panaka has a new skin colour, but is it a new colour in general? I don't recognize it. I believe it is the nougat color that was introduced in Prince of Persia sets. Quote
CMP Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 I believe it is the nougat color that was introduced in Prince of Persia sets. I thought it was just flesh. That's freaky. Quote

I think it's been mentioned a hundred times before, but if Australians and Europeans can live with our Lego prices, then Americans sure as hell can. We won't complain if you guys don't, but it's very grating sometimes. Otherwise, there are other threads for this type of thing. Quote
CadBane Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Some questions- 1. How many figures will fit in the frigate? I know 1 in the cockpit and 2 in escape pods, but how many in the main storage space? 2.Are there any close ups on the bottom, inside, or engines of the frigate? Quote
Clone OPatra Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 1. How many figures will fit in the frigate? I know 1 in the cockpit and 2 in escape pods, but how many in the main storage space? 2.Are there any close ups on the bottom, inside, or engines of the frigate? 1. In fact, you can fit five minifigures in the escape pod. One fits in the cockpit, and another one fit in the silly gunner station which is on top of the ship before the engines. All in all, even without the side interiors you can fit in more minifigures than come with the set. 2. Check the FBTB photoset. It certainly has an underside picture, but maybe not engines. Check the videos and you will likely get a glimpse of the engines. Quote
Fallenangel Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Although I like the design, the Republic Frigate looks like a Chibi Version of the "real" one: Yeah, that was an issue with the original 7665 (which I mentioned while commenting on one of the reviews of the set). The biggest issue is the middle section, which is too fat. I had really hoped that LEGO would have sized it down for the new rendition (since that would look better) but they didn't, which is my main gripe about that set. I think that's because the engines are too small compared to the rest of the ship. However, I think the engines have the size they have because TLC uses/used the molt for 35 other sets; while the body of the ship was designed to allow interactions with minifigs, so it couldn't be made smaller. The engines are fine - it's that the middle section is too fat and that the entire region around the salon pod is all wrong. hmmm... yet another MF. think most of sw fans have an entire fleet by now... What do you mean? This is only the third System Falcon we've had. I don't think a whole lot of fans would have bought the other two (10179 was $500, 7778 had no minifigures) and the MINI sets don't even count. I love the Falcon but I myself own only one of the five (7778, and I'm quite happy with it). Besides, very few of us actually buy every single rehash LEGO gives us. Also, has anyone else noticed how most of the figs with lightsabers have the hilts upside down? That's only assuming that the LEGO lightsaber is actually supposed to represent Ben's lightsaber. Otherwise, it's really quite arbitrary, just like the old megaphone blasters. That's one thing I like about minifigure accessories - they're so nondescript and you can generally use them however you want to. Some questions- 1. How many figures will fit in the frigate? I know 1 in the cockpit and 2 in escape pods, but how many in the main storage space? As many as you want, though they won't all be comfortable. 2.Are there any close ups on the bottom, inside, or engines of the frigate? The set looks to have the same basic design as 7665, so you may just want to find some pictures of that on brickshelf. Quote
