Navy Trooper Fenson Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 I just realized, last year we got news of the first UCS in January! So how come we still have no idea of this years? Here is the Brickset article Maybe because there was no poster this year. Normally UCS sets are kept secrets for longer than regular sets. Most of the time the first mention of them is the press-release article on Brothers-Brick and Fbtb a few months before they are released. There are exceptions to this rule, like when lists are coming out like 2009, but otherwise it´s regular to wait for them. Relesedates for UCS sets in the last few years were always september-november. To hear something from sets this far away would be unnormal. It is sure that there are going to be two UCS sets this year. LEGO released two UCS´ (or sets called UCS with a 10XXX number) every year since 2000. Why would they change it now? Quote
The Legonater Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 They've also had a Midi since 2009, and though it's been short the popularity of them is fairly high. Quote
afosl Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 I am pretty sure that every set will have this treatment for the instructions. There have been some of those POTC reviews floating around here on EB and one of the smaller sets, Isla de Meurta, has a review. It has this treatment. I got the latest Slave 1 for Xmas and it's sticker sheet was damaged and unusable so I sent off for a replacement sheet. That arrived attached to cardboard so was undamaged. Attaching the sticker sheets to cardboard was something that I did suggest to Lego, like so many others, when I ordered the replacement. It's nice to know that Lego are listening and hopefully this practice will continue. Sealing delicate pieces in their own bags is a good idea, and I'm glad that's being done more and more. Quote

Well, could it be possible that 'Hoth Echo Base' might be the UCS for this year? It's the only set i cannot find any info on. Have not yet seen anything of it except for the blank announcements on brickipedia and brickset. The former even tells an item no.: 7879. Does not sound like a UCS but still we know nothing about this set, do we? Quote

The only UCS part of the battle of Hoth could be a shield generator, there is no UCS playsets, and none (Except Millennium Falcon, and Imperial Shuttle) come with minifigs (Astromech don't count ) Quote

So it must be something different. However, i'm still curious about the new Hoth set. Is it's announcement official? Strange that nothing has been revealed about it. Solscud007 Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Doesnt the deathstar playset sort of count as UCS? Quote
Brickdoctor Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Doesnt the deathstar playset sort of count as UCS? Technically, since it doesn't have 'UCS' in its name, no. But a lot of people regard it that way because of the price. I highly doubt we'll get a UCS Echo Base. Echo Base Exclusive Playset, maybe. UCS Echo Base, no. Quote
simonjedi Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Who told us the echo base rumour anyway? I'm curious if they had evidence or it was a 'My uncle works several miles away from the lego factory and totally had a beer with the designers who told him' sort of rumour. Quote

Yeah, KimT is almost always right. He gets his extremely reliable info from those who aren't to be exposed, it's easier for everybody if we don't start questioning KimTs info. KimT is very reliable, and only he updates that post. Notice how when a boatload of rumors of rumors came around, and he only put some in the first post? Sometimes when people has confidential info, it's easier to reveal it with an excuse, rather than a rumored set popping out of nowhere. You see what I mean? Quote

Commander Keller Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Well, with all the sets for Hoth that have been done, I think we could see a shield generator, maybe a probe droid? AT-ST? and some troops for both sides. If its in an interior of the base itself, I'd say we get a control room, bacta tank (injured Luke?), some other obscure area. Possible play features would be "snow" caving in areas I guess. Quote

I hope that it will be a big set like 'Battle of Endor' and will feature some outdoor features (gate/turrets) so it can be combined with other sets in a kind of diorama. I got 8038 recently and believe it to be one of the best sets TLG ever made. Hoth, too, possibly more adresses long time SW fans so i hope for a great set. Quote
brickbuilder Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 No, I don't think Echo Base will be one of the 10XXX sets. Every recent year, in the summer-fall wave, we have gotten two retailer exclusives, and two LEGO exclusives. The Naboo SF and the Echo Base set seem to be the retailer exclusives, so the two UCS/LEGO exclusives are yet to be seen. Quote
Fallenangel Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 They've also had a Midi since 2009, and though it's been short the popularity of them is fairly high. Seeing as both eventually went on sale for $25 I was under the impression that they weren't very popular (probably because there were no minifigures ). Doesnt the deathstar playset sort of count as UCS? At this point nothing counts as UCS unless LEGO calls it that. In other words, If Comrade KimT says it, it must be right. No, I don't think Echo Base will be one of the 10XXX sets. Well, if '7879' means anything... Quote
Mr Man Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 Not All the 10xxx sets where UCS (Sandcrawler) and not all UCS are 10xxx (X-wing), UCS are about the aesthetics and accuracy on such a large scale (N-1 ) not the number. The Death Star was a playset not a accurate Death Star. They are only 13 UCS sets 7181 TIE Interceptor, 7191 X-Wing, 10019 Rebel Blockade Runner, 10026 Naboo Starfighter, 10030 Imperial Star Destroyer, 10129 Snowspeeder, 10134 Y-Wing, 10143 Death Star, 10174 AT-ST, 10175 Darth Vader's TIE, 10179 Millennium Falcon, 10212 Imperial Shuttle, and 10215 Obi-Wan’s Jedi Starfighter. . I for one do not want another Hoth set, We have had 21 ESB sets 10 of which have been Hoth sets, as well as two BP's and one UCS. Quote

The number cancels out any possibility of it being an UCS. Who told us the echo base rumour anyway? I'm curious if they had evidence or it was a 'My uncle works several miles away from the lego factory and totally had a beer with the designers who told him' sort of rumour. Brickset and KimTs mentioning in the first post should be enough confirmation. To the set: I can´t see what could be possibly left over to be made. At this point we´ve got every artillery, creature and vehicle distantly related to the battle. We´ve got so many Hoth sets now that names are made by mixing pieces of paper with the words "Hoth", "Rebel", "Echo", "Base" on them and pulling some of them out of a hat. The only thing they could release now would be the interior of the base (finally...) which would be chairs, computers, that cell for the Wampas that was never shown in the movie but in deleted scenes, more hangar bay accesoirs or the ion canon, but with LEGOs panic fear of playsets/edifices other than vehicles I would say we get some recycled mix of what has been made in the last few years with Hoth Rebel Base, Echo Base and all other Hoth stuff. Doesnt the deathstar playset sort of count as UCS? I thought UCS means "Set with 10XXX number and UCS X-Wing, TIE and Yoda statue". S@H exclusive set is normally used by noone. Quote
The Legonater Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 See, I don't mind them doing another Hoth base as long as they get it right. The 2007 one was a nice start, but nearly what every one had hoped. The 2009 'base' was also a good representation of a never-before done scene. But this one- if it's true- needs to wrap it all together. Quote
Commander Keller Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 It worries and excites me that they haven't had any updates about the hoth set. Maybe its going to be a pretty nice 60-100 dollar set with some exlcuisves, a nice interior with some cool features. Or, maybe it will be garbage we will find out soon hopefully. Quote
brickbuilder Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 Well, if '7879' means anything... Well, some people seem to be thinking that it's a LEGO Exclusive, or a 10XXX set, which it obviously isn't. It's one of the two retailer exclusives. Quote
Ki-Adi-Mundi Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 Umm, are they still working on it? I wonder that really nothing trickles through to the public. I also hope for a huge set and would not hestitate to pay 150 bucks if the set has 1300+ bricks, a nice mix of (new) minifgs and combines good features from sets we do already know but probably do not own yet. A pure interior scene would be less appealing to me than a combi. Quote
kamigawa Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 Maybe they are preparing one of those ultra-expensive UCSs that sometimes pop up during the years. Last one was the Falcon, three years ago. I'm not a fan of the Clone Wars series so... does anyone know if some ship or place has been covered loads of times in the series? Maybe they'll try to capitalize on it by releasing the UCS of that ship or whatever it is. Next February Episode I will return to cinemas all over the world, but it' has already been milked to death (apart from the Amidala minifgure, if I'm not mistaken). Quote
