Thanks for the info andrewqwy

Although in my mind it now looks like 7749 echo base with half a 8084 snowtrooper battlepack and a bacta tank tacked on, I'm anxiously awaiting the pictures of the set to remove these horrifying images from my mind.

I definitely agree with that. I'm kind of sceptical now (but i know i will buy it anyway cause... eh... it's Hoth).

Hmm, there better be a snowspeeder in the echo base. And it's better have a new design. TLC manages is to downgrade 4500 with every version since 2004. If they can make a decent AT-ST for BoE, they can create a nice T-47 as well.

Also, there must be more than the 3 main characters and robots on the rebel's side. Abso-freaking-lutely. I am not asking for the troopers, we can buy battle packs. But a few higher ranked ones with Luke's torso from the Wampa cave will be highly appreciated.

From andrewqwy's description, it doesn't sound like either of those criteria have been met. I don't see why The LEGO Group would include vehicles or the main characters when both are already available in 6212 (unless this means they're re-releasing the X-wing?), but hey, they're there!

I have to admit, though, that I find the lack of vehicles rather strange; even 8038 and 7754 had something substantial in that field (i.e . an AT-ST and an A-wing respectively). Hopefully this means we'll see some really nice playset elements reminiscent of what we've seen in other lines.

From The LEGO Group's recent efforts to include rare minifigures whenver possible, I was very much expecting General Rieekan to be featured in this set, but instead we get a red 3PO. Hmm. I'm not usually one to focus too much on the minifigures in a set, but if instead of Luke, Han, and Leia (who are already available in 6212) the set had included, say, Rieekan and some Rebel troops, this would have worked nicely as a companion set with 6212 and the upcoming 7965. (Which reminds me - can 4504 fit through the doors in 7666?)

I'm reminded of Klaus-Dieter and his expectations as to the minifigures in this set...

As I asked my friend for a 2nd look, I was hoping to find a vehicle as well. But the only vehicle I spotted was the snow speeder bike. I'm sure I scanned the picture long enough to not miss a vehicle.

As for being a base, yes I'd say it looks like a base and it's pretty big enough. I would also agree, you most probably can combine all the previous hoth sets with this one to form a big hoth scene.

So there is not any entrance or gate?

The pic i saw was when the base was opened up. It's sort of a foldable structure with one side a battery of guns/missiles kinda thing and the other side you can see a command center i think with some control panel and then the bacta tank. I don't believe i spotted a door or a gate.

Have a feeling I'll be taking this apart to build a more accurate base...I can't see how a folding structure will resemble anything from the movie.

Thanks andrewqwy for the infos on what you have seen. While my imagination cannot yet cope some disparities (no rebel troops, no gate/entrance) there are some interesting spots we can expect. Since none of the more recent, large OT sets did disappoint me, i assume that this one will be good, too. Hoth Leia and a Taun-Taun sound promising. I hope the 'battery/guns' means kind of a real turret and not just some weapon we know from the BPs.

Still, an official pic (isn't it time for such one???) or announcement would be good and not too much asked for, IMHO.

BTW, it seems the base is intended to combine with other Hoth sets. That makes me wonder a little. Larger sets use to make excellent playable scenes in their own right. Why should TLG deviate from this now?!

Umm, if 7749 weren't such rare and terribly overpriced in my country, i'd desperately try to get one. Just to get sure. But - it goes for 39.99 € atm, which equivalents some 55-60 USD. For just 155 bricks!!! :oh:

@andrewqwy: Thank you for the infos and your answers. I think i can imagine what it looks like know. I'm still disapointed but pretty curious too.

@ki-adi-mundi: Try to bricklink 7749, you can get it for 15/20 euros. I'm looking toward 7666 but except the probe droid (that can be made otherwise) and the K3PO, the only appealing thing is the gate. But for 80/100 euros i think i will pass (or make one from spares).

Minifigures: 2 x Snowtroopers, 1 x Han in Hoth outfit with Tauntaun, 1 x Chewbacca, 1 x Princess Leia in Hoth outfit, 1 x Red Protocol Droid (Red C-3PO), 1 x Medical Droid (2-1B), 1 x Luke Skywalker (half naked in Bacta Tank). Surprisingly there are no Rebel Troopers...

Vehicles: 1 x Snow Speeder Bike, 1 x E-web Heavy Repeating Blaster

Description of set: It's like a kind of foldable structure. One side consists a battery of guns for defence and the other side is a command center with a medical area that holds the Bacta Tank.

Number of pieces: Looks like a 700-800 piece set (Think Battle Of Endor size)

It sounds OK but not particularly thrilling, especialy after the wait, for an average set like this its a bit of suspense leading up to something like this.

Hi guys, I managed to have another look at the upcoming Hoth Echo Base set and this time I made sure I stared it for a good few minutes to memorize everything I see. Here are the highlights:

Minifigures: 2 x Snowtroopers, 1 x Han in Hoth outfit with Tauntaun, 1 x Chewbacca, 1 x Princess Leia in Hoth outfit, 1 x Red Protocol Droid (Red C-3PO), 1 x Medical Droid (2-1B), 1 x Luke Skywalker (half naked in Bacta Tank). Surprisingly there are no Rebel Troopers...

Thank you for this valuable information!

This actually sounds like a very interesting set to me. Apart from the fact that there's no Rebel troopers, the minifigure selection sounds quite good. I think that the red protocol Droid will be very nice, and the injured Luke sounds like a very good concept. What's the Leia like? Does she have a new torso print, and does she have the new MF hairpiece?

I like the idea of a hospital area, and the vehicles sound quite good. I'm glad were getting another Taun-Taun, because I never got the last one. It sounds like a decent sized set, if it is around the size of the BoE. May I ask what the exterior looks like? Is it nothing like the real thing, or is it actually true to the film?

Thanks again for the information! And thank you omot and Bane for the links to the review!

From what I remember from the film, Echo base was more of an "indoor" base if I'm correct. This set looks more of an "outdoor" set to me. Leia in Hoth outfit looks good (looks very much like this), the bacta tank is a nice touch with the 2-1B medical Droid, the battery/missiles didn't really impress me. When I looked at it, it looks more like a bunch of flicker missiles.

Thanks for the information andrewqwy and for that awesome review of the "7964 Republic Frigate" omot!

Commander Wolffe has a cyber eye? Well Lego, you haven't just made my day, you've made my year! He looks quality. By far the best Clone minifigure made by Lego. The attention to detail for Wolffe is superb as he wouldn't have been easy to make a minifigure from, especially with creating the cybernetic eye and scar for him.

As for the "7879 Hoth Echo Base". Thanks for this information! I have to say it's better than I anticapated. The minifigure list is good. It contains four of the important OT characters (Han, Leia, Luke and Chewbacca) a figure that has only appeared in one set before (Medical Droid), a new figure (Red Protocol Droid), a new outfit figure (Luke again) and a troop building figure (Snowtrooper of which there are two).

As for the vehicles, it will be good to have another speeder bike and the repeating blaster. Plus the base sounds good with that medical area with bacta tank.

I'm impressed. It's rare these days that I get interested in an OT set but, depending on when we see pictures, I might just get this :sweet:

Thanks, yes. I looked it up there already and it would be feasible to get it a little cheaper (30 bucks plus shipping) but still this is very expensive for what you get, IMHO.

Yes! Review about the republic frigate is online on imperiumdersteine: http://www.imperiumdersteine.de/showthread.php?p=520995#post520995

Thanks you two for reviewing / sharing and letting us know. I was not planning to get the set but it looks much better than expected. I might think it over again. While i don't like the character (i never loved supermen anyway), Quinlan Vos has a very good face and torso printing. Same for the clones, whichever 'name' they might bear.

Is it possible to place all figs inside the ship? What can one do with the 'side compartments'? Do minifigs fit into them?

My fears that this was going to be a copy of the Cruiser, with exception of color scheme and escape pod shape, can be laid to rest. There are plenty of differences.

I have to say, i think this is a cleaner looking model than the Cruiser, and i much prefer this color scheme over the red and orange of the Cruiser. The use of the space doesn't look promising, and the Sidious hologram, while lovely, seems out of place on this ship, unless I'm forgetting if it was shown on the ship in an episode. I generally lament the use of space on these capital ship sets. Still, i like this better than what was done with the Venator.

The figs are what we've come to expect...very detailed.

There was a Leia in Hoth outfit with the last X-Wing Fighter #6212, wasn't there?

Yepp, KAM, the minifigs fit twice of them in the "side compartments" ... ergo: 2 x 2 = 4 Figs ... and one in the rear-canon-cabine ... one on the ship's bridge ... and about three or four in the salon-cabine (under the bridge) ... summa summarum ... 9 to 10 figs on board!

Have you seen, that the lightsaber green has - as pronounced - a new coulor?! I've made an edit in my review right now:

Sry if i misinterpreted it. I hope that the set offers kind of both, indoor and outdoor. For a good standalone set like BoE, i gladly spend 100+ bucks.

Thanks for your swift answer. While i do not intend hoarding minifigs in a ship  , it is very good to know that there is quite some room inside the ship. A set this size should offer moveable features and opportunities to (re)create scenes with it. It seems that this prerequisite was met. Considering again, the set becomes more and more attractive. Basically all figs are well designed. TLG even did some elaborative leg printing which is always good. The set might find addition to my this years' 'must haves'. This would lead to me breaking a vow to not buy anything about the animated series.

Did i already mention that your review is excellent?!

I'm wondering if all the Hoth/Echo Base sets ever made are meant to go together ?

Odd, that Vader isn't included as he is one of the first to enter the base in the film looking for Han and Leia. It seems to cover two seperate stories - one Luke in the Bacta tank while the other Han and Leia escaping the snowtroopers. Like I said no Vader, also no C3-P0 or R2....though who needs another R2 eh ? (Too if we all don't have at least four orfive of them somewhere  )

Well, I'll buy one of these to join my TRU 2007 Hoth Base and of course Echo Base.

May the brick be with you !

What do you mean? He only stated the highlights, like he said.

Vader, C-3PO and R2-D2 aren't anything new and seen in sets many times before, so he probably didn't count them as highlights.

There's still a chance that they'll be in there.
