sacredvolt501 Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 (edited) Well the site said that it is only available in stores. Mine doesn't have it. Really? Where does it say that? toysnbricks.com also mine does not have it either, but at least we know where its going to be exclusive at Edited June 1, 2011 by sacredvolt501 Quote
Gregorovich Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Thanks very much for that link, SuperSonic! This set is a little disappointing, but it still looks great. It looks likes there's a lot to play with in it, and the minifigs are great. Thanks again! Quote
sacredvolt501 Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Here we go! http://starwars.lego.com/de-DE/Products/7879.aspx Wow...I'm speechless I'm loving it!!! Quote
Brickdoctor Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 We love you, Supersonic! Funny, these were the exact same thoughts that went through my head as well. Same here. Honestly, if not for the Tauntaun, I'm not sure if I would've recognized this as Hoth on first glance. It's like they took a couple details, squished them into that right half, added a left half that I guess is supposed to be a hangar, and tossed on a bunch of details like an MOCpages kid adds to his clone base. Two sensor dishes? And are those AA turrets? And then it's like they wanted to add a second level to the base, and called it a day after a gantry and a storage area that it looks like no minifig would be able to access without the HOG.Overall...not impressed at all. But I'll probably get it for the minifigs. And here's a bigger pic: Quote
mordatre Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Now kids can finally let their C3PO rip them stickers! Quote
Mr Man Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 (edited) Thanks Supersonic. I blink and then pow!! Bloody Hell We finally we get a pic, and boy am I underwhelmed. Apart from the Bacta Tank, there is no recognisable part of the base at all. Oh and another bloody spederbike, bet it will be different than the one from 7956. Edited June 1, 2011 by Mr Man Quote
Clone OPatra Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 X-wings, of course. Uh, ok, but it seems you haven't been looking at the picture of the set in relation to my post. That walkway is up on top of the set, you can't stick an X-Wing under there. Quote
TheBrickHitHouse Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Hmm, part of me likes it, the other part things it's missing a snowspeeder. Ah well, got one kicking around anyway Quote
Fallenangel Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 First, thanks a lot supersonic for the new pic . Back in to the set, I am REALLY dissapointed . Don't really know what the designer of that set was thinking at the time but that bunch of random elements don't even come close to resemble the Hoth Echo Base. The only recognizable scene in the whole set is the Bacta Tank Chamber and that just occupies one corner of the whole thing. Everything else appears absurdly out of place. Random walkway? Random radar dishes everywhere? Random turrets on top of the left wing of the base? It is not a badly designed set on it's own but is a blasphemous attempt at recreating one of the most recognizable battles in the whole saga. The minifigures are pretty good; sure, I wished we got some new characters instead of just one recolored protocol droid but to be honest, minifigures alone don't really sell me a set. They obviously need to be worthwhile but I see the ones included here as such so that not a big issue for me. What is horribly wrong is the base itself. Just after we got some great and truly remarkable playsets in The Battle of Endor and the Home One this comes from nowhere to bring back shame over LSW playsets. In my eyes, this must be the worst designed LSW set so far for the line. Why? Because the designer achieved for the first time in the history of the line to make a set nowhere close in apperance to that of its source material . System sets don't have to be accurate. Ever. Though it's nice when they try... We love you, Supersonic! Same here. Honestly, if not for the Tauntaun, I'm not sure if I would've recognized this as Hoth on first glance. Overall...not impressed at all. But I'll probably get it for the minifigs. And here's a bigger pic: I agree that the set isn't recognizable as Echo Base at all (looking at the larger picture, all I'm thinking as I see the entire right half is "WTF?!") but if you ask me this is a playset in its purest form... after having heard from, well, pretty much everybody, that LEGO sets as kids' toys do not aim for accuracy in any way, I find this set strangely tolerable. Overall, it looks like a really fun playset, and thinking of the tree thing in 7956 I think this is the direction LEGO is headed. So while we will probably never see a playset in the manner of 8038 again, I think we will see something more like this... @Clone O'Patra: Yes, I noticed that when Thego pointed it out. Perhaps the set is modular? I see "lights" around the base of the walkway; maybe the second level is removable. If not, well... I'm stumped. The module explanation, though, would explain why everything looks so slapped together on the box. Quote
darkrebellion Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 (edited) System sets don't have to be accurate. Ever. Though it's nice when they try... I know System-sets are never completely accurate but never since I started collecting the line back in 2001 have I seen such a representation of a vehicle/scene . I don't mind minor inaccuracies like wrong-angled wings in the Snowspeeder or over/minor sized vehicle sections, that doesn't really bother me at all since I have came to undestand that not everything can be exactly replicated and function as a toy at the same time. In this case, however, the designer seems to have just thrown a bunch of random sections together with no coherent relation between them at all. For the TLC to release a LSW set they must first get it approved by Lucasfilms. It is surprising they decided to give this thing a go since everything apart from the minifigures isn't recognizable at all. Edited June 1, 2011 by darkrebellion Quote
Clone OPatra Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 So while we will probably never see a playset in the manner of 8038 again, I think we will see something more like this... I don't know why you say we will never see a Battle of Endor type playset again. It came out too recently to call its style a thing of the past. LEGO has made little control centers like the one in the original B-Wing several times; 7666 had one of them. While many people might claim 7666 was just a door, I really was hoping for a base that had a similar but perhaps smaller door, with the two folding bits sticking back having full walls and then interior. Alas, we got this big hot mess instead. Quote
Jedi master Brick Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 (edited) A buy for me but the size is disapointing Edited June 1, 2011 by Jedi master Brick Quote
CF Mitch Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Yaay, Hoth pics The set looks really great. But I won't be buying it because it's rather big (and probably very expensive) and right now I'm focussing on PT and CW LEGO, so... But I will admit that it has a lot of great stuff, my favorite being Luke in the bacta-tank with the Med Droid You guys have fun drooling over it Regards, Mitch Quote
Kaitan Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 I for one am glad it doesn't have a snowspeeder. The inapproriate inclusion of one in the wampa cave set, in a perverse way, kind of balances out the exclusion from this set That said, I'll probably only get this for the figures, I doubt I'll bother building the actual set. lol! Alas, we got this big hot mess instead. I agree. I don't see why they didn't do an 8038 design for this. You have blast doors that open the same way, and everything else is just covered in snow so they could use as much space as they wanted with the fold-out area. just make it as big as you want and cover the outside with white rocks. Even if they were BURPs it wouldn't be as bad as what we got. And at the very least the hangar should fit a T-47. This one looks to shallow to hold one. Quote
sok117 Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Thanks for the news, but IMO this set is really lacking. I'll make a list to make it easier to read what I see Bacta Tank room, with the medical bed? thing next to it, looks like it swivels which would be good Next to that is the control room, The one big trans piece is nice, but it will most likely be a sticker. Behind these two modules, it looks like the used BURPs to achieve the walls, that would be okay, except for the fact that they are dark bley, whcih kinda ruins effect Theres a weapons rack between medbay and control room, so when the rebel soldiers need to fight off the imperials, they can grab their... oh wait Above the right side is a cat walk Underneath the cat walk is what looks like a transport system for boxes to the left of that is a double radar dish, which looks really lame IMO underneath that is a door with poles sticking out, I hope that TLC isn't trying to pass those off as icicles, cause the ones in Wampa cave were much better. To the left of that is a copy of the door with more boxes on top Leads me to believe that the boxes have some way of traveling from there to the catwalk and/or back again To the left is a tall structure that leads me to believe that that is the front door The AA guns look really pitiful, and they are most likely place on the front facade even further right is a weird looking turret which I hope to god that TLC isn't trying to pass that off as the Ion cannon, I would lose all faith in TLC The two black bars on the ground near the front door look like a track system a la indiana jones boulder? however, if you look on the weird looking module, it appears as though it is holding a tauntaun reins piece, which leads me to believe that the front door area is like a holding pen for the tauntaun Lastly there is a weird power generator thing in the front left corner, next to which is a big gap, and I have no idea what these things are. Leia looks as though she'll have all new prints though for her jacket, and Han might use the series 5 eskimo hood! Quote
Brickdoctor Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 even further right is a weird looking turret which I hope to god that TLC isn't trying to pass that off as the Ion cannon, I would lose all faith in TLC Pretty sure that's supposed to be a P-Tower, in which case I honestly have no idea why they couldn't use a 6-wide dish instead of this puny thing. It's not like there aren't any already in the set. That double radar thingy could've been put to better use as a pair of P-Towers. Quote

I don't know, TLC seems to have decided on a design for that turret a while ago, they always use 6-wide dishes, I don't know why they would stop now, but I see the resemblance. Quote
Fives Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 WOW! That set is awesome! It reminds of the Home One set, only done up for Hoth. Its awesome! I have noticed a couple of things that are interesting: The medic droid is in a light blue sort of colour, there is a rack with about four blasters, and I can se the Tauntaun reigns, but where is Han and the Tauntaun! Quote
Brickdoctor Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 The translation of the page: Get ready to attack! The imperial troops have discovered the secret Rebel base on the ice planet Hoth and prepare for battle. Han Solo, Chewbacca and Princess Leia stand ready to defend the base, while Luke Skywalker in Bacta tank, and it is handled by Medical Droid 2-1B. Also contains R-3PO Protocol Droid and two Snowtroopers. With base-stable and Tauntaun, functioning crane, two stretchers rotating radar dishes, ice fall, and speeder bike. 'base-stable and Tauntaun' leads me to believe that the right side is indeed a Tauntaun holding pen. Quote
Blackknight112 Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Thabks for the pics and info. I must say I was really looking forward to this set, but this is a great disappointment. It just doesn't look like the hoth base. This is a no buy for me! Quote
StoutFiles Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 The description says there's a crane...where is it? Unless the catwalk is actually a crane? That would explain the box under it... Quote
