White Cat Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 Please consider about the price, bro. IMHO the DS is too big to store left alone space to play with it, a lot of people here have kids and DS is too expensive for a child. I'm adult now, but I still love the normal Lego than UCS because I like to look into the interior, and see it function about hangar, door, or stuff..... So, basically the DS is a really great set but has just too much inconvenience, of course, only IMHO . Quote
sharky Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 Also, I just found out on Target.com that the mini set (30052 AAT) is available in stores...but also ummm, I have not seen this for myself Hopefuly though it is true, so just keep your eyes open for that set Cool. That means that at least it will be out there somewhere soon. When I checked the availability in the stores around me they all say "Out of Stock" I think it's still early. At least now I know to start looking for it. Quote
Navy Trooper Fenson Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 Everyone says the Endor set is the only good playset...did everyone here already forget about the Death Star? It's the king of playsets. You can´t compare a monster like the Death Star that is four times the price of the Endor and Hoth sets we talk about with them. The point of using Endor as example is to have something to compare with the 7879 on the same price level. This new base is an abomination and looks more like something an eight-year-old would build out of the leftovers of a police station, a few battlepack vehicles and half of a 25buck set. After so many years of half finished buildings and bows instead of real houses and bases I expected for some variety a ground plate the size of the single green ones they sell with a gate, maybe as big as the 7666 Rebel base one and two or three levels. The ground is a hangar bay for the 7965 Falcon or some X-Wings and Snowspeeders and the levels above would be the hospital, Lukes room, warroom, corridor, etc. In fact, the right side of the base would be good enough as second floor, it just needs to be a bit wider with a few walls and doors and it would fit very well or could even stand as its own set. The left and front side are completely unecessary and just serve to catapult the price from 40/50 to 90/100. I think the most annoying thing about every Hoth base ever is the lack of walls. It should have at least on one side some plates in shell shape or even better bricks and plates arranged like in one of the numerous awesome base mocs we see on Flcikr and Brickshelf. But no, instead we get some arches as if this were some lame roman aqueduct and randomly cobbled turrets looking more like something even a battlepack wouldn´t even consider as an extra. The redesigns of the big three are otherwise rather unneeded. Leia only changed minimalistic and looks exactly like my kitbashed Leia based on the exact look of her from the film. Han is wrong as always, he obviously wears light grey trausers and not tan, what do they use for reference that they always do it this wrong? Bacta Tank Luke as seen for a whole of six seconds is only good because of the undetpants and the resulting whacky highjinks you can send your fleshie figures on now. I have never seen R-3PO and I probably won´t ever feel the need to have one. We already got pearl and darkgold, black and white. What comes next? Green? Blue? Or do they finally manage to do a Cloud City remake and fit in a metallic or grey one? Chewie could have been printed with a few white spots like when he went out in the cold in one scene. When there are already over ninethousaaaaaaaand versions of Han, Luke and Ledia running around they could at least try to give Chewie a third one (the other two are Chewie in oldbrown from before 2004 and in newbrown from after 2004). And now a message for the Snowtroopers: We´ve got them in seven sets, including a friggin´ BATTLEPACK. Why can´t they be so enthusiasticly about Stormtroopers? Or finally release some Galactic Marines from Revenge of the Sith in this red/violet uniforms? All in all: The only positive thing about this set are the first offical LEGO underpants. Finally something comfortable to wear for them in place of this annoying thongs. Quote
giggitygoo Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 The latest Star Wars LEGO animation on the LEGO site features many sets which are advitised through the film. It also frequrently feature Jabba with coloured in eyes also some other interesting figures including the cantina band, could these be possible features in future sets? I sure hope so! Quote
Fallenangel Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 You guys are hilarious. So was I right? Me and my brother were talking about this set earlier and both agreed that TLG really nail getting the ships right but struggle with the play sets (with the exception of the Endor set). Nah... By the way, for whoever wanted the side-by-side of the System Falcons, I found these on brickshelf: Also: Quote
Strand Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 Digging the new Echo Base set. Pros -No more Snowspeeder! I'm picking up way too many of these things. -2-1B minifig! I was almost about to get the 8096 Palpatine's Shuttle mostly just for this. Red Protocol Droid is a bonus too. Cons -Not modular. I know it's fairly easy to MOC it all together, but if there were easy attachment points for the previous 7749 and 7666 Hoth sets to just clip on to complete the base, would have been better. -Another Hoth Leia/Chewie. Probably would have preferred a General Rieekan or even that pretty gun operator who I had a bizarre boyhood crush on. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 Everyone says the Endor set is the only good playset...did everyone here already forget about the Death Star? It's the king of playsets. I disagree. 8038 was an excellent playset because it looked quite complete on the outside and it had half the minifigs of 10188 for a quarter of the price. By the way, for whoever wanted the side-by-side of the System Falcons, I found these on brickshelf: [snip] Huh. From that angle I'm liking the shaping of the new one better. Quote
Strand Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 Huh. From that angle I'm liking the shaping of the new one better. It's Fallenangel. Don't encourage him. Apparently the very medium of chunky plastic blocks is fertile ground for pedantic whining followed by a slew of embedded images (usually of models detailed beyond the scope of Lego). Quote
Mr Man Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 See!! Not even half of TLG speeder bikes and not one single bloody one the same *sigh*, can't they just settle on a design? Quote
StoutFiles Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 I disagree. 8038 was an excellent playset because it looked quite complete on the outside and it had half the minifigs of 10188 for a quarter of the price. Huh. From that angle I'm liking the shaping of the new one better. Yes, if you bring price into it then Endor is best. I bought two Endor sets, it was a great set. All I'm saying is if you showed a kid both sets and told him to pick one to play with, DS would win almost all the time. These comparison pics make me feel better about the new Falcon. Not relieved, but I do feel better about it. Quote
Mr Man Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 These comparisons show just how much lego changes but still won't just do things properly. Geo SF, take the printed nose pieces and the smaller better gun from the old and add to the new. NSF, it's harder to be specifically but a mixture of the two would be better than ether of them. And the SI, Well take the curved wing pieces from the old one, and add to the new, and smooth the new one out so there's less studs. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 NSF, it's harder to be specifically but a mixture of the two would be better than ether of them. I doubt that would fix much as they're basically the same design. The new one just has updated pieces and slightly different play features. IMO, no LEGO set has ever done the N-1 justice. They just don't capture the elegant feel of the craft. And as expensive as it might be, an N-1 is not an N-1 without the chrome. (though that's not to say the UCS one was a great set) Quote
DarthR2-D2 Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 So was I right? Nah... By the way, for whoever wanted the side-by-side of the System Falcons, I found these on brickshelf: I can honestly say I don't know which is which Quote
White Cat Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 I can honestly say I don't know which is which Well, the right one is the new one and the left one is the old one. Quote
Ceroknight Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 Thank you for the Infiltrator review! I might actually pick this one up! Quote
Churchill Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 (edited) So, Fallenangel posts comparison picks, which I think are a welcome addition, and he still gets criticized ("don't encourage him")? Why is it that some people just want to bash Fallenangel any opportunity they get? Anyway, I don't really like the Sith Infiltrator. This was the one I was looking forward to the most, but the "accessories" really seem lacking to me. A lightsaber and gun stand? Why do we need that? And his speeder bike just looks like something thrown together with extra pieces. Having now seen the Ewok attack, the Hoth set, and the Sith Infiltrator up close, I'm really disappointed with this wave overall. I know that's a subjective opinion, and others will disagree with me. But I just finished building Mill Village Raid and Medieval Market Place, and I can't understand why the SW sets seem poor in comparison. Edited June 2, 2011 by Churchill Quote
Fives Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 Wit those comparison pics, I can honestly say that the new Falcon is SO much better than the 2004 version. It just looks so much better! Same goes for the Geonosian ship and as for the N-1, they really aren't that different, but the cockpit on the new one is executed way better on the new one. Quote
CadBane Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 (edited) I'm planning on doing a large mod when I pick the Echo Base up. Other than these issues, is there anything else I should include? -Too Crowded -Bad Placement of Rooms -Bad Gun on left side -Random gun placement -No V-150 Ion Cannon -No Rebels -Only 1 Taun-taun -No Good Shield Generator -Not enough imperial forces I've got the 2 Hoth Battle Packs and I own 7666 with the wall, so I plan on building around the set with the extra minifigs and features while heavily modding stuff like the guns, shield, ect. What I probably won't be able to do is make an accurate roof, as a) I don't have enough grey without destroying a lot and b) I ust don't expect I'd have the patience to build it accurately. Anything else? Edited June 3, 2011 by CadBane Quote

Artanis I Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 Consensus seems to be after seeing the side-by-side comparison that the new Falcon is the better one. Despite the front being too long & skinny, I agree. Definitely looks the better of the two. Quote

sacredvolt501 Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 NABOO STARFIGHTER NABOO STARFIGHTER!!!!!! I just now realized why the blue carrier has missiles!!! Look under the Naboo Star Fighter and you will see that it fires blue missiles! I believe that the missiles in the carrier are NOT for that but rather for the Naboo Star Fighter...in fact i think the carrier is pretty much a portable tool rack lol Well, the right one is the new one and the left one is the old one. You can tell by looking at the "sand" colored pieces. Quote
