Lobot Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 I’m not usually interested in PT sets, but I’m quite tempted by 7962. The Podracers look beautifully detailed, and far better than the previous versions. I was determined to buy the new Echo Base but, after seeing the new photos, perhaps I’ll invest one of these instead! Quote
Delta 38 Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Well, I own the Sith Infiltrator and Podracers now. The Sith Infiltrator is a bit more "unfinished" than I thought, especially on the sides of the body. Back on topic, I've just realised something about the Hoth Base set. Since the two halves are hinged, you can either make it a complete room or a corridor! That's pretty cool. Quote
Future74 Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 (edited) Thanks Supersonic for finding the Hoth base pictures I'm not sure what to think of this set, my expectations were a little different... The bacta tank with luke and medical droid is a nice feature though. This set has to grow on me. Edited June 7, 2011 by Future74 Quote
willybob Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Well after some thinking, this Hoth Set is a cool starter for a young kid looking for a nice playset. Then it can grow with Hoth BP , some AT-AT, Snowspeeder, and other Hoth based sets to make a nice battlezone. For grown up collectors, this set is just useless, vene for some diorama, as the walls and the global structure is just made for play not display With this LEGO will find some new young fans looking for much more playability (Which is very limited on some sets) Quote
Jedi master Brick Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 (edited) Looking at all the sets to vome out this year I find must of them quite good, ok mabye the echo base set as an amoury med center an comanded center all in one, but how much more expensive would the set be to seperate them, it does its job well as a playset but still its not the best set. For grown up collectors, this set is just useless, vene for some diorama, as the walls and the global structure is just made for play not display With this LEGO will find some new young fans looking for much more playability (Which is very limited on some sets) Quoted for truth from an objective perspective. From my personal stance, i can partly agree. Not at all playing with the sets i own, i could of course live without any playing features or just very few of them. However, just for display one would not have to buy LEGO and pay such high prices. Pure display models can be purchased for fractions of TLG's prices. Nevertheless, LEGOs inspire a multitude of memories from childhood one can be very fond of. Next to this nostalgia, for an AFOL the sets actually have the side effect of being moddable to a maximum extent (creativity), have those funny little brickmen and hobbies like photography, humorous exprsssionism and stuff can be used to benefit from ownership of the sets. Without play value, the unique selling proposition would disappear. Your point is absolutely valid: Just like Lucas Arts with their CW animated series, TLG requires to breed a future group of potent customers who already have a word on their parents' budget and spending as children. As a six or eight year-old, one would be absolutely amazed to play with 7879. In this regard the new Hoth base is almost perfect, i think. Thus that's the way for TLG to go. OT fans (fools like me) will still consider getting it for the above told reasons. In my case this one will get a place on my shelf for sure. The overall design and combination of contents is clever enough to offer something special/new/desirable (choose your preferrence) to make it attractive. Since the set is more or less outlined to be a playset, the price hopefully not skyrocket away from the reasonable. Children still must concvince their (grand-)parents that this is a wonderful and worthy toy that can be afforded. Due to the above considerations, i think that pricing will have dear impact on the overall economic success of the set - more than it has on other sets who have more stuff to make them longlasting classics. sok117 Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 anyone manage to find a review of the millennium falcon yet? I'm really anxious to hear an AFOLs opinion! Quote
Mr Man Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 anyone manage to find a review of the millennium falcon yet? I'm really anxious to hear an AFOLs opinion! We already have several opinions , but still nor reviews. Quote
Ogre Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Oh my, that's gorgeous. I wouldn't have thought that one can do so much without all sets of a theme (i.e. scene) gathered together. You really optimised to get the max out of your sets and successfully avoided flooding the whole room with your hobby. I hope you have a glass cabinet and some cover to deny the sun bleaching your precious treasures. Yes. Sort of. The cabinet is a 'Billy' bookcase from IKEA, with wood-framed glass doors and the top two shelves are glass, instead of wood. The drapes and blinds in that room only get opened for picture-taking. Otherwise, sunlight is BANNED! Quote
Gregorovich Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Is there a review on the Falcon yet? That question was answered two posts above your's. But, yes, I think that most of us are also looking forward to a review. I was wondering, seeing as the two pictures we've got are officially from TLC's website, can we expect better, closer pics of Hoth Echo Base anytime soon? Quote
anti-hero Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Is there a review on the Falcon yet? There are a couple ratings on the lego shop page for 7965, one with a short write up and a few pics. Not a full review but I was glad to read some initial thoughts on it. Quote

TheDarkness Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 I was quite looking forward to getting the latest MF, as I don't have one yet. However, looking at the latest version, it seems a bit lacking. I can't quite put the finger on it yet. It might be something I pick up on discount later on Quote
TheBrickHitHouse Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 New falcon surely has to be considered the best system one yet, lots of nice touches especially the landing gear. That said what is up with the mandibles?! Quote
White Cat Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 I don't know much about Millennium Falcon because I never own it. But as far as I can see, the new interior doesn't look as good as the old one, especially the hyperdrive. That's a downside to me cause I really love the interior with machine and clear part. The new cockpit is great, btw. Quote
SWMAN Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 I'm honestly pretty tired of the multiple Millenium Falcon's that Lego has been releasing. All of them are very similar and besides some cosmetic differences they'e all pretty similar. I would rather have Lego release a different large vehicle that has not been released before. Quote
Lobot Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Overall, I still prefer the older version (4504) which I owned until I bought the UCS one. On the plus side the top cannons are a vast improvement, although the landing feet look awful! At least they’ve kept the blue band for the engine which I always had a soft spot for. I added a couple of technic LEDs to either end of it, plus a couple more in the cockpit , and I was really pleased with the results! Quote
Churchill Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 The mandibles looking even more disproportionate in that last side view. I think that the blue tubing looked fine for the engines in the midi version, but not this one. Landing gear isn't very inspiring. Overall, I'm still not impressed. Quote
kamigawa Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Wasn't in these days going to take place some sort of LEGO expo? I read some time ago that it was often the time when new details about UCSs were revealed. Quote
