Brickdoctor Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 I personally like the idea of having four generic Mandos. I would like to have 4 different Mandos, since I'm not going to build an army of 'em; but from the looks of it, I'd say we'll get two generic and two others. I'd also be willing to bet that the two others are different from each other, so we get a 2-1-1 arrangement, like the '07 Clone BP and Snowie BP. Quote
prateek Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 The more I look at the BARC, I like it more and more. The back is looking really cool, especially with the 1x4 curved piece and the harpoons Quote
Brickdoctor Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 The more I look at the BARC, I like it more and more. The back is looking really cool, especially with the 1x4 curved piece and the harpoons Personally, I find the new BARC to be majorly inferior to the older one. If the harpoons are changed to dark grey and the white to light grey, I might get it for the pieces, but otherwise it's a definite pass, with no minifigures that I really want. Quote
Fallenangel Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 problem is that a geonosis arena set would be..huge, and little kids don't really want a diorama, they want a ship they can fly around a room. From what I remember, both the 10188 Death Star playset as well as the 8038 Endor playset were fairly large diorama-type sets with large numbers of minifigures, and they seemed to sell pretty well. (I hope we're all aware that you can't pick up the Death Star or the Endor shield bunker and fly it around a room. Yes, there is the small TIE Advanced x1 and the Ewok glider, but I doubt people would pay $100+ for one of those.) And besides, I think with all the new molds such a large set would be a toss to LEGO collectors like many of the people on these forums and probably not aimed at kids who would swallow the new Boba Fett helmet and jetpack without a second thought as to its future value. So a Geonosis arena is very possible. And kids can play with a properly scaled hailfire droid too. (It would be another opportunity for flick-fire missiles that actually look good, as with the 8086 droid tri-fighter.) For August 2011 sets, there's the aforementioned Mace Windu's Jedi starfighter, and then someone keeps bringing up Cloud City. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Don't forget the Mon Cal cruiser. Although it is probable that vehicles are more popular, especially given the fact that all CW sets are currently vehicle-based. Quote

This is where I disagree with you. (I know such a surprise! ) I like it. Though if I get it and don't like it I'll let you know. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 The BARC should look like this: The new one is disproportionate and blocky, and that bar piece used at the nose looks nothing like an air intake. While the older one was also badly sized, at least it was grey. The white color of the new one alone is enough to drive me away. Although I haven't seen the CW episode, so I don't know what color it was there, this looks about as bad as the blue on the Sith Infiltrator and old TIEs to me. Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 (edited) Just search for Battlepacks 2011 on Flickr: Link Finally, just saw the clear prelim pics, thanks for sharing Skafte. The BARC looks pretty decent for a BP vehicle, yeah it might be a bit blocky but this speeder has always been a very tricky one to do, especially the front part since there doesn't exist a decent piece to approximate the front air intake part thingy. But it could always be modded to become more accurate to the real thing. Another thing I observed is the ARF trooper helmet, the 'eye opening' is printed!?!. I would've wanted it to be like the the biker scout trooper helmet with the cut-out eye opening and a black head. Even if I doubt it'll still be changed, I might have to compare this with Arealight's upcoming version. If the latter has the cut-out eye openings, I might have to pass up TLG's ARF. The BARC should look like this: The new one is disproportionate and blocky, and that bar piece used at the nose looks nothing like an air intake. While the older one was also badly sized, at least it was grey. The white color of the new one alone is enough to drive me away. Although I haven't seen the CW episode, so I don't know what color it was there, this looks about as bad as the blue on the Sith Infiltrator and old TIEs to me. It really depends on how you look at it. I view it as white, it just looks grey because off its dirty-white battle-damaged finish. Just compare the white trooper armor with the BARC's color, so it should really be white and not grey. Edited September 28, 2010 by KielDaMan Quote
ThatGuyWithTheBricks Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 (edited) Where is that BARC picture that everyone's talking about? Must have missed it. EDIT: And then I look at the above post. Fail. IMO, it looks pretty horrible. Edited September 28, 2010 by ThatGuyWithTheBricks Quote
prateek Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 I guess we'll just have to wait for a review/official pics to find out more about these controversial BPs... Quote

XimenaPaulina Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 I guess we'll just have to wait for a review/official pics to find out more about these controversial BPs... Yes the leaked pics are still prelims, maybe the prints of the MFs will probably change, but I highly doubt there will hardly be any changes in the final design of the vehicles. I hope I'm wrong, and TLG decides to create an appropriate air intake piece for the BARC, but that's just wishful thinking on my part. Quote
sok117 Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 You guys need to remember that these battlepacks aren't really famous for their awesome builds, mainly just army building. I personally hate the Mando battlepack, I just love the figs, so I'll get like three of them. The Barc speeder looks cool to me, maybe not as a Barc speeder, but as just a speeder it looks cool, so three of those too. Quote

Now that's confusing and funny at the same time. Anyway, I agree with you that BPs are really intended for minifig army building and the vehicles are just add-ons. Quote
prateek Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 At least the speeder matches the rider, whereas the 2009 BP had random green and dk. red Quote
ThatGuyWithTheBricks Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 I'd have expected something more than half-assed for this. Quote

I am not trying to be argumentative but if we shouldn't talk about the pics then where can we talk about them? Quote

I am not trying to be argumentative but if we shouldn't talk about the pics then where can we talk about them? Nah, I think it's ok to talk about the prelims, it's the source of the 90+ pages of this thread anyways. Let's just be all mature in the way we discuss things (tone down a bit on the complaints, always take into account that prelims can change, and definitely no wishful thinking off-topic discussions). Ritz Brick Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 I dont really see whats wrong with the Mando BP, I like all the things included. Its better than just sending in 4 mandos to battle with a pistol each Quote

Its better than just sending in 4 mandos to battle with a pistol each Me neither, it looks good to me. Though I think I'll just get one set of this, a couple max, since I really have no use for an army of blue Mandos. The Clone BP looks certainly will be a fan-favorite among clone army builders, I could easily see myself getting at least four of those. Quote
Bobskink Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Why all this fuzz about the printing on the figs in the BP's? ... I think that they are actually handpainted, very funny. Well, what else is there to talk about? good point, this topic is made for speculation. Quote
DarthSion Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Ah this thread is called pictures and rumours, speculation technically should go under the future sets, i mean there are dozens of sets each year, the only ones that are possible to guess are CW stuff, and even then there is dozens of vehicles and characters to guess from.
