Alywin Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 (edited) For joining our local LUG gathering organized by minifigs.net in Hong Kong, I have made this small Japanese-style grocery. I have spent some effort on the structures and decorative features of the roof especially to make it more Japanese-like. One more thing, the grocery owner actually is a ninja , and so you can see some creepy equipment in the living room on the second floor... More photos at: My Brickshelf All comments are appreciated. Hope you enjoy! Thanks. Edited July 27, 2010 by Alywin Quote
vynsane Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Wow! Nice building! The ornamentation is spectacular all around, with very inventive use of parts, and the interior details are fantastic. I also really like the tree outside - I've wanted to build a LEGO bonsai and there's some inspiration to take from that. Quote
Tycho McKorley Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Great work! I especially like the "creepy" stuff on the second floor. It makes for a nice detail. If I could make a recommendation, I would somehow cover the bottom floor with tiles or plates if I were you. The green makes it seem like the grass continues straight into the grocery store. Otherwise, this MOC is exceptional. Quote
WhiteFang Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 The first thing that came into my mind when I first saw your title of this moc made me thought that it was a "Bleach" related creation. This is truly another terrific creation down there, especially the rooftop and interior. Looking forward to see you and the rest of the Minifigs.net members sharing the layout. Quote

Mmm... well met - I was so entranced by the detailing, I hadn't noticed, but now i agree - tiles or just another (smaller) baseplate in a different color would do wonders there. Quote
Fires-storm Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Well done mate, I love the detailing on the outside of the building, and the inside is superb as well! other then perhaps adding some tiling inside like others have said, I see no problem at all with this beautiful creation! Quote
Sandy Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Heh, I don't think the Japanese build grocery stores inside old temples, but as a building this is fantastic (well, aside from the flooring). You've used many exquisite building techniques, so well done. Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Excellent MOC 'Alywin' - sweet looking store with sliding doors, so cool roof and nice Ninja interior - dude they are a stylish bunch eh ? Fantastic mix of old world and new designs - great work 'Alywin' and I'm a conformist! ! Quote
Fugazi Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Really lovely! Many original and inventive techniques, you captured the architectural style perfectly! Definitely a MOC I can learn from! Quote
BlueBard Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Great job! I see nice and clever techniques here, especially on the roof and windows sections Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Very nice! It's very realistic, much like what you'll expect from an oriental Japanese architecture. The details on the roof are simply amazing. Great job Alywin! But I gree with Tycho, only small nitpick is the interior base plate - put a couple of tiles there and it's all perfect! Quote
Cecilie Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 I love that roof! I'm a big fan of ancient Japanese architecture, and you've really captured that roof in an amazing way Quote
Alywin Posted July 28, 2010 Author Posted July 28, 2010 (edited) Thanks all for the support, and I am happy you guys appreicate the roof and windows structures. For the tiling of the floor, it is indeed a good constructive comment which I would take for future MOC. I was lazy, and generally am not generous using tiles on flooring, because I never have enough tile parts for building other decorative things. Anyway, thanks again! Davey Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Great work here! The detail in the roof is fantastic and really captures that "dojo" feel. I love the little grocery store in the bottom floor. -Davey Quote
