tin7_creations Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 (edited) I'm finally back from vacation! The first batch of minifigs I decided to make after returning is from M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender. The movie SUCKED! However, I really liked MNS' costume designs, adding a more realistic aspect to the characters from the beloved cartoon. In this topic, I will post minifigs from my Last Airbender series; I doubt there will be sequels, but I'm still going to create "M. Night" style characters that were not in the movie. SO first off, I give you Team Avatar: Aang: Katara: Sokka: Zuko: Suki: One of my favorite characters in the cartoon; due to M. Night's stupidity, she was cut from the movie. The creation of this minifig was based entirely upon pre-released promotional material. It turned out better than I thought! Toph: The Toph minifig is my own interpretation of what the character would look like in M. Night's adaption. The "human" character in the corner is just a cosplay girl, and I put her in shadow to represent the character is 'yet to be revealed'. The decals are all my own design! Plus, everything that doesn't look like LEGO is Sculpey! I will continue adding to this topic, so check back often! Cheers! ~tin7 P.S. The next batch of characters will be Ty Lee, Admiral Zhao, Jet, and Long Feng. I'll post them when I post them! (Hopefully before school starts again in September...) Updates: August 15, 2010: Uncle Iroh, Fire Lord Ozai, Mai and Azula Edited August 15, 2010 by tin7 Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 (edited) Wow, amazing customs as usual tin7! I love the high accuracy of your figs with the real characters. I think you pretty much nailed the overall design (face details, torso/leg prints, hairpieces, accessories) of each MF perfectly. Even some of the sculpeys doesn't look like sculpey as they blend seamlessly with lego. And the presentation is very professional-looking as always. Job well-done Sir! badboytje88 Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Great figs! You've outdone yourself again. Toph looks a little bit too happy if you ask me. Quote
LuxorV Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Amazing job on these figures, tin7! Thanks for sharing Quote
Batbrick Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Amazing stuff tin7, I can't fault a single one. Katara is my favourite alongside Suki, you could have messed up the hair so badly, but it comes across wonderfully. Excellent fig adaptations of a terrible movie! Batbrick Away! Quote
WhiteFang Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 For a minute, I thought these were official minifigs. Very nicely customised. I like the hairpiece of Katara. Quote
Bundalings Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Except for Toph having full breasts when she's... what, 11? 12? These minifigs are very cool. I too liked a lot of the designs in the movie despite how awful it was overall. Quote
OneSnowTrooper Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Like WhiteFang I thought that it was made by Lego when I saw the MF on the frontpage. Good job! Quote
Aanchir Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Brilliant job! These look very official, and I love the detail! On a side note, M. Night expressed in several interviews early on how the Kyoshi Warriors were one thing he certainly wanted to avoid cutting. So I imagine he had to be persuaded to cut them. Even after the movie's release, he explained that although there would be deleted scenes in the DVD version, he would ''not'' include the Kyoshi Warrior scene, on the grounds that he was dead-set on including them in the sequel and wanted them to still be "new" in that scene. Beyond that, I've read the novelization (which included the Kyoshi Warrior scene), and it didn't contribute all that much to the story. I'm sure they could be worked in as well or better in the second film (if that actually gets made). But anyway, great work! I'd love to see other angles so I can really get a good feel for the hair pieces-- for instance, Sokka's ponytail. Quote
Frostbite Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 The costume design was good, but Katara and Sokka should have a darker skin. Quote

You've outdone yourself again. Toph looks a little bit too happy if you ask me. Well, she does snicker quite a bit in the cartoon, especially in Season 3... For a minute, I thought these were official minifigs. Very nicely customised. I like the hairpiece of Katara. It's always wonderful to hear when people can't differentiate my customs from LEGO; that's like the biggest compliment! Thanks! Except for Toph having full breasts when she's... what, 11? 12? These minifigs are very cool. I too liked a lot of the designs in the movie despite how awful it was overall. I thought of that too when I created the decal. The thing is though, 'age' really wasn't a factor in M. Night's casting choices, I just assumed he would cast someone who is 13-15 to play a 12-year-old, so I gave her some slight curves in the design. Brilliant job! These look very official, and I love the detail! On a side note, M. Night expressed in several interviews early on how the Kyoshi Warriors were one thing he certainly wanted to avoid cutting. I'll fix that in an update! Quote
Zenox Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 No Toph in the movie? Not gonna watch it. I like your decals, though. Quote
Flare Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Great work! These could possibly be some the of the best customs I've ever seen... keep it up! Quote
Princess Muttonchops Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Awesome customs tin7, although you have simultaneously killed any interest I may have had in seeing the movie, the people they got to play the characters look wrong wrong wrong. Quote
Tycho McKorley Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 These are really a lot of fun. I wasn't a fan of the movie, but I loved the cartoon series (Does that make me an AFOA- Adult Fan of Avatar?). Even though you based these off of the movie characters, I still think you've done a great job capturing the look and feel of them. Excellent work. Quote
user Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Great work! Those custom pieces blend with lego perfectly and so do the decals they look very nice. Sokka's face could be a little less creepy but the rest look great! I especially like Zuko. Quote
1st Lieutenant Jed Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Great minifigs. The movie sucked SO HARD, though he is going to make two more, for the other two seasons, or "books" of the show. Anyone Remember in the beginning of the movie, where it said, "Book 1: Water"? The other two are gonna be Book 2: Earth (with Toph in it) and Book 3: Fire. Quote
Wout Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 What a magnificant minifigs! When will TLC hire you for new Avatar sets? Quote
Aanchir Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 No Toph in the movie? Not gonna watch it. I like your decals, though. That's because the movie's based on Book 1. Toph didn't debut until Book 2. Quote
Sirius Black Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Awesome work! My only question is why did you choose Marion Ravenwood's face for Katara? Quote
Strand Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 Love the figures! However more hair loopies on Katara would have been nice. Is there a reason why you didn't use the short one-piece leg for Aang and Toph (the stumpy characters)? Quote
blksuperman2 Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 Man, all of these are awesome. Do you sell these? I'd pick up all of these w/ the quickest. Especially Toph. She's the best character. Quote
