Ak-47 Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Just wondering, maybe as a little social experiment none of the mods log in all day? I don't know how much deleting/other stuff they actually do (not trying to offend!), but it'd be interesting to see! I bet it would really show how much they keep this communtity together, and make us appreciate them even more! Quote
prateek Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 (edited) You'll be surprised at how much crap goes on in a span of 24 hours. No offence, but this is a bad idea. BTW, how are you able to make polls? Edited August 8, 2010 by prateek Quote
Ak-47 Posted August 8, 2010 Author Posted August 8, 2010 I honestly don't see why this is a terrible idea, I think we need a moderator/admin to tell us how much goes on. If it's to much, then we'll just let this idea go. BTW, i used the little button that says "create poll". Quote
The Legonater Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 A, bad idea. A lot of stuff can go wrong in one day. B, they'd still be able to come back the next day and fix the stuff from the earlier day. So there's really no point Quote
Ak-47 Posted August 8, 2010 Author Posted August 8, 2010 The point is that we'd see what they prevent and appreciate them more, no one really knows what they deal with or anything. And, they'd have to not give us the date so no one would plan an attack on the site Quote
Siegfried Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 B, they'd still be able to come back the next day and fix the stuff from the earlier day. So there's really no point Exactly. Also, planning this would just encourage stupidity giving us more work and possibly even resulting in several bans. As things happen I'm sure there's been a few times this has almost happened anyway; often I've been busy for a few days and I come back to find others have been too! Normally though someone turns up and puts in extra time to clean things up. Run the poll all you want, but I give this a zero chance of it actually happening. True the world won't come to an end, but I just don't see the point in it. I'm cool with not being appreciated. BTW, i used the little button that says "create poll". Which, as a moderator, I should tell you that you're abusing a power given to you as being part of the Reviewers Academy. Quote
Emperor Claudius Rome Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Yeah, this is a bad idea. I don't want to log onto EB and see it plagued by Spammers advertising cheap Viagra Quote
Ak-47 Posted August 8, 2010 Author Posted August 8, 2010 Which, as a moderator, I should tell you that you're abusing a power given to you as being part of the Reviewers Academy. Oh my, quite sorry about that. I never did much in it, just looked at the guides for taking pictures, editing mocs, etc. I thought I remembered something about being able to do it after 500 posts, but I figured the rule could've changed do to growing members, etc. Quote
Dutch Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Staff free for a day. I would love to see this happen and the chaos that would ensue the next day. Quote
Princess Muttonchops Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 "Human sacrifice, cats and dogs living together, mass hysteria!" Seriously, no moderators, are you completely insane?? It's a thin, wavering line we tread friends, balancing precariously between order and chaos, with only our team of fun-loving, generous, dedicated, good-looking moderators to pull us back from the brink. Moderator-free day? Nay, we should have "Moderator appreciation day", where EB members can post MOCs dedicated to their favourite moderator, or write flowery poems about their valiant, swash-buckling efforts. Sorry, I have to go now, and pull my self together...sniff... Quote
Dragonator Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Nay, we should have "Moderator appreciation day", where EB members can post MOCs dedicated to their favourite moderator, or write flowery poems about their valiant, swash-buckling efforts. Now there's a proposition I could support! Quote
escortmad79 Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Poor idea, the site will turn into a spam fest & then the mods will have to do twice as much work the following day! Having moderated on a number of sites in the past, I can tell you it's sometimes a nightmare to keep up with stuff being posted. A site this size takes a lot of moderation. Quote
Paul B Technic Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 As an admin on another forum I think this is a very bad idea, much like the police having a day off to see how much crime happens :( Paul Quote
legotrainfan Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 I can only say NO to this idea. I'm also among those who don't want to see this forum being flooded with stupid, redundant, offensive, etc. posts. I really appreciate the work of the moderators, who are watchful and take care that this wonderful forum won't become something terrible. Quote
Wout Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 In earlier years there were also spammers or annoying members who created stupid threads or posts, which I didn't appreciated. So I'm very happy with the 10-12 moderators we have. The Moderator appreciaton day would be a fun idea, although I hope some moderators who get less poems and mocs are not gonna be jealous. Oh, And Siegfried I still appreciate you. Quote
Munkay Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Well one things for sure. If this did ever happen, you'd find out real quick just how many "kids" really are on this forum. Personally, i don't care. It won't affect me one bit as I wouldn't post any different than I already do. Quote
Sisco Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 No. Bad idea. Seriously, I know how important and good our Mods are, so I appreciate them enough without having to get rid of them for a day. Quote
Scouty Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 I think we all agree on disagreeing on this idea. So is this thread needed anymore? Unless we turn this thread into "Planning for Moderator Appreciation day" hehe Don't forget the Fellows who also put their time to help clean up the Community and Cultural forums Quote

ThatGuyWithTheBricks Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 This isn't that bad of an idea people! However, I would not announce it, otherwise people would abuse their freedom. If the mods did this and didn't tell anyone, I'm sure the day would be practically normal. Quote

If the mods did this and didn't tell anyone, I'm sure the day would be practically normal. I don't quite think you understand just how much crap they deal with on a daily basis without us knowing. I'm not trying to bash the supporters in any way, as I think ideas like this should come up in a forum as open as this one, but I personally don't think the idea is very good. Quote

Unless we turn this thread into "Planning for Moderator Appreciation day" hehe Don't forget the Fellows who also put their time to help clean up the Community and Cultural forums Hmmm, How about a moderator apppreciation fortnight? One day for each moderator/admin. Knowing my luck there are 15 moderators at the time of writing this. As for no moderator day, well you do like the site the way it is do you? Quote
vexorian Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Well, a better experiment would be to have the no mod day but without telling anyone about it. My bet is that the final body count in that case would be a couple threads in the wrong forum. Quote
